Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 119: You’re Just Pitying Her
Miles Monroe looked at her calmly, "I don’t owe you anything."
"Miles, from twenty to thirty, I gave you the best ten years of my life. What makes you think you don’t owe me anything?"
Looking at the familiar yet strange face before him, Miles felt a deep sense of helplessness inside.
"The day we parted, I told you, I’m not someone who looks back."
"Then why can you be with Vera Yves?"
Even if he had found a woman of equal status, she wouldn’t feel this panicked, but that person was Vera.
She would never forget that sunny afternoon when she had just joined the club, and everyone was discussing the upcoming welcome party.
A girl in a high school uniform with a ponytail appeared at the club’s entrance.
The girl looked around sixteen or seventeen years old.
The plain blue school uniform seemed somewhat loose on her, but as she stood there, it was as if the whole world lit up.
She smiled and looked over, "Miles, Grandpa made snow pear soup, and asked me to bring you some."
Seeing her, Miles immediately smiled, walked over, and affectionately ruffled her hair, "Is it hot?"
The girl nodded, her beautiful eyes looking at him as if they could sparkle.
With a hint of teasing in her voice, she said, "I’m almost dying from the heat!"
Miles took the thermos, brought her into the club, and wiped the sweat from her cheeks with a tissue, "Is it cooler now?"
She smiled and nodded.
Miles introduced her to everyone, saying she was his neighbor’s little sister, and she sweetly greeted everyone.
At that moment, she knew Vera liked Miles, but Vera was too young, and Miles instinctively pampered her without any romantic thoughts.
"Jane Shea, being with Vera was a decision I’ve thought through, not looking back, but a timely encounter."
A timely encounter?
"What timely encounter?" Jane suddenly felt angry, "Don’t I know you? You just feel sorry for her after her divorce, being ostracized by society, so you pity her. You even think if it weren’t for going abroad with me, she wouldn’t have ended up like this!"
Miles’s expression cooled slightly, "Vera doesn’t need my pity."
Jane shook her head, "She doesn’t need it, but you have an excessive sense of compassion! You always like to sympathize with the weak, Miles, you don’t really like her! You’re just pitying her!"
Just like you pitied me before, now you pity Vera.
"If thinking this way makes you feel better, I have nothing to say." Miles appeared weary, "I’ll help you recommend a lawyer."
"I just want you!" Jane steadied her emotions, took the sunglasses beside her, and put them back on, "If it’s not you, I’d rather not fight this lawsuit, even if it means losing everything, I have nothing to lose anyway."
"Jane! Don’t joke with your future!"
"Haven’t you always thought, in my eyes, you’re less important than my career?" Jane laughed, "Let me prove it to you once, isn’t that good?"
...
Vera Yves packed her things, and Hannah Hayes’s call came in, complaining for a long while.
Vera hadn’t expected Hannah to really arrange a blind date party, and after hanging up, she checked the call record, seeing a missed call from an unfamiliar number, showing a connection lasting over twenty seconds.
Thinking of Rae Rhodes, she might have answered it for her, but why didn’t she inform her?
The next morning, Vera arrived at The Valentine Family as scheduled, and Stella Valentine naturally went upstairs with her. Old Mrs. Valentine looked much better, and Stella diligently sat by the bed, offering to feed her medicine.
Old Mrs. Valentine shook her head, "Let your aunt-in-law do it instead."
Stella reluctantly handed the medicine bowl to Samantha Warren, who carefully helped her take the medicine, brought water to rinse her mouth, and wiped her lips.
Watching her diligent manner, Stella pouted, truly a faker! Acting all day, thinking her precious daughter can marry into the family?
Vera gave Old Mrs. Valentine another acupuncture session.
Old Mrs. Valentine’s spirits lifted considerably, holding Vera’s hand without letting go, "Vera, Grandma knew it, you’re just as skilled as your grandpa."
Vera shook her head, "If I could be even half as skilled as Grandpa, I’d be satisfied."
When she first went to university, Grandpa had her focus on pharmacology, leaning more towards drug development.
Suddenly, there was a commotion downstairs.
"Big brother, don’t hit him!" Cecilia Vaughn’s voice came through.
A servant hurried in, whispering something to Samantha Warren, who quickly headed out.
"Winston Valentine, do you think we have nobody in our family? I want you to give me a clear answer today, are you marrying her or not?"
Winston’s mouth was bleeding lightly, and he sneered, "You called me back just to say this?"
"Brother, Winston just got out of the hospital, please don’t hit him!" Cecilia stepped forward trying to intervene but was pushed away by Warren Valentine, stumbling a few steps before being caught by Samantha.
"Warren, let him go first, your grandma’s only just getting better! What’s this fuss?"
Warren’s face darkened, "Both of you are shielding him! Because you shield him, he dares to keep dragging it out! Now everyone in Imperia knows my sister is someone’s mistress! You might not feel ashamed, but I do!"
Cecilia looked awkward.
Samantha’s face turned red with anger, "Warren, even if others say it, how can you say that about your own sister?"
"If she dares to do it, why can’t she handle being talked about?"
Winston simply watched coldly, "You’ve been CEO for a few days and think you’re the head of the family?"
"Better than you, a mama’s boy!"
"Bang!" Winston swung a punch.
Warren staggered back, wiping blood from his mouth, sneering, "You don’t like to hear the truth? If you ask me, you should take your mother’s surname, or at least your stepdad’s president’s surname!"
"Bang!" Winston kicked Warren to the ground.
Warren was momentarily stunned by the kick, unable to fight back.
"Bang!" "Bang!" "Bang!"
Winston repeatedly punched him in the face until Cecilia rushed over, crying "Stop," trying to hold him back.
Winston was in a rage, unable to hear her voice.
Until Vera came downstairs.
"Winston, are you planning to kill him and go straight to jail?"
Winston finally stopped, rolling away.
Vera entered the living room, "The old lady is out of danger, for now, she needs a prescription every three days. I will adjust her medication based on her condition."
After speaking, Vera walked out.
Winston instinctively wanted to chase after her, but Cecilia called to him, bringing him back to his senses.
Winston turned and went upstairs to Old Mrs. Valentine’s room.
Old Mrs. Valentine noticed the shadow under his eyes, "What is it, finally with the one you love, yet not happy?"
Winston sat by her bed, holding her hand.
Old Mrs. Valentine sighed, "I can tell, Vera is truly done with you."
"Grandma truly is getting old. After escaping from death’s door, I have come to understand many things. If you genuinely like her, then marry her. Just keep the wedding low-key."
After thinking for a moment, she added, "After you’re married, just stay away from me, so I don’t get annoyed."
Winston buried his face in her hand, "Grandma, I regret it."
