The X Guide-Chapter 128: Trust
Khal smiled seeing Devion’s excitement and motioned his hand as if saying, Go ahead.
Devion was too thrilled to finally show off in front of Ayen and ignored the usual Khal’s scamming modus. He did not care about being used to exploit a child either!
"Yes, a contract that will bind you to our guide. You need to listen to his words from now on. Only then can we allow you to continue to exist."
Devion then explained how it works to both Ayen and the child, Aegi. This was a completely new territory, and even the government was unaware.
He had no intention of spreading this method either. And as of now, Devion was the only one who could do it perfectly. Even Khal, despite trying for so many times, failed.
Khal only succeeded a handful of times, but only one monster survived after the contract with him. It was now one of the symbols of his organization, guarding their headquarters or something.
The contract also did not apply to all of the monsters from dungeons and the ones that breed on Earth. Until now, even Devion had yet to discover the reason.
Devion had no intention of fully exploring either; he was a combat esper at heart, and he never imagined spending his time at the laboratory.
He had never thought of contracting an anomaly before, simply because most did not have actual consciousness at all. Aegi was different.
He was an anomaly, but had a physical body and intelligence. What’s more, his soul still had traces of humanity. It was easier to persuade him to fully commit to the contract process.
Devion started to tell them the process and how to do it. However, it was fine if they could not comprehend them either, since Devion was the one who would initiate the process between them.
"For monsters, we always make them exhausted first." Devion wanted to say beating them until their last breath, but since Aegi was a child, he refrained from saying such words.
Liz, their usual ride in the forbidden zone was a bit different than the rest. They did not beat her up, but she was actually tamed by Khal first before Devion discovered the contract. This was also the reason Devion became aware of this process.
So, rather than saying Liz became tame because of the contract, she was Khal’s beloved pet. And contracts were only accidentally signed.
"Ayen, hold Aegi’s hand," Devion said, turning to Ayen, then he added. "Don’t worry, Aegi won’t be harmed. This is also a form of protection for him."
Devion was sincere in his words. The contract itself did not have an obvious effect. For monsters, they became tame towards their contractors, but there was no real change in their personalities.
As for saying it was also a protection. He meant it. Once Aegi was contracted with Ayen, then he was considered Ayen’s possession. Khal and Devion had no qualms about protecting him then.
Ayen held Aegi’s hand, which was trembling. He slowly caressed the back of his hand to comfort himself.
"I’m not really against it," Ayen spoke, knowing the implications of this contract. Rather than guaranteeing that Aegi would not harm humanity, it was more about giving Ayen another gift.
Although Ayen did not know how Aegi could help him combat-wise.
Ayen looked at Devion, then at Khal, and back at Devion.
"I trust you."
Both Devion and Khal were taken aback. They did not expect Ayen to suddenly say those words. The two know that the word ’trust’ was not easy to utter, especially from Ayen.
Slowly, the two smiled. There was no need for words; their gazes alone conveyed their emotions.
They were glad that Ayen began to trust them. It went both ways, actually. The two also began trusting Ayen the moment he finally entered their world.
Their world, which no one could enter. Ayen was the first, and he would be the last.
Ayen’s lips also curled slightly, and then he averted his eyes. Khal and Devion’s gaze became heated enough that his ears suddenly itched for some reason.
It was suddenly hot too.
Ayen turned to Aegi, who was watching them with his round eyes. Only then did he realize that Aegi was not shaking anymore; the wariness in his eyes decreased significantly.
Aegi was watching them with curiosity. His eyes shifted from Devion and Khal before shifting back to Ayen. He blinked cutely and held Ayen’s hand tightly.
"You," Aegi whispered to Ayen, "are special, big brother."
Ayen’s eyes widened slightly. He did not know why Aegi’s attitude suddenly changed and why he said those words.
Aegi’s words might have been a whisper, but Khal and Devion could hear it just fine. Their eyes became thoughtful, looking at Aegi.
"You’re right." Devion grinned kindly at the child; his face was blinding enough that even Aegi blankly stared at him. "Big brother Ayen is special to us—extremely special."
Ayen bit his lips and lowered his gaze. The heat on his ears seemed to spread to the back of his neck.
Khal glanced at Ayen as he licked his lips, eyes darkening. Devion was not so obvious, but he leaned his body a little more towards Ayen.
When Ayen flinched, the smile on Devion’s lips widened.
"Now, let’s start?" His voice was hoarser than expected. Khal propped his chin and watched them with a smirk on his lips.
His angel enjoyed teasing Ayen so much. He was enjoying it too. Ayen’s reactions were becoming so obvious, and Khal suppressed his desire to bite those flushed cheeks.
Ayen still found his skills to be able to hide his emotions so well. Despite the heat surrounding him, he managed to nod his head.
The cute little Aegi also nodded his head; his eyes suddenly glimmered as though he found something interesting. Devion smiled at him, and Aegi also blushed.
"Are you ready?" Devion asked the child, who nodded his head cutely.
By his appearance alone, it was obvious that he was not that scared of them anymore. This might be because the alarm that Khal and Devion exuded softened significantly after Ayen’s words and reactions.
