Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Doesn’t She Look Good in Stockings?

Iris Crawford had no idea Lachlan Wyatt was standing outside the door. She had just finished talking to Hector Sutton about her relationship with Lachlan Wyatt, and now she unexpectedly encountered him before she could adjust her expression, letting him see it all.

With a fleeting glance, Lachlan saw her panic and helplessness as she looked up, as if in that moment, she weren’t the beautiful, strong-minded heiress bent on vengeance, but rather an ordinary person who couldn’t obtain love.

It was only a moment, and Iris quickly composed her expression.

Looking at Lachlan with some surprise, she asked, "What are you doing outside the door?"

"..." James Chesterton thought, he couldn’t very well admit to eavesdropping on her, so he stepped forward, bypassed Lachlan, embraced Iris’ shoulder, and casually removed the listening device from her sleeve while making up an excuse, saying, "We were just worried you and Hector Sutton might get into a fight inside, so we stayed nearby to step in and mediate anytime."

Iris looked up at the ceiling, "In your minds, what kind of image do you have of me..."

"Hmm, probably a captivating madwoman." James accurately chose a descriptor, and placed the listening device into his pocket where Iris couldn’t see it. Lachlan, with earphones, heard a screeching noise, making him furrow his brows and remove the earphones.

Unaware that they had overheard the whole conversation, Iris remained somewhat confused, still embraced by James Chesterton. "I wouldn’t beat him unless Hector Sutton provokes me..."

"..." Can you hear what you’re saying? Is this something a woman should say!

Meanwhile, Hector Sutton followed behind, letting out a cold snort, "What counts as provoking? Does hitting on you count?"

Iris stopped in her tracks, "Haven’t I answered you about this already?"

Hector’s gaze turned fierce. For the first time in his life, he was being nice to a girl, only to find Iris didn’t care! Could he tolerate this? If he tolerated this, he might as well write his name backward!

It was a joke to give up so easily; he reckoned his father would ridicule him for it!

So Hector took a few steps forward to catch up with Iris, but someone held him back unexpectedly.

Hector paused in confusion, noticing Lachlan was holding onto his hand.

A thought passed through his mind: could Lachlan be interested in Iris?

The next second, Iris’ words echoed in his head: I’ve given up on him.

He chuckled, putting on a smile and gently brushed off Lachlan’s hand, "Brother, you’re out of the game, no need to interfere with me, you know."

"..." Having been shaken off by Hector, Lachlan’s temple throbbed painfully, thinking none of the men around him were trustworthy. See how they abandon loyalty for a pretty face like Iris! All for her, they’re ignoring any previous bonds of brotherhood!

Reflecting a bit, Lachlan asked, "What do you mean out of the game?"

Hector raised an eyebrow, evidently not eager to catch up, allowing James and Iris to walk ahead a few steps before he lowered his voice and said beside Lachlan’s ear, "I just confessed to Iris inside."

Even though he heard the whole process, Hector’s words still made Lachlan’s heart skip a beat.

It seemed he could tell everyone about his affection for Iris without restraint.

Hector couldn’t perceive Lachlan’s thoughts, still smugly saying, "I asked Iris if she liked you. That girl seemed to like you quite a bit, then she said she’d had feelings for you but your relationship seems quite enigmatic, so I couldn’t inquire much, being respectful of her personal choice, you know. She ultimately stated she had given up on you and wouldn’t care to like you anymore."

Lachlan’s heart turned cold.

Hector, in his characteristic boldness, patting Lachlan’s back, "Good brother, I really owe you one. If Iris still liked you, I wouldn’t stand a chance. Bless my luck that you made her give up, haha, no hard feelings, buddy. You don’t like Iris anyway, pass her to me and let me have a try."

You don’t like Iris anyway, pass her to me and let me have a try.

Hector’s tone showed he was clearly oblivious to what had transpired between them, still thanking Lachlan.

Suddenly, Lachlan felt a surge of indescribable emotion in his chest, both sour and itchy, as if his possessions were being ogled by others, yet he couldn’t do a thing about it.

Iris wasn’t his toy, although he had always wanted to make her his.

But Iris wouldn’t comply.

Precisely because she wouldn’t, and didn’t yield, Lachlan became deeply intrigued by her, so much so that when Iris showed signs of yearning for and relying on him, his instinct was to resist and evade.

Perhaps he didn’t want Iris to become like those superficial women outside. Or maybe, her love for him would evoke a sense of guilt he’d never felt.

But this indifference made Iris excise her affection for Lachlan herself.

She was too clever, yet too ruthless.

She didn’t require Lachlan to say anything; she simply ended it herself, without burdening him in the slightest, nor causing any trouble.

Was this woman too strong, or too... lonely?

While Lachlan pondered Iris’ behavior, Hector Sutton gleefully smiled as if it were Christmas, "Ah, it’s great. No one likes Iris now; it’s the perfect chance for me."

"Previously, when I called you a scumbag, I was wrong. Lachlan, you’re a good man. Two years, and you haven’t made a move, I know you’re holding out for the brotherly bond, thanks so much. Let’s have a meal together sometime!"

Lachlan felt like coughing up blood; Hector’s words seemed to have punched a hole of internal injury, making him want to squeeze his throat and tell him, "There’s no way Iris would ever stoop to your level!"

I’m the gem before you, and she wouldn’t want someone like you!

Yet Lachlan kept silent, his stubborn nature prevailing.

He followed to the outside door, and Hector pulled out numerous contracts from his car, saying to Iris, "If you’re going to be part of it, just sign here. This is the contract for the drama, and this one, this one contains all the business resources from Gia earlier, see which interests you, then I can hand them over to you."

Should Iris wish to share Gia’s resources with the Jacobs family, it would precisely suit Hector’s intentions since Gia was previously part of his company. Iris seeking resources meant more interaction with Hector, leading to more future exchanges.

Lachlan felt uneasy, wondering how things developed into Hector getting closer to Iris?

But Iris didn’t hesitate, took up the pen, and signed the contract right there, "How much?"

Hector was stunned.

This woman’s tone regarding money almost sounded like she was asking about the weather that day.

"I’m asking, how much to play the antagonist." Iris signed her name, "I can’t just act for no reason; you know I’m no minor role. If the money’s not enough, my brother, tsk, won’t agree..."

Hector realized he had been too filtered by his admiration for this woman; she was clearly still the money-hungry Iris!

The news of Iris joining the cast once revealed, caused quite a stir within the circle. Her so-called Emperor Driver on social media was frequented by visitors, split into two factions.

The first, mindless fans, not just from Patrick Pierce but also Vera’s, primarily filled with venomous curses against Iris.

The second batch, mostly girls, came to watch the spectacle—"Come and see the top Alpha beauty heiress""Teach me how to hook men, sis""Should I publish a book? I also want to go for a ride with Patrick Pierce".

Iris Crawford’s Weibo is bustling, she’s naturally happy about it. The divorce agreement with Jordan Jacobs is already in process and in a few days she’ll be free again. Then she can turn around and deal with Yvonne Jennings, being a mistress isn’t that easy!

So Iris Crawford interacted warmly on Weibo with fans and haters alike.

[Snatching Vera’s resources, this gal is shameless. Those who praise her looks, what kind of mentality do they have?]

Iris Crawford replied: Those who snatch from others will eventually get snatched from. It’s Vera’s karma. If she’s unhappy, she should come find me face-to-face, no need for you to vent for her here. She earns tens of millions a month, and how much do you earn?

[Were you seducing Patrick Pierce? Ride on his coattails to enter entertainment circles? Our clear and innocent Pierce, his reputation ruined by you! He’s still a child!]

Iris Crawford typed with glee: Haven’t you seen a good-looking guy before, how pathetic. When you have time, search for how my brother looks, I’ve seen him since a child, not like you only know Patrick Pierce and go into a frenzy. Women, need broader experiences.

[Why does a rich heiress come to the entertainment industry? Is it because of lacking skills, big companies don’t employ you? Hahaha]

Seeing this one, Iris felt particularly pleased, she joyously replied: Yes, my brother did all the work, I’m just useless, only capable to count money in entertainment.

Lachlan Wyatt woke up in the morning, browsing through Iris Crawford’s Weibo and seeing her replies to venomous netizens, he nearly laughed out of anger. How could this woman be so obstinate, she seems unafraid of cyberbullying, instead wishing it would intensify.

Contrary to all mainstream views, she’s extreme, radical, with a venomous heart, possessing both commendable and uncommendable traits a woman shouldn’t have — she has them all.

Lachlan pushed the door to wake up Iris, who sat up on the bed, surprised when Lachlan enters without knocking. The wide neckline slid off her shoulder, revealing a vast area of fair skin.

Irritatingly bright.

Lachlan’s Adam’s apple moved, recalling Hector Sutton’s gaze on Iris’s back, unconsciously muttered angrily, "Get up, your week-long holiday is over, time to work."

Iris grabbed her hair, annoyed, saying, "Back to being a corporate slave again!"

Seeing her frustrations, Lachlan felt amused, whistling while brushing his teeth, five minutes later, Iris joined him by the sink.

She squeezed toothpaste, then froze.

"Lachlan, are you sick!" Iris exclaimed, "I switched to a new electric toothbrush, and you did too!"

Lachlan wanted to spray toothpaste foam on Iris’s face, "I just bought this! You copy me!"

"I got mine too!" Iris held up her pink electric toothbrush, glanced at Lachlan’s black one, gave up.

Thought changing electric toothbrushes this time wouldn’t match, yet they did again.

Forget it, too lazy to change again.

Seeing her irritated look, Lachlan followed with a smile, somehow feeling this scene wasn’t for others and only he knew.

Having brushed teeth first, Lachlan prepared breakfast, and when he sat sipping coffee, Iris noisily returned to her bedroom. As she descended from the second floor, Lachlan’s heart suddenly contracted.

The woman tidied herself up after washing, wearing a leather skirt, black stockings, high heels descending elegantly, each step enchanting.

Lachlan held the coffee cup, the liquid inside faintly trembled.

He asked, "What are you doing?"

Iris intentionally seated herself sensually opposite Lachlan, left hand fork, right hand knife slicing the sandwich Lachlan made, she said, "Isn’t this what you said? Wear black stockings for next work session."

Lachlan gulped coffee intensely, yet he still felt thirsty.

As she sliced the sandwich, he felt like she wasn’t cutting the sandwich, but rather his heart.

Slowly finishing her meal, Iris stood, smiling professionally at Lachlan saying, "Let’s go, Young Master Wyatt, after a week’s rest, time to adjust back to the routine."

She seems entirely unconcerned about Lachlan now.

Perhaps having stifled any affection towards Lachlan, she could fearlessly unleash those irresistible charms most men couldn’t handle. In her eyes, Lachlan had merged with the ordinary crowd.

Realizing this, Lachlan squinted slightly, sneered, grabbed car keys, and strode to the parking lot.

******

Iris came to work today, attracting attention akin to an emperor’s coronation.

Encapsulated in black stockings, her long legs made everyone she passed dilate their pupils; yet she seemed unfazed, swaying gracefully to her workstation, cleaning dust off a week untouched keyboard, tugging her skirt to sit.

Lachlan followed behind, pushed open the CEO office door, then slowly closed it upon Iris.

Once inside, two worlds were isolated, leaving Iris outside inevitably subjected to discussion.

Just at that moment, a man approached, eyes holding hostility upon seeing Iris.

Iris looked bewildered; the man raised his hand, "I’m Leo Langdon, President Wyatt’s assistant. Previously assigned for a month-long business trip by President Wyatt, I’m back today."

Ah, a colleague, no wonder he saw her as a competitor.

Iris extended her hand to shake his, "Hello, I’m Iris Crawford, the new arrival."

Leo Langdon scrutinized Iris, retracting his gaze sharply seeing her black stockings, gritting his teeth to curse, "Such shamelessness at work."

"You mean me?" Iris gently pinched her stockings, appreciating the texture, she cooed, "That attire is mandated by President Wyatt himself, blame him if you dare."

"Impossible!" Leo Langdon resolutely declared, "President Wyatt isn’t like that! I’ll address your attire in my report to him!"

Iris merely uttered an ’Oh,’ indifferent, then watched Leo Langdon impressionistically report to Lachlan, through slightly ajar doors, hearing Leo Langdon’s righteous protest–

"President, while I was away for a month, you hired a female secretary? Her appearance is ridiculous, those stockings, those stockings..."

Lachlan sipped water, calming Leo, "Don’t fret, not appealing?"

"No..." Leo Langdon froze, shocked seeing Lachlan’s face, after a moment flushed red, stuttering, "Appealing... she is."

Lachlan considered splashing water on him, "You stared, didn’t you!"

Leo Langdon instinctively shielded his face, "You asked if it was appealing!"
