Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Take Your Stuff and Get the Hell Out!

Hearing Iris Crawford say this, Lachlan Wyatt instinctively felt...

a sense of stifling oppression in his chest.

Her eyes were always sharp, with love and hate clearly and distinctly written in them, never hiding anything. But now, when Iris looked at him, there were emotions in her eyes that Lachlan dared not meet directly.

Perhaps she had guessed from the beginning when he said this was just a game of manipulation, yet Iris still genuinely fell for him.

Spending all those days and nights together, she couldn’t avoid her true feelings.

"That’s why I hate you..." Iris took a deep breath but ended up just smiling, "No, I guess I hate myself for being so hopeless. Lachlan, if that’s the case, why... do you always come to save me when I’m in danger?"

To make me fall hopelessly in love with you, so I can be used by you?

Lachlan, you must think I’m a complete fool!

Iris’s tone was quite sharp. Ever since the kidnapping incident, she had become a person with thorns, once stripping herself bare for Jordan Jacobs, only to regrow her defenses inch by inch under the knife of that criminal.

Her beauty now carried an additional layer of aggressiveness, a fierceness that ordinary people could not possess, belonging only to someone who has been betrayed and turned into a beast.

It was much more dazzling than others.

A wild beast out of control—taming it is where the thrill lies.

"You want to control me, is that it?" Faced with Iris’s accusations, Lachlan found himself unable to utter a single word; he shook his head and attempted to speak, "That’s how it was initially."

So he went to all lengths to maintain an ambiguous relationship with Iris, challenging each other, probing each other, and in moments of weakness, crossed lines several times.

But that day Iris was taken away by Jonas Kingsley, he truly panicked.

Panic that was beyond his control.

Lachlan’s words were a severe blow to Iris; her eyelashes fluttered, and her eyes widened with effort. "From the start, you kept me by your side to shield yourself, afraid Jonas would target my sister; that’s why you saved me, helped me heal and lose weight, to draw Jonas’s attention..."

Jonas was a madman; Lachlan knew his terror well and had come into contact with some of Jonas’s plans, which involved Iris’s sister. So he thought of keeping Iris at his side just in case.

It wasn’t that he truly needed Iris to do something for him, but if one day he needed to use Iris to exchange for her sister’s life, Lachlan figured he definitely would, without blinking...right?

Lachlan hesitated.

He clenched his fingers, a face flashing across his mind, as he should have been concerned with Iris’s sister at this moment, but for some reason, he couldn’t take his eyes off Iris’s face.

"I admit at first I wanted to use you, but didn’t we lay all this out in the open?" Lachlan, frustrated by his own emotional outburst, purposely averted his gaze, raising his voice as if feeling guilty, "Why are you now making it seem like I’ve wronged you by accusing me? Was I not good to you?"

"I’d rather you not be good to me!" Iris pressed Lachlan’s shoulders forcefully, and as she looked up at him, her eyes were already red. "I’ve had enough! I don’t want to stay by your side anymore!"

Lachlan was startled, feeling lost for words, and after a long pause, he asked hoarsely, "What did you say?"

"I don’t want to stay by your side anymore." Word by word, Iris seemed to have made up her mind.

To be toyed with and still be moved by the greatness of such enduring love—how utterly pathetic!

"Fine." As if provoked by Iris’s emotions, Lachlan pushed Iris aside harshly, "Then let’s break up. You take your stuff, I’ll take mine, and we’ll both bloody get lost!"
