Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Willingly Foolish

"Winston Valentine?" Vera Yves looked at him in disbelief, "What are you doing here?"

"I’m outside my own house, is there a problem?" Winston Valentine walked straight to her side, "Have you forgotten that when we divorced and divided property, you left me the house next door."

Vera’s mind went blank, "Are you planning to move in?"

Winston said expressionlessly, "Depends on my mood."

"I’ll move out tomorrow!"

Winston held her wrist, "Running away as soon as you see me, am I that scary?"

Vera looked sincere, "You’re not scary, you’re disgusting!"

Winston was silent for a moment, "I’m not living here; someone wants to rent it, so I came to take a look."

"Since when do such trivial matters warrant your personal attention?"

"Vera, don’t act like a hedgehog every time you see me." Winston moved a little closer, "You make me mistakenly think you still care about me."

"I do care about you, care that you’re polluting the air around me."

After finishing her words, Vera wanted to go inside, but Winston continued, "I know you really like Miles Monroe, but having been divorced once, you should use your brain a bit."

Vera looked at him with irritation, "Who are you saying is brainless?"

"Haven’t you read the news? Even being with you, he’s still tangled up with his ex-girlfriend."

"What’s it to you?"

"It’s indeed none of my concern, I’m just curious." Winston looked into her eyes, "Do you tolerate the one you love more, allowing him to two-time you while you turn a blind eye?"

"I trust Miles." Vera said firmly, "He would never treat me like that!"

"Don’t speak too soon."

Winston lowered his voice, "Do you really think the incident with the knockoff dress was just the stylist’s fault?"

Vera looked at him in surprise, "What do you mean?"

"Why don’t you ask Miles, see if he knows about Jane Shea’s tricks behind the scenes."

Vera forced herself to calm down, "Winston, what good does it do you to sow discord between us?"

"No good, just can’t stand seeing you act foolish."

Vera unlocked the door and laughed, "Even if it’s foolish on his part, I’m willing!"

"Bang!"

The door was slammed shut by Vera.

Winston looked at the tightly closed door, his calm demeanor vanished, could she really like him that much? What makes Miles Monroe so special?

In the following days, Vera kept a watchful eye and didn’t see Winston again. Occasionally, there were noises from next door, but she never saw the new neighbor.

On the weekend, Miles Monroe accompanied her to The Yves Villa.

Hannah Hayes had already prepared plenty of ingredients. Seeing the two of them enter, she couldn’t stop smiling, "Miles, come on in, you didn’t have to bring so many things!"

"Aunt Hayes, my mom often uses this brand’s scarves, hope you like it."

"I like it! Whatever you buy, I like it!"

He brought a dozen gifts of varying sizes. Mark Yves came downstairs with messy hair and greeted Miles, "Hey, Miles!"

Hannah looked at him disapprovingly, "Sleeping till noon on weekends! Go get changed!"

Mark shrugged, "Miles isn’t an outsider."

Hannah smacked him lightly, frustrated.

Mark winced in pain, "Miles, what brings you to our place?"

Mark looked over and saw Vera hand in hand with Miles, "Vera, you’re the one Miles is hugging?"

"Call me sis, don’t be rude."

Vera released Miles’s hand, "Mom, I’ll help you with lunch."

Mother and daughter entered the kitchen.

"I knew it, you two must be together."

"Mom, we’re just starting to date, didn’t want you to know because..."

"What, afraid I’d object?"

As if you would object! You’d grab a megaphone and announce it to the world!

"Miles is good, but he did elope with someone." Hannah spoke earnestly, "Although it’s all in the past, his infamous ex is quite unnerving."

Vera was somewhat surprised.

Hannah lowered her voice, "I know you are young and impulsive, but make sure to take precautions. Do not get pregnant before marriage."

"Mom!" Vera was slightly embarrassed.

"It’s for your own good! If you get pregnant and then marry, gossip will be terrible!"

"I told you, we’re just starting to date."

Hannah was puzzled, "What, you are only holding hands in this relationship? Make plans! At your age, should you date for years? He might not be in a hurry, but you? You’ll be twenty-eight by New Year’s! Just get married!"

What marriage? Vera felt she couldn’t communicate with her.

"I understand Miles. If he doesn’t want to marry you, he wouldn’t date you." Hannah said affectionately, "I trust his character."

Vera never thought about marrying Miles. Though they were dating, their relationship was almost the same as before; they hadn’t even kissed.

Why talk about marriage now?

At the dinner table, Miles and Harry Yves chatted about business. Harry asked with a smile, "When do you plan to join the company?"

"I want to wait a few more years," Miles replied with a smile, "My dad is still healthy, and honestly, I’m not suited for business."

"You’ve excelled in everything since childhood, how can you not be suited for business?" Harry said, then glanced at Mark disparagingly, "Unlike my son, who is hopeless!"

Mark suddenly lost his appetite.

After lunch, Miles and Vera went upstairs to her bedroom.

Miles walked to the desk, smiling, "Remember when I used to tutor you here?"

Vera sat on the bed, recalling distant memories, "Actually, I did it on purpose."

"What?"

"Pretending I couldn’t score perfect in math, deliberately marking wrong answers to get just sixty."

Miles was surprised, "You were so young then."

Vera smiled, "Didn’t know what liking was, but knew I wanted to see you every day. Scoring sixty was my chance."

Miles gazed at her tenderly, "Vera..."

Vera stood up and pressed her finger to his lips, "Don’t apologize. It was my own business after all."

In the afternoon, they left The Yves Villa. Miles received a call from Penelope Langley and returned to The Monroe Family.

Vera went back to her apartment alone. As she reached downstairs, she saw a crowd and a cordon.

People were discussing.

"I saw a lot of blood just now, don’t know whose it was!"

"What floor?"

"Heard it was the thirteenth floor."

Vera anxiously asked, "Ma’am, what happened? Are you sure it’s the thirteenth floor?"

She lived on the thirteenth floor, and she wasn’t home, meaning it had to be the new neighbor.

"Seems like a home invasion turned into a fight!"
