Why?

Wu Wang sat on a small hill, lost in thought. He was perched on a mound formed from the bodies of assorted Heaven Palace minor deities and experts of the Hundred Races. Accompanied by their ghostly cries, wails, and feeble struggles, he sank into profound contemplation.

Why is there such a huge gap in the strength of these Innate Gods? The strong become stronger, and the weak become weaker? Over time, has Heaven Palace completely eliminated the paths of ascent for minor deities?

Tsk, although it is an era of prosperity for living beings, each speck of dust from this golden age falls like an unbearable mountain upon these minor deities. Heaven Palace, wait for your minor deities!

This phrase really is applicable everywhere.

Wu Wang chuckled, raising his hand to brush away the dried blood at the corner of his eye. His disheveled hair, stained with blood, clung to his torn robes, yet this did not detract from his unruffled appearance but rather added an air of unrestrained boldness.

He popped a few elixirs from Shen Nong into his mouth, took a wine jar from the hands of Da Yi who sat beside him, tilted his head back, and took a couple of swigs. The wine was somewhat spicy as it went down his throat.

Wu Wang let out a light breath and glanced at the dense walls of onlookers tens of miles away. Wherever his gaze fell, half of the creatures subconsciously stepped back. Reflected in those myriad eyes, differing in size, color, and even structure, was a figure resembling a demonic deity.

Fear was spreading. When had the creatures of Emperor's City ever witnessed such a scene?

One man, alone, entering enemy lines, tossing figures into the air wherever he passed, meeting hardly any match in combat. Despite the intervention of more than ten powerful gods, who managed to drag the God of Spring into a difficult fight only after a fierce battle, it was these powerful gods who ultimately lay fallen. Moreover, had the God of Spring chosen to kill, half of the figures piled into that small hill might have already been slain.

"Is this what an Immortal from the Human Domain looks like?"

An old Quanrong woman, a practitioner of witchcraft and rituals, had uttered these words tremulously during Wu Wang's fierce battle with numerous minor deities. That day, Emperor's City felt the terror of being dominated by the Human Domain. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Wu Wang had to admit that today, he had not been very restrained. It was originally just a struggle among Divine Generals, but he, a 'God,' had made the first move, breaking the rules of Emperor's City. But Wu Wang, a 'God' with only Da Yi as his Divine General, had acted out of urgency and had not directly obliterated those he fought. It could barely be considered justifiable and reasonable.

Rounded up, it was self-defense. But then, more than ten minor deities from Heaven Palace arrived and attacked together—more than ten gods against just him. Wasn't that a bit too much? With a little consideration, it was nothing short of bullying by virtue of superiority!

Fortunately, the Main Gods from Heaven Palace who appeared here had some sense of dignity; they had only watched from the clouds before and had not joined forces to descend into the battle. Otherwise, Wu Wang might have faced considerable trouble.

Young Master, currently concealing his form on a cloud, had changed the paper packet in his hands a few times. His expression did not vary much, though he sometimes pondered the moves Wu Wang had made. Even more Strong Gods hid within the mist, sensing the Divine Power surging within Wu Wang's body and observing the Daoist Essence swirling around him.

The Yin-Yang Daoist Essence was obscure and mystical. Born from the Human Domain, this Daoist Essence was faintly superior to the Heaven and Earth Dao, interpreting the heavens, the earth, and all things.

The scene was as if frozen in time. In an unnoticed corner, some beings of the Hundred Races pulled out treasures akin to Image Projection Beads, capturing this moment for unknown purposes.

"How are your injuries?" Wu Wang asked without turning his head.

Da Yi grinned, revealing a gaping, blood-stained mouth missing several front teeth. He was about to say he was fine when his blood qi suddenly surged. He turned his head and retched, spewing a mouthful of congealed blood.

"Go back first; there's nothing more for you here," Wu Wang said, patting Da Yi on the shoulder. Da Yi stumbled, his figure lurching forward, unable to steady himself before being caught by a white cloud.

"My lord!" Da Yi hurriedly flipped over, but he lacked the strength to stand.

A breeze blew by, and the white cloud drifted towards Wu Wang's divine statue. High in the sky, Young Master extended a hand, enveloping Da Yi in a light green glow, relieving Wu Wang of his worries.

It was just that Da Yi, this brave man, was rather uncomfortable. He struggled on the cloud for a long time before he could barely sit up. He could only gaze from afar at his god's silhouette, longing to shout for Wu Wang to let him stay, but he found he could not even clench his fist properly. For Da Yi today, the previous battle had pushed him to his limits. In fact, for most of the time, Wu Wang had been protecting him…

Still not enough, Wu Wang thought. To establish his awe, relying on these minor gods of Heaven Palace, who held little true significance, was insufficient.

The minor gods of Heaven Palace were mostly nominal, not responsible for important Divine Positions, possessing very little divine authority, and were far removed from the Dao of Order. Examples included the Sleep God role Yun Zhongjun played while idling in Heaven Palace, or his own status as the God of Spring before being appointed the fourth auxiliary god. Although the profundity of Feng Chun—reawakening life in dead wood—was immensely powerful, Wu Wang's divine authority was weak. Granting an old True Immortal another spring would come at a certain cost.

High profundity, low divine authority—this was in line with what Emperor Shun had said earlier, setting a trap for Wu Wang with the dilemma of whether or not to rescue Shen Nong. In Heaven Palace, the hierarchy was orderly, with minor gods serving mostly as cannon fodder in great battles. Their Dao was merely scraps at the edge of order, a 'decoration' on the Heaven and Earth Seal.

If a fight was to happen today, it should at least involve subduing a few Main Gods of Heaven Palace, like the Mirror God!

Therefore, Wu Wang looked up at the dozen or so figures faintly visible in the clouds, took out a handkerchief, wiped the bloodstains from his face, and tossed the handkerchief onto the face of a minor god at his feet.

"Afraid?" His voice was calm and bland, yet it accurately reached the ears of those Main Gods.

Wu Wang had made up his mind. If more than three Main Gods descended, he would simply stand up and hurl insults. If it were three or fewer, then he would deign to battle them.

However, what surprised Wu Wang was… no god came down. Those more than ten Main Gods seemed deaf and blind, merely staring at him coldly with no intention of descending to fight.

Suddenly, a clear voice rang out!

"Wu Wangzi!"

A Heavenly God, dressed in purple Battle Armor and wielding dual hammers, with a youthful face, slowly emerged from the misty clouds above. His eyes narrowed and his eyebrows bristled. Blue and white arcs of electricity instantly surrounded him as his gauntleted fingers pointed at Wu Wang from afar.

"We still have unresolved grievances from the battle at the Cloud City in the Southeastern Region!"

Wu Wang said, "State your divine name."

The Heavenly God transformed into a lightning bolt a zhang thick and struck the ground, stirring layers of thunderous ripples. In an instant, the area within a three-mile radius became a thundering sea. The Heavenly God seemed to be condensed from thunder, his eyes shining with brilliant azure beams, his robust voice like a chorus of dozens!

"Thunderstorm!"

Wu Wang slowly got to his feet. He tore off his tattered robes and, as a faint golden light emerged around him, donned the Golden Dragon Armor, which had been repaired by the Heavenly Craft Pavilion.

"So, it seems we truly do have old grievances."

The Divine Light in the Thunderstorm God's eyes grew even brighter. His voice, like a roar, declared, "Then let's settle our scores today!"

Thunder erupted. Hundreds, even thousands, of Thunder Dragons formed in the sky behind the god, coloring the entire world in shades of blue and white. They screamed towards Wu Wang, also causing the expressions of the minor gods and Divine Generals below him to change.

Wu Wang chuckled lightly and gently pushed off from the ground. The mountain of people beneath his feet scattered in all directions with ghostly wails and wolfish howls. Using the force of that push, Wu Wang shot into the sky, his left hand gripping the Star Sword in a reverse hold, his right hand already clenched into an iron fist!

Hundreds of large stars appeared high in the sky, tens of thousands of starlights forcibly penetrating the thunder, making Wu Wang's Golden Dragon Armor shine with unrivaled brilliance!

Thunder whipped, and lightning formed a net! Wu Wang remained unfazed, advancing with unstoppable momentum, bearing down directly on the Thunderstorm God!

The Thunderstorm God roared, and the thunder hanging between heaven and earth fell like a torrential downpour! But Wu Wang moved effortlessly through the sea of thunder, punching towards the Thunderstorm God's face, while phantoms of the Yin Yang Eight Trigrams simultaneously appeared around him. On his fist, the Yin Yang Circle rotated at a leisurely pace.

It was clearly a feint. However, the Thunderstorm God was already in a frenzy. Amidst his roars, he raised his War Hammer high. His robe tore and his hair flew wild as his thunder-crafted body swelled to thirty feet tall. The War Hammer swung in a full circle, crashing down on Wu Wang's head!

High in the sky, Young Master clutched a wooden puppet, intently staring down at the sea of thunder below. A bit further away, at the several layers of 'human walls,' many Divine Generals from Emperor's City had appeared, each widening their eyes to watch the confrontation between the two Divine Spirits.

Suddenly, the lightning intensified! The Thunderstorm God's War Hammer seemed to strike Wu Wang's figure, bursting like fireworks as hundreds of lightning bolts exploded in all directions.

A Tai Chi Diagram of the Eight Trigrams, ten zhang in diameter, slowly emerged, firmly blocking the War Hammer. The lines of the Eight Trigrams shone brightly at the same time, with the central Yin Yang symbol seemingly expanding rapidly—Qian, Kun, Zhen, Xun, Kan, Li, Gen, Dui, representing the elements of Heaven and Earth, thunder, wind, water, fire, mountain, and marsh!

The primordial energy of heaven and earth within hundreds of miles was almost instantly drained by this Eight Trigrams Picture!

The Thunderstorm God hurriedly tried to pull back, but before he could make a move, the phantom of the Tai Chi Diagram suddenly shattered. The mottled yet vast energies of heaven and earth surged forth, pushing the Thunderstorm God backward. He could hardly hold onto his War Hammer!

WHOOSH!

Afterimages flickered, outlining the trajectory of Wu Wang's advance. He burst forth from the center of the shattered Tai Chi Diagram. Stepping on the Big Dipper and swirling through the stars, his Star Sword carved dazzling trails. His hand held the brilliance of the Milky Way as he swiftly circled the Thunderstorm God!

But afterimages were merely traces left by Wu Wang's passing. The Thunderstorm God frantically chased the afterimages, searching for Wu Wang. By the time he located Wu Wang, Wu Wang was already behind him, striking at his neck!

"HAAAH—" The Thunderstorm God bellowed, his thunderous form suddenly swelling!

Wu Wang's fist smashed down!

This Innate God was sent flying forward, spewing countless lightning bolts from his mouth and hurtling hundreds of zhang. Yet, before his figure could stabilize, a whooshing noise came from behind. He suddenly turned his head, his pupils, filled with Divine Light, abruptly contracting.

Wu Wang hovered a few dozen zhang behind him. Above his head were the boundless stars, and beneath his feet, the Yin Yang Eight Trigrams. His Longsword casually drew circles from which burst endless Sword Qi. His sword traced Yin and Yang; the stars illuminated Heaven and Earth!

The Thunderstorm God struggled fiercely, his form continuing to swell, but the endless Sword Qi was already upon him, blasting arcs of electricity from his massive divine body and leaving him flat on the ground, unable to lift his head.

This Sword Qi was not only infused with Yin Yang Qi. Yin and Yang were the vessels, with the power of the stars as their backdrop, endowed with Wu Wang's Divine Power, and further amplified by the surging primordial energy of heaven and earth. Combined, they manifested divine power, mana, and the power of nature, converging the profundities of Yin and Yang, the stars, and Feng Chun.

Aside from not wielding his god-slaying Soul Severing Spear or employing the even more impossible Small Heavenly Circuit, Wu Wang went all out. He disregarded the depletion of his Divine Power and Mana to achieve perfect suppression of the Thunderstorm God!

"Wu Wangzi!" the Thunderstorm God growled, roaring.

But Wu Wang remained unmoved, his Star Sword unhurriedly drawing circles. The profundities of Yin and Yang even felt abruptly smooth and unhindered.

The ground had been flattened and shattered, yet a mysterious Divine Power surged from within it, propping up the Thunder God's body. That was the protective formation of Emperor's City.

The Thunderstorm God attempted to shrink his divine body but was immediately bombarded by a denser barrage of Sword Qi. Suddenly, five Tai Chi Diagrams of the Eight Trigrams appeared, pinning his limbs and head to the ground, leaving him completely immobilized.

This Innate God couldn't help but curse loudly, "Wu Wangzi! I will tear you to a thousand pieces! If you have courage, face me head-on!"

Wu Wang's eyebrows furrowed slightly, and he redirected the main burst of Sword Qi towards the Thunderstorm God's neck and the back of his head. The Thunderstorm God's skin was ripped open, and the intimidating thunder around him began to extinguish.

Though Wu Wang's Divine Power was greatly drained, his strikes did not hesitate for a moment. Lost Divine Power could be regained. Since he had chosen to establish his might, he had to solidify his standing! He could actually only sustain such an onslaught for a moment longer, but he was betting that the Thunderstorm God wouldn't last through that moment.

"Wu Wangzi! You are despicable! AAAH!"

"If you have the guts, fight me face-to-face!"

"I am the Thunderstorm God! For the glory of Heaven Palace!"

Wu Wang remained silent, his attacks growing increasingly ruthless, adjusting the main direction of the bursting Sword Qi towards the Thunderstorm God's neck, the back of his head… and his tailbone.

The scene made many goddesses' eyes shine.

"Feng Chun! God of Spring!"

The Thunderstorm God trembled all over, wretched howls escaping his mouth, his right hand clutching the War Hammer slowly loosening its grip.

"I've lost! It is I who have lost! Have mercy! From now on, I will never dare to disrespect the God of Spring again!"

Wu Wang's chilly voice suddenly rang out, "Swear it to the Heavenly Emperor."

The Thunderstorm God hurriedly shouted, "I swear to the Heavenly Emperor! From now on, I will never disrespect the God of Spring!"

The Sword Qi abruptly ceased, and the Yin Yang Qi around the Thunderstorm God quietly dispersed. The Innate God did not seize the chance to counterattack. Maintaining his thunderous form, he vanished in a flash of silver lightning, leaving pools of blood on the ground.

Wu Wang's expression remained unchanged as he stood in the air, glancing around, intending to leave the area in triumph. His Divine Power was nearly depleted. As his original Divine Position was only that of a minor god in Heaven Palace, to recover sufficient Divine Power, he would either need the Star God to descend with his divine body or have to wait for his Divine Power to slowly regenerate. He had no more strength to continue this grueling battle with these Innate Gods.

Just then!

Young Master flicked his finger, and a strand of golden light flowed into Wu Wang's back. The Divine Power within Wu Wang's body… was full.

"Who else?" Wu Wang looked up at the sky, his eyes containing starlight, his aura imposing!

All the gods felt a momentary fear.

Suddenly, a cold laugh sounded. A faint light twinkled in the distant sky, and in the next instant, the goddess in armor with twin ponytails appeared nearby. Tilting her head slightly, she scoffed at Wu Wang, "Since the God of Spring is in such high spirits, how about we spar a bit?"

Wu Wang subconsciously clenched his fists. She was none other than Gold, one of the Five Elements Gods, one of the strongest Innate Gods currently in Heaven Palace, and also his mortal nemesis.

Suddenly, Wu Wang laughed lightly and said indifferently, "I have indeed experienced the Gold God's capabilities. There's no need for it today."

Having said that, he calmly sheathed the Star Sword and turned to fly towards his own divine statue.

"Are you afraid?" Mirth filled the Gold God's eyes.

"Indeed," Wu Wang paused, turning to glance at the Gold God. "I fear that before I am able to fight you, you might, out of dread, launch a sneak attack against me. Here, I am protected by the two highest deities of Heaven Palace; you wouldn't dare do anything to me. If the Gold God is truly confident, why not wait a few decades and see if I can take your head then."

The Gold God's smile vanished, her pretty face turning cold, her eyes looking as if they could shoot out divine weapons.

"Ha, HAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHA!" The Gold God suddenly threw her head back and laughed loudly. That laugh was incredibly grating, making many Innate Gods quite uncomfortable.

"Wu Wangzi, in twenty years, I will come to fight you. When that time comes, don't be hiding in Lady Xihe's embrace, too scared to show your face."

Wu Wang's eyes narrowed slightly, but his figure did not pause as he rode the clouds and drifted far away.

The Gold God's words were entirely unreliable. He wasn't without threats in Heaven Palace, and the one this goddess posed was particularly troublesome. It seemed it was time to devise a plan to deal with the Gold God and collect some interest in advance...
