(From Demetrius’s Perspective)

"No, you cannot meet him. The doctor said no one is to take near him as it can worsen his condition. Only I and his mommy are allowed," I said to King Ford, who had come to meet Dion, after hearing about Dion’s condition.

"I can at least see from afar, can’t I?"

I considered for a moment. "Alright," I said. "Come with me."

I took him to the garden, from where the balcony of my bedroom was visible. Blue was there with Dion and her cat, watching one of the plants on the balcony.

"He doesn’t look so good. He must be really sick," he said.

"He looks a lot better than before. He is crying less now, especially now that we figured out something he likes," I said.

"He likes plants, trees… I don’t know why, but he just loves them a little too much. He won’t leave go to anyone other than his mother. Now, all day long, Dion would watch the trees in the garden from the balcony or the house plants with the cat and Blue and eat and nap," I added.

"His fever has gone down?"

"Not exactly. His temperature has never risen too much. But it still is a fever."

"Yeah, that’s the type of fever that has spread this time," he said.

"What about Blue and King Demetrius? Blue is pregnant, so…"

"Yes, it would have been better if she could stay away, but Dion is a child. He needs his mother. Truth be told, we could have made it work even if Blue stayed away from Dion for a few days. I could take care of him. But she would not do it."

"Knowing Blue, she surely would not. But I am just worried. Pregnant women are rather vulnerable to diseases."

"I am worried about her too. She can’t even rest, because Dion will cry if she puts him down. She barely gets any sleep."

Yesterday, Dion finally did not cry when I took him, which was a good sign. Blue used that time to sleep.

Doctor Dimitri said Dion was better than before, but it would still take some time for him to recover completely. Both Blue and I had been very scared.

"Dion is lucky to have Blue as his mother," he said.

"Yes, he is," I nodded as I watched her. We all were lucky to have her. I had never believed in luck, but truly, I also thought that I was lucky to have her as my wife. Dion was lucky to have her as his mother.

After King Ford left, I went back to my bedroom. He had got some toys and clothes for Dion, as well as some books. I was not sure what was the point of reading books to a four-month-old, but Blue said it was a very thoughtful gift.

"It doesn’t matter if he will understand or not. The main point is talking to him and raising a good habit. He will hear more of your and my voice. He will recognize it more. Besides, he will one day start liking books. There is nothing wrong with liking books.

I think it is one of the best habits ever," she said.

"I don’t understand. We can just talk to him if the point of reading books is making him hear our voice. Don’t misunderstand. I am not against reading books. I just don’t see the point clearly," I said.

"You know this well, Dem, that both you and I are the silent type of parents. We talk very less. We often joke among ourselves or talk to him, but that’s very less. Some parents sing to their children, recite poems and even make funny noises. But you and I… We are not like that. We are the serious type of parents.

That’s why reading books is something we can do as we cannot do the other things," she pointed out.

"I was looking for some books for him in the library the other day. But there are no books suitable for him. I think we need to make another section in the library for him," she added while feeding Dion and flipping through the pages of the books that King Ford gave.

"Or maybe we can add a bookshelf in his room. I am also worried about his sibling’s room. Should we get them to share one? I am not so sure. What if one of them doesn’t like it?" she continued. "I am already at two months.

There are just seven months to go. We cannot just wait. We need to make a decision."

’Seven months is not a short time, you know that, right?’

"After Dion gets better, we will talk about it, okay? Right now, my head is not working that well," I said.

"Yeah, I know how you feel. My head isn’t working either. Thankfully, I have finished making the eye beforehand," she said.

"You haven’t told me when."

"I told you. It was on the same day as the banquet. When I told you about what I talked to Cyan about, I said all these things."

"But you were at the banquet the whole time, Blue. I’m pretty sure…"

"Dem, I am not dumb. I can at least sneak out of a few people’s eyes if I want to," she said.

Actually, all this confusion was because I did not understand how this power of hers worked. That evening, she had not been gone for a long time. She went to feed Dion and came back pretty quickly. How did she finish it in such a short time? Why then? Exactly what could she have figured out for her to do it right then?

Why could she not do it beforehand if only a little work remained? I truly was confused. And no matter what she said, the confusion was not cleared.

"It’s not that hard to understand," she said.

"I am just dumb then."

"Dem…"

"I am not being sarcastic, Blue. I truly don’t understand."

"I just figured out which form of my power to use. Multiple forms could be used to do a single task, which was the case when I was making the eye. It is hard to figure out which form to use and when. I know it sounds weird, but that’s the case. Even I don’t understand this thing completely.

I mean, it’s kind of like- I understand and I don’t understand- my understanding is something in the middle of these two."

I sighed. "You also refused to talk about how… Azure controlled your mind."

"Almost, Dem. He could not do it entirely," she said. "If he could, I wouldn’t have been here, feeding our son and talking to you. How to describe it…? It was like there was a voice, his voice, giving me commands in my head. I knew it was wrong.

I knew I was not supposed to, but my mind felt obliged to following him. It was like a fight against myself. And you know, I wouldn’t have been able to defeat him if it was not for…"

"For what?"

"That time, all of a sudden, there was a light. The sky and everywhere was dark, but a thin line of light suddenly appeared. I don’t know what it was, but I did not do it. I think that light affected Azure. He might have, although I never admitted it before, got a little distracted. The distraction was very little, but it gave me a little time and it worked as an amplifier.

I could use my power, my real power that time."

"There was no one else, you said. Only you and him, until that shithead threw a knife at you."

"Yes, and there truly wasn’t anyone else."

"You might have done it unconsciously. There is a chance."

"No, Dem. I did not do it. Not consciously, not unconsciously. It was not me. It was someone else," I said. "Azure knows who it is."

"You are saying there was someone helping you? But why?"

"It can’t be one of our mages. It was not Luc. I asked Luc where he was and he said he did not use any power like that near that place," she said. "Do you think there is someone more powerful who was helping me?"

"More powerful? Blue, there is no one who is more powerful than Azure or you. The most powerful one is Azure and then, you. There is no one and nothing in between," I said. "And the question isn’t about who is helping you. It is why.

Why would they help you? I do not trust in goodwill."

"I don’t trust in goodwill too much either. But I believe there are people who want to do good for others. However, in this case, I am also wondering why. Maybe that mage also has some kind of advantage."

"Everyone hates your damn father. It won’t be any surprise if it’s because of that."
