Chapter 923 -923 Learning to Refuse (13)_1
Howard Coleman, after botching the cooperation, not only had no intention whatsoever of rectifying the situation but even sent his secretary straight back to the office.
Howard dialed roughly ten phone calls in succession before he started to seem somewhat agitated, tossing his phone onto the dining table. Then he raised his hand and tugged at his tie to give himself some air.
After such a series of actions, Howard completely failed to notice that someone had quietly taken a seat opposite him.

Anita Madris had returned to the country two years earlier and was still in Ciawell.
Over these two years, she had seen Howard several times, mostly at banquets. Their social statuses were worlds apart; even if they were at the same event, they often had no chance to exchange greetings, so she could only stand amongst the crowd, looking up at him.
Anita’s company was not far from this tea restaurant on the Third Ring. She and her colleagues had gone to the mall opposite to have lunch, and on their way back, a colleague with sharp eyes pointed to a man in the window of the tea restaurant, exclaiming about his handsomeness. Only then did she turn her head and, to her surprise, it was Howard Coleman.
He sat alone in the tea restaurant, guarding a table full of nearly untouched food, constantly on his mobile phone, seemingly in the middle of a call with someone.
Actually, over the years, Anita had never forgotten Howard, and she had also tried, subtly and overtly, to inquire about him through her former colleagues from Pristine’s Enterprises. She knew that he and Madeleine had divorced and that Madeleine had gone to Oceania. She was also aware that Howard had changed a lot over the years, not even having a girlfriend.
After Anita and her colleagues had walked a significant distance past the tea restaurant, she found an excuse to turn back and made her way to the tea restaurant where Howard was present.
She approached Howard and called out his name, but the man seemed as if he hadn’t heard at all, focused intently on making his calls. So, she took a seat opposite him.
Anita sat for a full fifteen minutes, but the man across from her never even realized she was there, and she eventually couldn’t help but call out again, “Howard.”
Howard lifted his eyelids, swept a glance at her, but it was just that—a brief glance—and then he dropped his gaze, picked up the phone from his table, dialed another number, and held it to his ear.
In the moment Howard looked at her, Anita had harbored some expectation about how Howard would react to seeing her again. But to her dismay, he had merely glanced at her in a perfunctory manner, as though she was just a stranger.
The smile on Anita’s lips froze instantly as she saw the man before her repeatedly take the phone away from his ear and continue to make calls.
When Howard made his last call, Anita clearly saw the words “Madeleine” displayed on the phone screen.
Madeleine… April… So, the person he had been incessantly calling, sitting here all this time, was her.
Anita’s complexion turned rather pale; she stared at Howard, who still had not recognized her, closed her eyes briefly, then slowly rose to her feet and hurried toward the tea restaurant’s exit.

Outside the tea restaurant, there was no parking space. Andrew Henris dropped Madeleine off, asking her to go ahead and order while he parked the car at the mall opposite.
