Chapter 262: Chapter 262

[SAMANTHA’s Point of View]

I never wanted to trust the stranger, but we had no other choice. We couldn’t let Richard Bennette take me and the twins.

[Look. There’s something on the walls!] Killian said as he looked around, pointing at the strange patterns that suddenly illuminated when we stepped inside the cave.

“Mom, the patterns look the same as our birthmarks!” Diana commented as her eyes widened in excitement. The cave started to get bright enough to run inside it as deep as we could without using our wolf vision.

[What is this place?] Dominic’s voice was sharp and full of suspicion when he asked Rey. [I’ve been patrolling the whole Black Forest for so many months now, and I have never seen this cave before.]

“This is a secret passage from when the war started between the Royal Clan and the creatures of this forest, a very long time ago, Alpha of the Silver Crescent pack,” Rey started explaining as we all followed him. I used my werewolf sense to check if he was lying, but his heart was steady as well as his breathing, despite him running. I glanced at my husband and confirmed to him that Rey was telling the truth.

[So this place was like the hideout of the Royal Clan before?] Killian asked with curiosity. [I had never heard any news that the Royal Clan had a dispute with the creatures of the Black Forest. This is a despised land, and no Clan or Alpha dared to claim it. Why was the Royal Clan interested in the Black Forest?]

We all waited for Rey to answer, but it seemed he had succumbed to his own thoughts or was probably thinking carefully about what he would answer us.

“Are they still behind us?” Devon asked.

“That’s impossible. No creatures of the Black Forest can get inside this cave,” Rey answered, and his pace started to slow down, and so did ours. I started to understand why Dominic felt suspicious about the Queen’s guard, but then he spoke again. “I came here to help you find and destroy the source of all the evil things that are happening here in Black Forest.”

[If there’s an evil creature here that needs to be killed, that’s Richard Bennette for sure.” Dominic spat harshly, not even holding back his strong resentment at the old man who betrayed him and the Silver Crescent pack. [We should start with him if we need to clean this place of all evil creatures.]

[Well, I don’t say I am against that idea because Richard Bennette is really a huge pain in the *ss.] Killian agreed, almost laughing.

I gave Killian a warning look to never take all these things lightly, and he cleared his throat as the smile on his face disappeared.

“You and your kids are the key to ending all of this.” Rey stared at me, and I could tell how many battles he had already fought based on the worn look on his face. “We have to take all of you to safety, and this is the only place here that the cursed beasts, the Black Claws, and the Shadow werewolves cannot enter.”

[What do you want from us, Rey? You told me that you know what and where the source of the curse is. Then tell us everything, and we will destroy it right away.] I said to him with despair in my voice. [We have to get rid of it while we still have time.] 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Devon and Diana jumped out of my back, with Purple following them. I still couldn’t believe that the pup they adopted since we moved here to Silver Crescent was a werewolf. A boy. Now I understand why I was so desperate to save him. Because Purple and Devon had a connection like a sacred oath of intertwined lives. They were brothers not by blood but by bond.

And that’s why in my nightmares, it was Devon whom I saw being caught by the Black Claws instead of Purple. Because their bond was telling me that if one of them died, a part of someone’s soul would die too, and I would never let that happen to my son.

Dominic and Rey discussed something about the war between the Royal Clan and the Black Claws while I watched the kids study the walls and the patterns.

When Diana moved to touch the glowing thing, my heart almost stopped.

[Diana! No!]

But it was too late. When my little girl’s finger made contact with the pattern on the wall, it glowed even brighter, making Dominic, Killian, and me flinch, wary of what would happen next. Rey, on the other hand, didn’t look alarmed but stayed standing still while staring at the shocked look on Devon and Diana’s faces.

“You have to train your powers so you can take control of them very well,” Rey said to my twins after he studied that surprised and amazed look in their eyes. “You will need them when the time comes that war is inevitable to happen in your pack.

[They are just children. There is no way they will be part of this war or any war. I will never let that happen!] Dominic retorted to Rey.

But thinking about Rey’s words, he was right. [We can’t just run away and hide all the time, Dominic. The Queen’s guard is right. We have to eventually teach Devon and Diana how to fight and defend themselves. They need to know how to protect each other if we are not there to protect them.]

[I can train them if that’s okay with you.] Killian smiled and lifted his paw as he volunteered. [I used to train a lot of kids in my pack.]

Dominic threw him a threatening glare as he hissed, [We don’t need someone from outside the pack to meddle with any of my family’s affairs.]

[That is very cold of you, Dominic. You know that?] Killian tauntingly smiled at my husband instead, making Dominic more annoyed.

“Sir, Rey, is Mommy’s Mommy a powerful she-wolf?” Diana asked the Queen’s guard with a curious smile.

Rey sweetly smiled at my little girl as he nodded. His eyes were soft when he replied. “The late Queen Luna was the best Luna of this land.”

I froze when he said things about my mother.

All of a sudden, I felt so confused. Angry.
