To Byul (Omegaverse)-Chapter 189: I need to call my dad
"You’re pregnant,"
Those words kept ringing in Chin-hwa’s head. What was this? Was it a joke? Kang-woo wouldn’t joke about something like this. So, was it really true? He was pregnant?
How come?
Was it because they spent their heat together? Ah, he could feel his body trembling, and he moved his shaking hand to his belly.
There was a baby growing inside him. Ah, what was going on?
What would happen now? What would happen to his life? He was supposed to go for his internship program, and then he would graduate the next year, get a job with Kang-woo and... They would create their family from there, so why now?
Why was he carrying a baby so soon?
He covered his mouth, feeling a strong urge to throw up.
"Hwa," Kang-woo called, alarmed, but Chin-hwa raised his hand to stop him from worrying.
"I... I’m fine," he said, but how could he say that when he had begun to cry?
He thought about it a while back. What would happen if it turned out he was pregnant with Kang-woo’s child? Would he be overjoyed to the point of tears, or would he cry because he was scared?
Right now... He didn’t even know what to feel. He was confused. He was worried and anxious.
He...
"Wahh," he cried, and Kang-woo held him in his arms. "I’m scared," he cried.
Kang-woo thought of different reactions from Chin-hwa. He might not believe it, and when he did, the shock would cause him to faint. He might believe it and go numb for a moment, which was even more worrisome. And then there was the case of him crying because he was scared.
Surely, he cried. He cried because he was scared and confused. He cried because he didn’t know how his life would progress with this sudden twist.
But what scared Chin-hwa more than anything was this,
’It’s too early. Just how am I going to be a suitable mother for Kang-woo’s child when I’m still so young? Am I going to be a suitable mother that my child will look up to? I... I’m scared that I won’t be able to do a good job. I’m so scared.’
Yes, he was more worried about the child’s upbringing and his qualifications as a mother rather than the fact that he might drop out of school in order to be a good mother.
(Don’t worry, you won’t drop out.)
After crying for a while, Chin-hwa’s heart got lighter, but Kang-woo’s felt heavier. He promised never to cause Chin-hwa any more pain and yet... He was crying once more because of him.
He was such a failure.
"I need to call my dad," Chin-hwa said as Kang-woo cleaned his face with a handkerchief.
Kang-woo remembered Hae-won telling him not to call anyone besides Baek-Hyun. So, if Chin-hwa was planning to call Baek-Hyun, then it was fine by him.
But... How would he react to this news?
"Alright," Kang-woo said, whiping out his phone from his pocket. "I’ll dial the number for you."
Chin-hwa was shaking. Kang-woo could feel it as he held on tightly to him.
This must be hard. Very hard. He bit his lip and dialed the number.
After the first two rings, Baek-Hyun picked up.
"Hello? Kang-woo?" He answered, and Kang-woo gulped.
"Samchon," Kang-woo called, his breath hard and uneasy. "Please, can you come over? I know you’re busy but..." He glanced at Chin-hwa. "Hwa really needs to talk to you."
Baek-Hyun went silent for a second, feeling things might be going wrong somewhere, given how Kang-woo sounded.
He was busy, yes, but it wasn’t something that he couldn’t leave.
Besides, he hadn’t had his lunch break, so he could just take the rest of the day off from here.
"Alright, I’ll be over there in 30," Baek-Hyun said and then cut the call.
He stared at his phone, an inescapable feeling pressing the pit of his belly. It felt like it was urgent and something had gone out of their hands.
"I don’t have a good feeling about this." Baek-Hyun thought and then sighed. "If so, I have to get to Hwa’s side as quickly as I can."
He glanced at the workload on his desk and then at his secretary. A woman in her mid-thirties.
"I have to leave now," Baek-Hyun said. "My baby needs me."
His secretary, even if she wanted to complain, knew she couldn’t say anything to change his mind, so she swallowed her complaint and nodded.
"Very well, sir."
Baek-Hyun was well-known as a passionate family man who did not hesitate to drop a 3 billion deal if he had to rush over to his family in that instant.
It was especially so for his last child. The pearl of the Sun family. He took after his mother’s last name, and that was because we Baek-Hyun felt it was only fair that Hae-won’s last name was passed down, especially since it would be given to the favourite last child.
"Have a safe journey, sir." She bowed her head as he headed out.
Baek-Hyun didn’t take up to that thirty minutes because he drove as fast as he could, worrying about his son and what he might be going through.
As soon as he got to Kang-woo’s house, he got out of the car and dialed his number.
"I’m here," he said. "I’m coming in now."
He got in the elevator and headed up. As soon as he got to Kang-woo’s house, he rang the bell.
In that moment, he felt quite anxious, worriedly wondering about possible ways to soothe his son if he found him crying.
It had been a while since he saw Chin-hwa cry, so his heart wasn’t having it easy.
Kang-woo finally opened the door, and Baek-Hyun asked,
"Where is he?"
Kang-woo turned around, and Baek-Hyun walked in, his eyes roaming around till he found Chin-hwa in the living room. He got up from the chair, clenching his sweater and biting his lip with his gaze on the floor.
Chin-hwa was looking pale and shaken as he avoided eye contact, as if feeling guilty for a crime he had committed.
But more than that, that delicate face of his looked like he was going to explode in tears.
"Hwa?" Baek-Hyun called, his heart breaking at the sight, and Chin-hwa raised his head.
"Dad," he called, his eyes red from the tears he had shed a while ago. "I..." The words were heavy like a burden. It was hard to say it. He was scared to say it.
Baek-Hyun didn’t really want to hear about it that badly. He wanted to walk up to Chin-hwa and hug him, assuring him that everything would be okay despite the problem.
But just before he was able to get to him, Chin-hwa finally said it.
"I... I’m pregnant."
