Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 73: I Won’t Want the Child You Bear
He accompanied another woman for a pregnancy check-up, and yet he had the audacity to question her?
Vera Yves laughed sarcastically, "What does it have to do with you?"
Winston Valentine grabbed her hand and forcefully took the paper, "You’re pregnant?"
Vera Yves remained calm, "This isn’t mine."
Winston Valentine looked at her coldly, "I’m not an idiot!"
Vera Yves’ face turned somewhat pale.
"Or do you want me to take you back in to find a doctor to confirm it?"
Noticing the gazes of people around them, Vera Yves calmly put away the paper; at this point, it’s impossible to hide anymore.
Vera Yves wanted to leave, but Winston Valentine grabbed her wrist. Vera Yves tried to break free without success.
Cecilia Vaughn saw Winston Valentine’s angry expression and curled her lips slightly, though her face was pitifully sad, "Winston, where are you going?"
"Go wait for me in the car."
Winston Valentine dragged Vera Yves to a quiet corner.
Vera Yves pulled her hand back and angrily looked at him, "Winston Valentine, what exactly do you want to do?"
"I should be the one asking you that."
Winston Valentine’s face darkened, "You had the backbone to demand a divorce recently, and now you’re pregnant and don’t want to tell me. What are you trying to do?"
Vera Yves wanted to speak but didn’t know what to say; she couldn’t possibly tell him she actually wanted to hide the pregnancy and quietly have the child, right?
Seeing her purse her lips without speaking, Winston Valentine’s expression grew even gloomier, "When did I ever allow you to have my child?"
He stepped forward, asking word by word, "Are you worthy?"
Though she had imagined this scenario, actually hearing these words from him stung deeply.
"I am your legal wife; why wouldn’t I be worthy?" Vera Yves gazed at him with red-rimmed eyes, "If anyone isn’t worthy, it should be Cecilia Vaughn!"
"Shut up!"
Vera Yves forced back her tears; crying at this moment would be humiliating.
Her voice was cold, "This child was an accident, but I want to keep him; besides the child, I can give up everything else!"
"Give up everything else? Do you think I would believe that?" Winston Valentine looked at her icily, "I don’t want, years from now, your mother bringing the child to the Valentine Family, making a scene for a claim to Valentine Group’s inheritance!"
Vera Yves’ face grew increasingly pale, "I can sign an agreement with you!"
"Enough! Stop pretending!" Winston Valentine was visibly impatient, "Vera Yves, tricking me once was my carelessness; if I let you trick me again, that would be stupidity!"
Why was he still acting so superior?
Vera Yves looked at him, feeling as if he was completely unfamiliar to her.
"After all these years of marriage, how have I wronged you? Now you’ve cheated and have a child with another woman, and don’t you feel even a slight remorse for me?"
"If you want, I can say sorry to you."
Winston Valentine laughed mockingly, "Out of the goodness of my heart, I’ll have a moment of conscience; you wanted a divorce, right? I’m not interested in playing these silly games with you anymore. As long as you abort this child, I’ll sign the divorce papers!"
Was this marriage just a game to him?
Winston Valentine sneered coldly, "What, can’t bear to? Afraid you’ll end up with nothing?"
"Slap!"
Vera Yves’ hand trembled as she looked at him angrily, "Winston Valentine, it is my child and has nothing to do with you! You have no right to decide its life or death!"
Winston Valentine touched his cheek and grabbed Vera Yves’ wrist, sneering, "Without me, could you even conceive a child?"
Vera Yves’ chest heaved with anger.
"One moment you want a divorce, the next you desperately want to keep my child." Winston Valentine looked into her eyes, "Have you fallen in love with me?"
Warmth surged in Vera Yves’ eyes.
Her first kiss was with him, her first hand-hold was with him, and he was the one who turned her from a girl into a woman.
Everything about love for her was an innocent crush on Miles Monroe and a longing for a life with him.
"Winston Valentine, what about you is worth loving?" Vera Yves looked at him and laughed lightly, her gaze filled with sarcasm, "Are you worthy?"
"If I’m not worthy, then obediently abort the child and free up the position of Mrs. Valentine." Winston Valentine didn’t dare meet her eyes anymore, releasing her, his voice cold, "After all, once Cecilia Vaughn’s belly grows big, the wedding dress won’t look good."
Her heart was clogged with discomfort; she realized all her efforts were for another woman, something he could easily agree to.
Vera Yves clenched her fists tightly, "If Old Mrs. Valentine knew I was pregnant, she would surely be happy."
Winston Valentine sneered, "Guess if I tell her you once pretended to be pregnant, would she still be happy?"
Vera Yves looked at him angrily.
"Don’t be stupid; whether or not you’re Mrs. Valentine, I don’t want a child from you."
One sentence plunged Vera Yves into an icy pit.
"Turning something simple into something complicated is bad for everyone, don’t you think? I’ll arrange the surgery for you." Winston Valentine turned his back to her, his voice icy, "Once you abort the child, I’ll fulfill your wish and sign the divorce papers."
His tone was so casual it seemed unreal; regarding this child, he had no expectation, only extreme disdain.
Listening to the man’s footsteps fading away, Vera Yves felt as if all her strength had left her.
A deep sense of powerlessness rose in her heart; it was her child, yet she had no right to decide its fate! What right did Winston Valentine have to treat her this way?
Vera Yves left the outpatient hall; outside, the snow was already falling heavily.
She saw Cecilia Vaughn get out of the car to meet Winston Valentine; Winston took her arm, said something, and Cecilia Vaughn laughed affectionately and got into the car.
Then Winston Valentine got in, and the car slowly started.
Vera Yves thought of the intimate things he once did with her in the car, and her stomach churned. She rushed to the trash can and dry-heaved.
Winston Valentine watched her in the rearview mirror as she seemed likely to be blown over by the wind at any moment, and only after her figure disappeared did he finally look away.
Cecilia Vaughn gazed at him with a cautious demeanor, "Winston, would you blame me? I know I shouldn’t have been so impulsive that night; I also know about the child..."
Winston Valentine closed his eyes, "Don’t worry, I’ll take responsibility."
Upon hearing this, Cecilia Vaughn finally felt at ease, "Is Vera Yves really pregnant? Will you divorce her?"
Winston Valentine didn’t answer her question, instead instructing the driver to head back to the old residence.
Cecilia Vaughn clung to his arm, acting coyly, "Winston, I don’t want to be apart from you."
Winston Valentine removed her hand, his voice cold, "I have things to attend to, you go back to the old residence first."
After Vera Yves left the hospital, she went to the clinic.
She tirelessly copied materials, but her mind couldn’t help but wander.
Back when Winston Valentine agreed to marry her, Old Mrs. Valentine feared delays and had them get the marriage certificate the next day, spending ten days preparing for the wedding.
Although the wedding was rushed, it was still grand and solemn.
Every woman dreams of her wedding; Vera Yves was no exception. Everything about the wedding was perfect, except for the man who seemed to be there only as a formality.
He actually worried about Cecilia Vaughn looking bad in a wedding dress with a big belly, yet at their wedding, he didn’t even bother to give her a glance.
Vera Yves returned to the villa and went to the walk-in closet, rearranging things once again.
The next morning she was awakened by noisy sounds downstairs.
Vera Yves went downstairs and found Cecilia Vaughn in the living room.
