The Whole Internet is Shipping Me with My Ex-Boyfriend-Chapter 388: Boyfriends Should Behave Too
Quan Jin lifted his eyelids to look at her.
She had fallen asleep again.
He leaned back a bit, not wanting to disturb her rest, and accompanied her in slumber.
The car was silent inside, while outside, dawn had broken. More and more pedestrians filled the old streets, and the shops were opening up to greet a new day. Yet, there wasn’t much shouting; everyone queued quietly for their breakfast. Occasionally, the sound of payments being made by scanning QR codes could be heard.
This is what a day in the life of ordinary people looks like, bustling from morning to night, busy yet mundane.
Quan Jin only took a light nap. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Even though he hadn’t slept all night, his senses were sharp. After lightly dozing for not long, at most an hour... perhaps not even an hour, he was awakened by a noise.
The moment he opened his eyes, Quan Jin felt as if he had woken up in his bed at home.
The sound was turned off.
A noise came from beside him as the car door opened—Gu Yuan had gotten out.
In the first second, Quan Jin wasn’t fully awake; in the next second, after seeing Gu Yuan get out of the car, he grabbed her wrist and asked, "Where are you going?"
The red veins in Gu Yuan’s eyes hadn’t receded; they were even more pronounced than before. She had only rested for forty-five minutes and needed to head to the office for a meeting at eight-twenty that morning, which she had to attend in person and could not be delayed.
She said, "I’m going to drive. Where do you want to go? I’ll give you a ride."
Quan Jin: "I’m not going anywhere; it’s you. Where are you going?"
Gu Yuan: "I’m going to work, obviously. I’m not as leisurely as my boyfriend."
Quan Jin was at a loss for words.
However, he wasn’t angry. Looking into her bloodshot eyes, he asked the question in his mind, "You didn’t just miss last night’s sleep, right?"
Gu Yuan blinked, then responded with a hum.
She let go of Quan Jin’s hand, closed the car door, walked around the front of the car, and opened the driver’s side door.
Once she was inside, the engine started.
The navigation was set to Yingcan Century. He now thought she worked at Yingcan and was still an employee there; once he went off to handle his affairs, she would leave Yingcan and return to the Gu Group.
On the way to Yingcan, Quan Jin didn’t bother Gu Yuan.
After a ten-minute drive, they arrived at Yingcan Century. Gu Yuan slowly drove the car into the underground garage.
Quan Jin got out of the car before her. After Gu Yuan stepped out, he blocked her between the car door. His tall figure completely filled her view.
Gu Yuan looked up at him without speaking, silently asking with her expression: What’s wrong now?
"I asked you earlier if you hadn’t just missed last night’s rest."
"Hmm?" Gu Yuan didn’t understand what he meant.
"What exactly are you busy with?" he asked softly, as if struggling to suppress some emotion.
"Work," Gu Yuan replied without avoiding the subject, her voice faint, "dashing through the storms, caught between wakefulness and intoxication, it’s all just for the sake of making a living. What else could I be busy with?"
"Gu Xueli."
"Hmm?"
"Are you..."
"Am I what?"
Quan Jin was already feeling guilty but tried his best to conceal it, not fully displaying it on his face for her to see. He said, "Is it all because of me?"
Gu Yuan remained silent.
Her reaction seemed as if she didn’t understand what he meant.
After more than a minute of silence, Quan Jin waited for her answer. Gu Yuan gave a slight hum, still in a faint tone: "Yingcan has a high turnover of new employees lately, and there are plenty of menial tasks. I’m at the mid-level, so naturally, many responsibilities fall on me. I’m not that free."
The words were spoken lightly and nonchalantly.
Just describing her work, that’s all.
She didn’t seem to be overly exhausted.
Quan Jin sighed at himself for not knowing what heartache felt like until today. It felt like a needle piercing his heart, painful but not to the extent of devastating despair.
He thought, if countless needles were densely piercing his heart, that pain would be comparable to being flayed alive, unbearably intense.
At this time, there weren’t many cars coming into the parking garage. It was so empty that Quan Jin could hear his own heartbeat; he knew it was somewhat chaotic.
Seeing her bloodshot eyes again, he spoke with a slightly hoarse voice, "How long has it been since you last rested?"
"Hmm?" Gu Yuan’s eyes carried a smile.
He asked again, "With all this busyness, how long has it been since you’ve rested?"
This question was a good one. Gu Yuan thought for a moment, probably calculating quickly in her mind. Once she had it figured out, she answered him, "It’s been about forty-five hours without rest, proportional to the time I rested earlier, just with different units..."
Quan Jin tightly pressed his lips together, forming a straight line.
She paused before continuing, "It’s alright; I just rested for forty-five minutes earlier. That should count for something."
