Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Meeting Him Again 4

"I’m fine..." Xia Xiaonuan forced a smile. "It was my fault earlier, causing your sister to get hurt." Even though she knew she’d been used and manipulated, what could she do? She was slow to react and realized only when things had gone wrong. Besides, she didn’t care at all about Nangong Yaoling and outsiders’ opinions.

But she did care about the man in front of her.

"Don’t say that, I know my sister best. If she does anything improper, I hope you won’t hold it against her." Shaochen said somewhat helplessly.

Xia Xiaonuan suddenly felt an urge to cry.

Among so many people at the banquet, including Nangong Yaoling, they all thought Liang Yuzhu was the brave one and she was the clumsy one.

But unexpectedly, it was Shaochen who understood her the most.

The implication in his words was more than clear. He knew exactly what was going on the moment Liang Yuzhu leaned into Nangong Yaoling’s embrace. It was his mischievous sister playing tricks.

But after all, she was his sister, and he couldn’t say anything. Besides, since even Shaochen could see through the scheme, clever as Nangong Yaoling was, how could he not?

His reaction, however, surprised him and made him feel even more sympathetic toward the woman before him.

"It’s okay." Xia Xiaonuan could only bow her head and whisper.

At this moment, someone called Shaochen’s name. Xia Xiaonuan felt a bit lost but smiled and said, "You better go. You’re busy."

"Will you be okay alone?" he asked gently.

Xia Xiaonuan nodded.

Shaochen smiled at her, said goodbye, then turned away gracefully.

Once, it was this familiar gentle smile that muddled her senses.

Xia Xiaonuan looked at the tall back walking away. Her heart trembled severely.

It was definitely Mo. She wouldn’t mistake it. Even after nine years, she could still recognize him. His gaze, his smile, his every move and expression were engraved like a mark in her mind.

Xia Xiaonuan held the wineglass until his figure disappeared among the guests, then turned her head blankly.

She poured herself another glass of wine and drank it down. Not knowing how many glasses she had, Xia Xiaonuan staggered to the restroom.

As she walked out of the restroom, unexpectedly, she saw Shaochen smoking alone in a corner.

Xia Xiaonuan froze.

She stumbled forward, and Shaochen looked up just in time to see her.

He stepped forward to support her, "Are you okay?"

Taking advantage of the alcohol, Xia Xiaonuan directly fell into his arms. He had a faint green tea scent mixed with cigarette smoke, which smelled very nice. She was almost drunk.

"Why... why is it like this..." Xia Xiaonuan clung to him, mumbling.

"Sister-in-law, you’ve had too much to drink..." Shaochen said hoarsely, extinguishing his cigarette and helping her up: "I’ll take you to find Yaoling..."

As he spoke, he dragged her towards the elevator.

Xia Xiaonuan was dragged into the elevator, crying and laughing. "I’m not Xia Xiaonuan... I don’t want to be Xia Xiaonuan..." she murmured, reaching out to touch Shaochen’s face.

Clearly he was right in front of her, yet she couldn’t acknowledge him, which was really painful, very painful.

As Shaochen heard the name Xia Xiaonuan, his heart trembled slightly.

"Why not be Xia Xiaonuan? Is the name Xia Xiaonuan not good?" His voice suddenly became hoarse, filled with inexplicable sadness.
