Chapter 93: To Travel The Chaotic Lands (5)

The clamor ended, but the battlefield was still gripped with silence. The fighters around the wall had not even processed it yet, much less looked for the wounded.

They all lifted their gazes and looked at the newcomers. The villagers remained vigilant. Although they were technically saved by them, they were not aware of their attention.

In this world, one needed to be on guard not only for the monster attacks and dungeon breaks but also for the attacks of other espers with ill intentions.

The woman who held Lulu’s hands came forward and stood in the center of the villagers. It seemed her status was not low.

They looked at the distance.

"We can’t thank you enough for saving us. Please let us know if we can do something for you." The woman’s expression was tense, waiting for a response.

All the villagers were the same. It had to be known that while they were all fighting the monsters, they were not all espers. The woman was the only one with high combat power out of all of them.

To be able to kill all the monsters easily proved how powerful their savior was.

No one answered at first, making them anxious. Then slowly, three figures appeared in their sights, coming from the hill nearby. The two towered over the figure in between them, enclosing it in a protective manner.

While not very knowledgeable about the world, no one could mistake their relationship. The one between them must be the two espers’ guide.

Once they were almost in the vicinity of the wall, everyone tensed up. They all glanced at and scrutinized the newcomers’ faces. Suddenly, a subtle recognition washed over them.

Murmurs began to gather, and gradually, surprised expressions appeared in their faces. Some villagers even jumped in joy.

"SS-class!" A kid could not help but blurt out; his mother quickly covered his mouth. However, everyone was now in awe. Their vigilance crumbled, and they sighed in relief.

There was no mistake. The people in front of them were the two SS-class espers and their guide! 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Ayen knew that recognizing Khal and Devion was only a matter of time. As long as they travelled and met a few people, someone would surely recognize them.

Yet, why did he still want to show his face and even take the initiative to come into the village? They could have left, since the path they were taking did not need to pass by the village at all.

Ayen wanted Devion and Khal’s help to be seen. It was not much, and the two probably did not care about that, but Ayen had a certain desire that all their efforts should be known.

He already had this urge when he stayed in the forbidden zone. The two never stopped cleaning the monsters every day. Their efforts were not known, and it made him dissatisfied inside.

This world did not need to worry about the most dangerous forbidden zone spreading because of Khal and Devion. That was the truth.

Ayen did not want the world to take their presence for granted.

The two might not know his thoughts and intentions, but they still followed him.

The group of villagers dispersed, looking reluctant. However, everyone understood that they should not annoy them, and so they left.

"I’m sorry. This is already the most decent place in the village." The woman, who introduced herself as Genea, clasped her hands in apology. Unlike the others, she was still tense.

Facing the two SS-class espers, no espers would be able to control their emotions.

Beside her was Lulu.

Ayen sat silently in the chair, while Devion sat across from him. As for Khal, he stood in front of Genea.

"There’s no need for that. We’re only passing by," Khal answered in a neutral tone.

Ayen could not help but glance at him. When Khal spoke with his stoic expression, it emphasized his dominant features.

As a result, Genea and Lulu froze, their heartbeats speeding up anxiously. Ayen could not blame them. If Ayen had not known Khal, he would also be intimidated.

"Uh," Genea swallowed and composed herself. "If you need anything. You can call us and we’ll do our best to serve you." It was already good enough that her voice did not stumble.

Khal swept his eyes around them and was about to dismiss them when Ayen spoke.

"May I ask a few questions?"

He immediately caught the attention of all the people in the room.

Devion, who was unusually quiet, glanced at Khal and then nodded. He also turned to Genea and Lulu; he stood up and gestured for his seat.

"Sit here." Devion appeared indifferent; even his angelic face could not help ease the situation. Still, Genea held Lulu’s hand and went to the seat offered to her. She let Lulu sit while she stood by her side.

Strictly speaking, it was their house. However, the guests were truly powerful, warranting such treatment from them.

Ayen observed them. They should be a pair.

"May I ask a few questions?" He repeated his question since he had not gotten an answer.

Genea glanced at Khal and Devion, but the two did not voice any opinion and remained silent. She also noticed that the two lowered their presence, which made the pressure around them lessen somewhat.

Finally, Genea nodded.

"Please," she answered politely.

Ayen could not do anything about their anxiety around Khal and Devion; he could let the two leave, but why should he? And the two would surely not let him be alone in an unfamiliar place.

So, they were stuck with two intimidating presences standing behind Ayen. They were like eternal bodyguards, watching for any disrespectful actions against their master.

The two consciously focus on Ayen.

"I’m just curious."

One thing about this trip was broadening his horizons. Aside from the general structure of the world, Ayen was not familiar with the overall situation.

For example, this village surprised Ayen. He did not know that there were still small villages trying to survive in the wild. And he did not need to ask Khal and Devion to know that a lot of these villages could disappear silently.
