Chapter 397: Chapter 377: Can We Register Our Marriage First? 2

Rong Mochen knew she hadn’t been away from Xixi and Hanhan for so long and missed them dearly, so he called the old mansion.

"Hello."

The phone rang for a while before it was answered, but the voice wasn’t Li Li’s or Rong Zhengfeng’s; it was a tender, curious child’s voice.

Rong Mochen’s dark eyes flashed with mild surprise, "Xixi?"

There was a pause of a few seconds, then excitement, "Daddy."

Upon hearing "Daddy," Rong Mochen’s expression softened instantly, and his tone became gentler, "Why is Xixi answering the phone? Where are Great-grandpa and Grandpa Li?"

"Great-grandpa’s not feeling well; he’s resting upstairs. Grandpa Li is building a small house with Little Yanzi." Xixi replied earnestly.

"Great-grandpa’s not feeling well?" Rong Mochen frowned, looking at Jin Jumo, who was also a bit anxious.

"Daddy, don’t worry. The doctor just came to see Great-grandpa and said he was just in a bad mood, um... something about being stressed. But the doctor has given Great-grandpa medicine, and after resting for a while, he’ll be fine." Xixi said.

Emotionally stressed?

Rong Mochen pressed his lips together, "Xixi, did anyone visit Great-grandpa today?"

"Yes, a very stern aunt. Xixi accidentally bumped into the aunt, and she wasn’t happy.

Dad, Xixi didn’t do it on purpose, really." Xixi said a bit glumly.

Rong Mochen’s dark eyes squinted slightly, the corners of his thin lips curled a bit while talking to Xixi on the phone, "Hmm, Daddy believes Xixi didn’t do it on purpose. Xixi is a good child."

"Hehe. Where’s Mommy?"

Xixi asked.

Rong Mochen raised an eyebrow, handed the phone to Jin Jumo, and said softly, "Our daughter is looking for you."

Jin Jumo couldn’t help but smile happily, she quickly took the phone and pressed it eagerly to her ear, "Xixi, it’s Mommy. Has Xixi been a good girl at Great-grandpa’s house these days? Did you cry?"

"Mommy, oh, Xixi misses you so much, so much. Have you missed Xixi..."

Xixi made funny noises on purpose, acting spoiled.

Jin Jumo chuckled softly, "Mommy misses Xixi too."

"Mommy definitely doesn’t miss Xixi as much. Xixi thinks of you while eating, while drinking, and even while sleeping. Mommy, when will you come and pick up Xixi and Brother?"

"Doesn’t Xixi like staying with Great-grandpa?"

"No, Xixi likes Great-grandpa and likes staying with him. But Xixi misses Mommy and Daddy, and wants to live with them too." Xixi said, filled with distress.

Jin Jumo smiled, "Then how about in the future, Great-grandpa, Mommy and Daddy, and Xixi and Hanhan all live together?"

"Really?"

Xixi exclaimed in surprise.

"Yes." Jin Jumo confirmed.

"Yay, that’s great, that’s great!" The little girl giggled over the phone, a sound as clear as wind chimes, soothing the furrows in Jin Jumo’s heart.

Jin Jumo’s eyes were gentle, her voice soft enough to drip honey, "Xixi, where’s Brother?"

"Brother is helping Grandpa Li with the little house. Does Mommy want to talk to Brother?" Xixi asked.

"Is Brother busy?"

"Mommy, I’ll tell you a secret: Brother misses Mommy and Daddy too, he just doesn’t say it." Xixi suddenly whispered conspiratorially.

Jin Jumo felt touched with a hint of heartache. How could the little guy not miss them! Especially after what happened last night, with the unborn child still not entirely out of danger!

A large hand silently held onto Jin Jumo’s hand holding the phone, the warmth seeped through her skin, filling her with reassurance and emotion.

Jin Jumo blinked softly and smiled at Rong Mochen.

"Mom."

Hanhan’s restrained little joyful voice came through the phone.

Jin Jumo’s lips curled upwards, "Baby, I heard from your sister you’re helping Grandpa Li with the little house, is it done?"

"Grandpa Li’s still working on it. Mom, when will you come to get me and Xixi..."

"Brother, Mommy just said that in the future, all of us: you, me, Great-grandpa, Daddy, and Mommy will live together." Xixi’s whispering voice floated through the phone.

Jin Jumo’s eyes curved with smiles, her daughter could always make her melt with sweetness!

"Mom, is it true?" Even Hanhan, who was usually calm, felt a hint of surprise and uncontrollable joy.

"It’s true... in the future."

Jin Jumo replied happily.

She didn’t mind living with the family.

But now wasn’t the right time, given her status, moving into the Rong Mansion would be rather awkward.

Besides, her brother wouldn’t agree!

There was silence from the other end, but Jin Jumo could imagine Hanhan’s expression at that moment.

Surely trying hard not to roll his eyes but failing to hold it back.

Thinking of it, Jin Jumo couldn’t help but laugh.

Hanhan was silent for a while on the other end, then asked, "So when will you come to pick up Xixi and me?"

The lashes of Jin Jumo slightly drooped down, "In a few days. Mommy will go to see you and your sister at your great-grandfather’s place in a few days."

"...Oh, okay. I’ll go help Grandpa Li build a house, you can talk to Xixi."

Hanhan then handed the phone to Xixi.

Jin Jumo talked with Xixi for a while before ending the call.

Rong Mochen took the phone from her hand and placed it on the bedside table, turning his head to gaze softly at Jin Jumo.

Jin Jumo’s eyes flickered slightly, "Why are you looking at me like that? Is there a flower on my face?"

Rong Mochen smiled, reached out, and pinched her cheek, "Do you really plan to live with Grandpa in the future? Does that not bother you?"

"It doesn’t," Jin Jumo shook her head, answering candidly.

Rong Mochen’s dark eyes suddenly deepened, gazing at her, his voice low and rich, "When?"

"Hmm?"

Jin Jumo was momentarily stunned, not understanding.

"When will Grandpa come to live with us?"

Rong Mochen lowered his lashes and asked softly.

Jin Jumo’s pupils dilated, staring blankly at Rong Mochen, her expression suddenly somewhat frozen and stiff.

Rong Mochen tightened his grip on her hand, staring deeply into her eyes, "Hmm? When?"

Jin Jumo opened her mouth but couldn’t produce an answer.

Because right now, she didn’t have an answer herself!

When he asked when she would live with Rong Zhengfeng, it was tantamount to probing when their relationship could progress further—into marriage!

Rong Mochen saw the confusion and hesitation in Jin Jumo’s eyes, undeniably feeling her delayed answer and hesitation stabbing at his heart like a thorn.

Yet, there was not a trace of annoyance or harshness on his face. On the contrary, he gently stroked Jin Jumo’s head, and kissed both her bewildered eyes, "I understand."

He said.

"You know, it’s not that I don’t want to, right? Tell me, you know."

"I know."

Even as Rong Mochen said he understood, he couldn’t help but press lightly on Jin Jumo’s shoulders, his lips swiftly and firmly claiming hers.

The kiss was fierce yet carried a hint of heartache.

Jin Jumo gazed at him with her eyes full, "Rong Mochen..."

"We can postpone the wedding, we don’t have to announce our marriage to the public now, we don’t even have to tell others, including Grandpa. Can we get the marriage license first, hmm?" Rong Mochen suddenly fixed his eyes on her, speaking deeply.

Looking at the bulging veins on his forehead and his flushed dark eyes, Jin Jumo felt a sharp tug at the tenderest part of her heart, "Rong, Rong Mochen, don’t compromise this much for me, I, I don’t want you to do this."

Rong Mochen held one side of her face, his voice hoarse, "All I need is your answer, can you, or can’t you?"

Jin Jumo looked at him, with hot tears streaming from the corners of her eyes, her sore throat moved, speaking in a hoarse voice, "Besides you, I have no other choice, nor will I give myself another choice. Apart from lacking that legal certification, we are like every couple in the world, aren’t we? So what does it matter if we don’t get the license? Lacking one document won’t make me love you any less. Would you stop loving me if we don’t get the license?"

"You know I wouldn’t." Rong Mochen still emotionally stirred, his dark bloodshot eyes fixed on Jin Jumo, "I won’t stop loving you because we don’t get the license, but I can be certain, after we do, I will love you more."

Jin Jumo’s peach blossom eyes trembled fiercely.

"Little Mo, even if it means a secret marriage, won’t you agree?" Rong Mochen looked at Jin Jumo, his thin lips curling into a slight cool arc.

"Uh..." Jin Jumo’s heart ached at the fleeting disappointment and dejection in his dark eyes.

She shook her head and held his hand on her face helplessly, her voice trembling softly, "Rong Mochen, don’t be like this."

An unexpected gloom flickered through Rong Mochen’s dark eyes, and his cold, tense face reverted quickly, but the cold haze and distance emanating from him made Jin Jumo feel like they were back four years ago, during the transactional phase of their relationship.

With her heart sinking continuously, Jin Jumo frowned in distress, looking sadly at him, "Rong Mochen, talk to me, don’t be like this."

Rong Mochen’s expression was flat, his dark eyes gazing at her without warmth, "What do you want me to say?"

Jin Jumo bit her lip, looking innocently at him through her peach blossom eyes, "Say anything, it’s okay."

"What do you want to eat tonight?" Rong Mochen said.

"Uh..." It’s not like this, it’s not like this.

She didn’t want him to talk to her indifferently like that, the coldness and detachment in his tone.

Jin Jumo’s long lashes trembled incessantly in anxiety.

Taking a deep breath suddenly, Jin Jumo furrowed her brow, staring pitifully at him, suppressing the panic rising in her throat, and said softly, "Is this how you plan on treating me from now on?"

Rong Mochen’s stern face showed no change, his dark eyes quietly watching Jin Jumo, remaining silent.

Jin Jumo’s lips faintly pursed, her voice lowering further, "Do all men like to use silent treatment as punishment?"

"Uh..." Rong Mochen squinted slightly, still not speaking.

Jin Jumo sniffed, her long, slightly wet lashes drooping deeply. After a while, she released Rong Mochen’s hand on her face, nodded slightly, "I understand now."

What did she understand?

Rong Mochen furrowed his brow, pressing his thin lips tightly as he scrutinized Jin Jumo.
