Chapter 160: Chapter 160: A Match Made in Heaven

"What, does it only count as cheating if you’ve slept together?" Vera Yves tried to push his hand away.

Winston Valentine refused to let go, "Then we’re even."

Who was even with him?

"How are we even?" Vera Yves sneered, "Why don’t you get pregnant too, have an abortion once, and taste that heart-wrenching pain?"

Winston Valentine’s eyes dimmed a little, and he finally let go.

Noticing the curious stares around her, Vera Yves intended to leave the ballroom, but she had only taken a few steps when someone came over to greet her.

Good manners forced Vera Yves to muster a smile and respond politely. As the party ended, Mr. and Mrs. Bert specifically came over to say goodbye to her.

"Mrs. Valentine, tonight was truly a perfect soirée. Thank you for the hospitality from you and Mr. Valentine."

Many people turned their gaze upon hearing "Mrs. Valentine."

Vera Yves politely explained, "I’ve already divorced him."

Mrs. Bert chuckled, "Mrs. Valentine, you’re so humorous."

Vera Yves: ...

As the others left, they also smiled and greeted Vera Yves, treating her as the hostess of the party.

Vera Yves looked at the man responsible for all this, "Is this fun for you?"

Winston Valentine looked at her flushed face, restraining the urge to pinch it, "It’s just that we fit so well together, naturally meant to be a pair."

Vera Yves resisted the urge to throw her drink in his face and left, lifting her skirt.

Winston Valentine followed, "I’ll take you home."

Vera Yves did not refuse; she certainly didn’t want to be out on the streets in the cold wind at night.

Almost as soon as she stepped inside the clinic, Hannah Hayes called, "Vera, are you getting remarried to Winston Valentine?"

Vera Yves felt a headache coming, "No."

"Then why did Aunt Warren say that Old Warren saw you attending the Valentine Group’s party with Winston Valentine tonight, arm in arm, looking very close?"

When did she ever walk arm in arm with Winston Valentine?

"No, I was just helping him with something."

"What help does someone like him need from you? He’s just finding an excuse to get close to you," Hannah Hayes snorted, "Now Aunt Warren doesn’t want to introduce you to any other excellent young men, afraid of offending Winston Valentine."

Seeing Hannah Hayes start talking about matchmaking again, Vera Yves hung up the phone.

Early the next morning, Linda Young called her again, "Vera, are you really getting remarried to Winston Valentine?"

"Why are you asking this?"

"I was shooting photos for a young star today, and her stylist said that you and Winston Valentine wore matching outfits, glued together like two peas in a pod." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

She hadn’t even noticed which outfit Winston Valentine had worn, how could they be glued together?

"I never intended to remarry him; it’s all a misunderstanding."

"I doubt it; he’s probably just parading you around to assert his ownership," Linda Young said disdainfully, "Who in Imperia would dare compete with Winston Valentine for a woman?"

Vera Yves suddenly realized, how could she forget that a man like Winston Valentine would go to any lengths to get what he wanted?

Vera Yves bought fruits and supplements and headed to the hospital.

On the VIP floor, the nurse’s station asked her to provide information and then called the ward before letting her through.

Vera Yves hadn’t walked far with the items when Matthew Monroe’s voice sounded behind her.

"Hey, isn’t this the woman Miles Monroe rejected? Coming here to fawn over my grandpa, hoping to be dumped again?"

Vera Yves couldn’t be bothered to deal with him.

Matthew Monroe persisted, "Aren’t you going to remarry Winston Valentine? You can’t let go of either, wanting them both?"

"Matthew Monroe." Vera Yves finally turned to look at him, "Is holding a grudge for years over a rejected confession really necessary?"

Matthew Monroe’s expression turned sour for a moment, then he sneered, "Vera Yves, you really think you’re something."

Vera Yves maintained a cold demeanor, "It’s you who thinks I’m something. Proving my refusal back then was absolutely the right choice."

"Vera Yves, why are you pretending to be so aloof?" Matthew Monroe looked at her disdainfully, "You’ve licked Miles Monroe’s boots for years, only to be dumped by him. Dumped, yet crawling back. Aren’t you shameless?"

Vera Yves clenched her hands around her items, her voice still cold, "I don’t intend to cling to anyone. Don’t act like a mad dog biting everyone indiscriminately."

Vera Yves continued forward, soon seeing Miles Monroe at the doorway of the ward.

Matthew Monroe evidently saw Miles Monroe too, unsure how long he’d been listening, his expression slightly embarrassed.

Miles Monroe’s gaze fell on Vera Yves, speaking softly, "Come in, Grandpa’s been waiting for you for a long time."

Vera Yves nodded and walked past him.

Matthew Monroe also tried to enter, but Miles Monroe held his shoulder, "Let’s talk."

Zoe Monroe saw Vera Yves come in and immediately greeted her, lowering her voice, "My cousin came early, but Grandpa refused to let him in. Did you see him outside?"

"Yes."

Old Master Monroe extended his hand to Vera Yves, "Vera, you finally agreed to see Grandpa."

Vera Yves approached and held Old Master Monroe’s hand, "Grandpa Monroe, you’re still not fully recovered; don’t overexert yourself, alright?"

Old Master Monroe casually replied, "That rotten kid intentionally wants to infuriate me into dying, so why not give him what he wants?"

Vera Yves gently advised, "Grandpa Monroe, there’s a reason behind everything, don’t be too angry at him."

"And what about you, Vera? Are you still angry at him?"

Vera Yves looked at the hopeful gaze in Old Master Monroe’s eyes, whispered, "It’s all in the past now; being angry won’t matter anymore."

"Vera, I know this hurt you deeply and Grandpa doesn’t know how to defend him. But can you promise Grandpa that you won’t break contact with him because of all this?"

Vera Yves smiled, "As long as you eat well and cooperate with your treatment, I won’t."

Old Master Monroe relaxed upon seeing the smile on her face.

Zoe Monroe quietly asked, "Grandpa, can you eat now?"

It was only then that Old Master Monroe reluctantly nodded, though he wasn’t very hungry and only forced down a few bites.

Just as Miles Monroe entered the ward, Old Master Monroe threw the bowl of porridge his way, "Get out!"

Miles Monroe didn’t dodge; he took the hit, the bowl crashing against his shoulder, porridge rolling down his jacket before dripping onto the floor.

Miles Monroe crouched down, picked up the bowl, walked to the bedside, placed it on the bedside table, and grabbed a few tissues to wipe the stains off himself.

Old Master Monroe grabbed the cane to greet him, "Can’t you understand human language? You deliberately want to infuriate me, don’t you?"

He struck him seven or eight times, Miles Monroe didn’t evade, and Vera Yves instinctively stopped Old Master Monroe, "Grandpa Monroe, anger hurts the body. Stop hitting."

Miles Monroe said softly, "Vera, don’t stop him. I really deserve a beating; let Grandpa hit me to vent his anger."

Old Master Monroe directly handed the cane to Vera Yves, "Vera, you do it; hit him however it relieves your anger!"

Vera Yves felt a little helpless, placing the cane aside, "Grandpa Monroe, please get some rest. I’ll visit you again another day."

Vera Yves stood up, and Miles Monroe followed behind her, "I’ll take you downstairs."

"No need."

Miles Monroe continued to follow her out of the ward.

Zoe Monroe watched their retreating figures, touching her chin, "Grandpa, will this move work?"

"If, after all this, he still can’t win Vera back, then I truly don’t have him as a grandson anymore!"

Matthew Monroe pushed open the ward door and entered.

Zoe Monroe looked at him in shock, his face bruised, "Did someone catch you cheating, and her husband hit you?"

Matthew Monroe shot her a glare. Seeing him, Old Master Monroe lay back down, "You get out too, there’s not a single one of you who doesn’t make me worry!"

Miles Monroe followed Vera Yves and was just about to say something when someone called him from afar, "Miles."

Vera Yves looked over and saw Jane Shea standing at the nurse’s station registering.
