Chapter 288: Chapter 244: Sky-mist Canyon (Part 2)

Maya, with a blank look, wiped her face, glanced at her filthy dress and the mud all over her body, and stared daggers at Luna Sutton, screaming, "You did it on purpose, didn’t you?"

Luna Sutton blinked, looked innocently at Maya, and said, "It fell off by itself. What’s it got to do with me? Who told you to dodge so slowly?"

Maya’s face turned ashen with anger, and she turned to glare at Wolf Fang beside her, "Really useless, all other males know how to protect females, but you stand there like a block of wood."

Seeing her boots covered in mud, not knowing what she was thinking, she wiped them on Wolf Fang, and seeing they were much cleaner, she nodded with satisfaction.

Even the mud splashed on her beast skin skirt was wiped clean on Wolf Fang.

While her sister Mia was alive, she always suppressed her true nature and lived cautiously.

After Mia’s death, her true nature was almost completely exposed, and she was even more unpleasant than her sister Mia.

Now she was openly with Wolf Fang.

However, she was no longer gentle and attentive as before, but rather bossy.

It would be a lie to say Wolf Fang didn’t regret it; had he known Maya’s true nature was this unbearable, he would never have had the affair with Maya in the first place.

He didn’t move, allowing Maya to wipe the mud onto him.

It’s not that he wasn’t angry, but if he dared resist, he might not "have any meat" for the next month.

"So dirty..."

Maya disdainfully shook her hand and suddenly noticed the three wolf pups in Luna Sutton’s arms, unable to help but sarcastically remark, "Some people really know how to enjoy life, giving birth and then leaving the pups for the tribe to raise..."

"Shut up."

Zeke Veridian, unable to tolerate it any longer, swept a green glance over, slicing off a lock of her hair with a wind blade from his fingertips, "If you keep making noise, I’ll throw you out of the canyon to feed the vultures."

Internally, he couldn’t help but think, Maya wasn’t like this before; every time he saw her, she was very quiet or secretly hiding in some corner and crying, seeming very timid and even speaking quietly.

Now she’s completely changed, becoming more and more detestable, even more so than her sister Mia.

It’s just that her true nature was suppressed for too long, and once released, her behavior naturally worsened.

Maya instantly fell silent, shrinking her neck and hiding behind Wolf Fang.

Saffron Vance shook her head speechlessly, quietly distancing herself from Maya, and instead approached Luna Sutton, whispering as they walked.

The internal terrain of Sky-mist Canyon was complex, with dense ancient trees towering up, and thick vines intertwining into a web, blocking most sunlight, making the canyon dimly lit and adding a sense of mystery.

The Old Priest, holding a Bone Staff, walked along tapping the ground, as if searching for something.

Lyle Sutton, however, frowned deeply with vigilance, scanning the surroundings for any suddenly appearing beasts.

Just then, there was a commotion at the front of the team.

"There’s a swamp!"

Rhys Blackwood’s snake tail coiled around two cubs nearly falling in, "Everyone follow my path."

Luna Sutton stood on tiptoe to see, catching sight of a blackish mud pit bubbling amid the fog, its stench making heads spin.

Several Old Beastmen were probing the way with long wooden sticks, the dry branches making a "glug" sound as they struck the swamp.

"Luna, hold the pups and come up; I’ll fly you over..."

Corbin Crowley suddenly came over, transforming into an Ancient Silver Moon Wolf, a third eye growing on his brow, bone wings sprouting from his back, exuding the aura of an Eighth-ranking Beastman.

Such a form and strength made the entire Wolf Tribe envious. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Maya stared wide-eyed at Corbin Crowley’s imposing Ancient Silver Moon Wolf form, thinking to herself how nice it would be if he were her Beast Husband.

Flying through the skies and the earth with her, the thought alone was delightful.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t, but was Luna Sutton’s Beast Husband, which made her eyes turn red with jealousy, "Just lucky, that’s all..."

Before she could finish speaking.

Zeke Veridian suddenly whisked past her, his green eyes slanting towards her, "If I hear you gossip again—"

His fingertip wind blade cut off another strand of Maya’s hair.

Saffron Vance laughed, whispering to Luna Sutton, "Doesn’t she look like she’s been nibbled by a dog, a piece of sod?"

Luna Sutton looked at Maya’s jaggedly cut hair and couldn’t help but laugh, "She really does."

Maya stomped her foot in anger, ready to retort.

When she was tossed onto Wolf Fang’s back, who had shifted to his true form, he spoke in human tongue: "Stop it, there’s a swamp ahead; I’ll take you over."

Luna Sutton, carrying the three wolf pups, climbed onto Corbin Crowley’s back, his silver-white bone wings unfurled, glimmering coldly in the morning light.

The three wolf cubs excitedly pawed at Corbin Crowley’s fur, making "awoo" calls from their throats, clearly thrilled.

Corbin Crowley’s bone wings stirred the air, carrying Luna Sutton and the three wolf cubs over the swamp.

The wet, chilly mist hit their faces, and the three little furballs clung excitedly to their father’s mane, their small tails spinning like a whirlwind.

"Hold on tight."

Corbin Crowley, speaking human tongue, glanced down at the dense white bones floating in the mud pit below.

She narrowed her eyes, holding the three wolf cubs tightly in her arms.

Then suddenly noticed the eldest, Kael, trying to crawl towards the edge of the bone wings, frightening her as she seized him by the scruff: "Little brat, do you have a death wish?"

"Awoo!"

Kael, pitifully, retracted its paw, turned to gnaw on the bone chain around her wrist, emitting "crunch crunch" sounds, but couldn’t bite through it.

Luna Sutton amusingly rubbed its head, "Stop biting. This is the token of love your father gave me."

As she spoke, Corbin Crowley had already flown them across the swamp, landing steadily on the other side.

Malachi Arcanus and several single Beastmen transformed into their true forms, running back and forth across the swamp, weaving vines into makeshift bridges for the other Beastmen to cross.

Zeke Veridian led the other females, along with the old, weak, and ill, slowly across the swamp.

Once everyone safely crossed the swamp, the group continued onward.

Along the way, they encountered many dangers, from venomous snakes and ferocious beasts to hidden toxic mists.

Fortunately, with Rhys Blackwood, the poison expert, they could always resolve crises in time.

The Wolf Tribe’s team twisted and turned through Sky-mist Canyon, walking for nearly three hours before finally finding a relatively safe spot.

This was a valley surrounded by steep cliffs on all sides, with a clear lake within, its water as green as jade, and ancient trees towering overhead, blotting out the sky and sun.

"Let’s settle here for now."

Lyle Sutton surveyed the surrounding environment and continued, "This place backs up against the cliff, with a swamp ahead to block those Phoenix Clan varmints, they’ll lose a layer of skin even if they find us."

He turned to the priest: "Old friend, what do you think?"

The priest was poking the ground with his bone staff, looked up and squinted at the surroundings upon hearing this, "The terrain isn’t bad, it’s just a bit damp. But—"

He suddenly grinned, revealing three yellow teeth, "There are fish in the lake!"

Everyone sighed in relief at those words; water meant survival.

"Don’t just stand there!"

Lyle Sutton waved his big hand, "The males go chop wood for shelters, and the females gather things to start a fire!"
