Chapter 37 - Are you really okay?

"Are you in heat?" Kang-woo asked with a worried look on his face and Chin-hwa laughed.

"Do I look like I'm in heat?" He asked. "I'm in my right mind." He flapped his hands. "And I can think clearly. My cheeks aren't flushed either, and this pheromone... Does it smell like mine?"

Kang-woo sniffed the air around him and maybe got a little too close just to be sure and then he moved back and covered his nose, shaking his head.

It was disgusting for some reason and he could tell... That wasn't Chin-hwa's pheromones.

"See?" Chin-hwa said and sighed. "Don't just listen to what others say. It's heat pheromones, yes." He tugged at his coat, indicating it was simply on the surface. "But it's not mine. And it's almost completely gone already."

"Then, you're safe?" Kang-woo asked and Chin-hwa sighed. "You aren't in danger or anything, right?"

Chin-hwa shook his head and smiled.

"I'm perfectly fine." But he couldn't say the same to that older guy's arm. Seriously, why did he get so pissed?

He looked so scary for a moment.

He didn't like the words the older man used but violence was not the way to go. At least, that's what he'd like to say.

He deserved every bit of agony and pain, that piece of scum. It was Alphas like him that went around targeting innocent Omegas who were in trouble with their heat cycle, suddenly spiraling out of control.

He wished for more pain on bastards like that.

As for Kang-woo, he reached his hand, attempting to brush the worry off his face with his thumb but stopped as soon as he heard Yun-tae's voice.

"Are you two okay?" Yun-tae asked, approaching with one of the security guards.

He had stood at the side because he knew there was nothing he could do but when he spotted the security guard at the far end, he knew they could help.

"This guy again." The security guard exclaimed in distaste as if he had seen this older man far too commonly. "He's always targeting Omega's. I'll take him to the police once more and I hope they lock him for good. I'm sorry for the inconvenience."

"Oh, this fine." Chin-hwa said, smiling politely and subconsciously showing off his cuteness.

It was as if a burden had been lifted and he felt so satisfied seeing that man suffer for grabbing him. He could rot in jail, that way, no one would ever fall victim to the likes of him.

"Are you really okay?" Kang-woo asked Chin-hwa once, looking at the hand the man had grabbed, and Chin-hwa shook it off.

He looked like a dejected puppy who had yet to receive enough consolation for being wronged.

'Seriously, who's the one that needs comforting here?' Chin-hwa thought and sighed. "I'm fine. He didn't hold too tightly, so..." He started pulling his sleeve up just to assure Kang-woo that there was nothing to be worried about. "...there's no brui-" his words were cut short when he found a deep red handprint on his arm. "Ah, how did that get here?"

A dangerous shadow loomed over him and he raised his head to find Kang-woo's eyes turning dark. He turned around, probably attempting to go after that guy and hit him where it hurt the most, but Chin-hwa caught his hand.

"Okay, fine. It did leave a bruise but don't act rash." He said, pulling him back.

"But look what he did to your hand." Kang-woo said, his angry face turning sad and pained. "He left a bruise."

"Yeah, he left a bruise on me, not you. So, why are you the one feeling the pain and not me?" He asked and Kang-woo pursed his lips.

He stood in front of Chin-Hwa and then dropped his hands on his shoulders.

"Hwa, I care for you a lot." He said. "So, I will feel pain if someone tries to hurt you. Even if you don't feel the pain, it doesn't change the facts, does it?"

Chin-hwa went silent. Were they shooting a drama or something? Why was he acting like this in public and his words... He looked towards Yun-tae. Yun-tae was not used to how affectionate Kang-woo was towards him, so he just might mistake his 'brotherly' affection for something else and misunderstand completely.

He sighed.

"I understand." Chin-hwa said. "You've always been like this. But I'm serious, it doesn't even hurt."

"But Hwa,"

"End of discussion." Chin-hwa declared, putting Kang-woo to a halt in his words.

Sometimes, he acted like a soft baby. Other times, he acted like the dominant Alpha he was, carrying out his will with the method of coercion. And then there were times that he got angry on his behalf, deviating from his normal sense of self and hating anything that brought Chin-Hwa discomfort.

He was a real piece puzzle.

"Yun-tae and I will go get an ointment since I'm sure you won't let me go alone. And then,"

"No," Kang-woo immediately disagreed. "What if you meet someone like that guy from just now? I can't let you go out by yourselves."

"Wow, what a knight in shining armor." Chin-hwa folded his arms. "Then, why don't I go save us some seats while you two go find the ointment? Sounds fair?"

"No," Kang-woo still disapproved. "It'll be better if you're not by yourself. So," he turned to Yun-tae. "Yun-tae, please stay with him while I go get the ointment."

"A-alright."

Yun-Tae felt a little left out, but he seemed to understand that this was how they communicated as long-time friends. And Kang-woo's affection towards Chin-hwa was... Normal.

In the end, Chin-hwa and Yun-tae went ahead to the theater room and sat there, waiting for Kang-woo and the movie to start.

Kang-woo returned shortly, smiling in relief as he found one shortly after they went their separate ways.

"I'll put it on for you." Kang-woo said, taking the seat in between the both of them.

Chin-hwa had planned to sit next to Yun-tae and Kang-woo would be at the other end. That way, he wouldn't come into contact with him during the movie.

But thanks to the ointment application, it seemed like his seat arrangement wouldn't do. So, Kang-woo stayed in between them during the movie.

But it didn't look like Kang-woo was satisfied even after the ointment was applied. He looked like a sulking puppy with ears down and eyes glistening with tears.

He was so cute.

"But Hwa, I wanted to ask," Yun-tae spoke up, causing Chin-hwa to tear his gaze from Kang-woo and turn to him.

"Yes?"

"What took you so long and how did you get Omega heat pheromones all over you?"

"An Omega went into heat in the restroom I went into, so I assisted him and called someone who could help him. That's why I have this faint bead pheromone on me. But don't worry," he smiled. "He got help. So, it's all over now."

"You're so kind, Chin-hwa." Yun-tae said but Chin-hwa did not know if to call himself that.

"Hm, maybe I am." He muttered.

Were his actions considered kind? He helped an Omega without expecting anything in return but hoped that if he got into a situation like that one day, a random stranger would help him. And he was currently helping his friend so he could get the guy he liked, even if it was the same guy he liked, just so he could hurry and get rid of his feelings for him.

Was that kindness? He felt he was selfish, with all that he did.

He turned to Kang-woo, whose eyes were still fixed on his arm, and sighed.

"Byul, you can stop sulking now. You've applied the ointment now, so it's going to be okay in a few seconds. Let's just watch the movie and worry about nothing else, okay?"
