The X Guide-Chapter 118: The Most Imperfect Anomaly (3)
None of them moved from their current position. This arrangement must have become one of their favorites so far. Ayen played with Khal’s and Devion’s fingers as the two discussed what the possible countermeasures to their situation were.
Ayen only listened; he was not good at combat, much less figuring out the solution to this anomaly.
Devion told Khal what he and Ayen encountered, which was the two A-class dungeons.
Khal seemed unfazed by the fact that the government had yet to send at least one S-class esper to oversee the situation. He already expected it.
"Are we in a dungeon? Or was everything created by a mana disturbance?" Devion was not sure.
He felt like the answer was the combination of both. Khal seemed to have the same assumptions as he did.
"How can we break through? " Devion’s voiced the same question in Ayen’s mind.
What made the breakthrough point? Was there something like a ’boss’ they needed to defeat? Ayen was not that familiar with dungeon raiding, but he still spent a few days accompanying Devion and Khal, clearing dungeons back in the forbidden zone.
He only knew the simplest and most common methods. This place was a first for him. It was unlike any dungeon he had encountered so far.
"We have to check something first."
Hearing his words, the two quickly understood that he already had a plan in mind, but he wanted to confirm it first. Devion was used to it.
Khal was not as reckless as he was. Sometimes, even if the victory were already in hand, Khal would still make sure that none were overlooked.
That was the most terrifying aspect of him. Khal could easily overpower anyone, but he always chose the most efficient and perfect way to win.
The trio did not waste any time and set off. The one behind the steering wheel was Khal with Ayen in the passenger seat. Devion was in the back seat.
This was to ensure that even if someone attacked them on either side, Ayen stayed protected.
As they went somewhere in Khal’s lead, chaos already erupted behind them. Ayen, which current identity was Aurelle, was being sought by the family.
They found out the bleeding Auxia in the dining room. At least, he did not tell them his wound was Ayen’s doing. However, everyone already suspected Ayen.
His mother doted on Aurelle and simply wanted to find Ayen, as she was worried about his condition. Seeing that no one cared about him, Auxia threw a huge tantrum and was now under confinement.
They went to find Ayen in the association, but he was not there. Aside from the search team sent by Aurelle’s mother, Julius was also trying to find Ayen.
Of course, with malicious intent. Unfortunately or fortunately for him, he was too insignificant for Ayen to care. Ayen also considered everyone as already dead, and so he did not bother to avenge Aurelle either.
Back at the institute, there was also an uproar. The bodies in the morgue were discovered. The man who slapped Khal’s current body was dead.
But his colleague only fainted, and he woke up soon after. He recounted what he saw, and that the B-class esper, who was pronounced dead, had suddenly become alive.
Everyone was in disbelief. After all, resurrection was something even in the current era of superpowers was merely in theory and more of a fantasy.
They began to frantically search for the B-class esper that it even alerted the higher-ups in charge in this yellow zone.
The town had suddenly become alive and began searching for the trio.
They did not have any idea of this chaos, but even if they knew, they would not care.
"That confirms it," Khal muttered, looking up at the floating barrier preventing them from going outside the boundary.
Ayen stared at the boundary; his mind was finally free from his questions. This was not the real past but an anomaly conjured by a mana disturbance or the dungeon.
Devion also did not have much expression. He firmly believed that they were not transported in the past.
"What should we do now?" Devion asked, then he paused. He looked up and shifted back to Khal as he leaned closer to his ear. "Are we being monitored?"
His breath brushed against Khal’s ear. And their bodies were technically not their own, and Devion was taller than the current Khal.
Khal stared at Devion and saw the familiar gaze from those eyes, which quickly put a smile to his lips.
"It’s fine," Khal shrugged, appearing more casual. "I already figured out something."
Both Ayen’s and Devion’s attention was caught by his words. Ayen was also pulled to get closer by Khal and Devion.
Ayen blinked but let himself be pulled. Devion chuckled and wrapped an arm around his waist. "So obedient?"
Ayen scrunched his nose but did not say anything. Devion and Khal chuckled at his reaction. These days, Ayen was becoming more and more expressive.
Well, he even laughed not long ago. They hoped it continued to be so.
"Don’t tease him," Khal reprimanded Devion, but his voice sounded so tender as always. Devion smiles, not responding this time.
That was Khal’s cue to continue. The space between them was nonexistent, as though afraid that the observer might hear. However, it was more that they wanted to be closer and nothing else.
Ayen knew it too. And he liked skinship particularly more.
"I noticed that the observer is weak. It isn’t that it knew how to hide its presence, but that it has a faint existence to begin with."
Khal did not have any slight sense of crisis. The danger purely stemmed from being confined in this place for a long time. Simply speaking, it has something to do with Devion’s situation more.
He looked up, and a light flickered in his eyes. The observer retreated, as though scared.
Well, it was indeed afraid.
"It’s weak. And our arrival seems to be unexpected to it too."
Khal was not certain what kind of being the observer was. Was it a new consciousness of a dungeon? Or a consciousness of a mana disturbance source?
If so, it was truly an anomaly, unheard of.
It was dangerous and a possible threat once it matured. For now, Khal could not see a malicious intent coming from it.
It merely observed them... curiously observing them like a kid.
