The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 69: One Of A Kind
Lady Gisella looked at the Princess in surprise.
"Don’t look at me like Lady Gisella. I am not joking. I want to know what will happen if they know I am injured?" Princess Eleanor asked in a soft tone as if she was eager to know the answer.
"They will ask the Grand Duke to be responsible for it." Lady Gisella said as she looked outside of the carriage. "They would ask the escort to take responsibility."
Princess Eleanor smiled as if she was expecting it. "Anyways, the Lady was telling me why are all of them wearing a mask?" Princess Eleanor wanted to know. She was eager as it was an unusual thing to ask the knights to wear a mask.
"The Emperor does not tell the Grand Duke. Even though he is his nephew the bond between them is weak. So when the Emperor asked the Grand Duke to send the knights there he refused."
"The Grand Duke refused?" Princess Eleanor raised her eyebrows in confusion. She could not understand where this was leading.
"Yes, there are many houses in the Empire that believed that the Grand Duke should be the Emperor. If his father would not voluntarily give up the throne he would have been the Crown Prince now. But the Grand Duke refused. He does not want the throne, so he thought if he gets involved with all this, then it might not be good for him."
"So he refused?"
Lady Gisella nodded her head. "Yes, but the Emperor trusts his powers. He is the only man who could guarantee the safety of the Princesses, and when the temple requested the same the Grand Duke could not refuse. So it was decided that the escorts would wear masks to hide their identity. It was the Crown Prince’s suggestion which could not be ignored."
"Crown Prince?" Princess Eleanor asked as she raised her eyebrows. Although she was here to be a candidate for the Crown Princess she did not have a good impression of the man.
The Crown Prince was known to be a player. A man who enjoyed the company of the ladies. And for him to suggest such a thing was beyond her understanding.
"No one knows what goes around in his mind, but it was an order and everyone had to adhere to it." Lady Gisella said as she shook her head. There was irritation in her tone as if she was not happy with it as well. "We were sent along with the escort to make sure that the Princesses’ needs are taken care of."
Princess Eleanor nodded her head as she listened to Lady Gisella’s words. Her mind was filled with more questions.
What type of person was the Grand Duke? He was a man who could defeat everyone, a living hell. But was he really such a man?
Princess Eleanor looked at Lady Gisella; she knew that the Lady belonged to House Beaumont. And whenever Lady Gisella talked about the Grand Duke there was the respect with a tint of fear in her gaze.
And now the Crown Prince also was a mystery. Princess Eleanor could not wrap her head around the fact that would the Crown Prince ask them all to wear a mask? What would they give an imitation to the knights indicating the family? Why did the seal look so familiar to her?
"Were the seals made by the Emperor?" Princess Eleanor asked as she smiled, "They looked new. Their shine did not fade."
"They were specially made for this. Every seal has a small marking showing that they belong to the Royal family." Lady Gisella smiled. "They are one of a kind."
"One of a kind?" Princess Eleanor thought but she did not say anything. Her mind was trying to place the pieces of her hazy memories together.
"Princess," Lady Gisella said softly when she observed that princess Eleanor was in a daze, "I wanted to ask something."
Princess Eleanor’s eyes widened for a brief second but she nodded her head. She was a little surprised that lady Gisella decided to ask her something straightforwardly. It was very unlike her.
"How does the Princess feel about Sir Kit?" Lady Gisella asked. Her mind was focused on Princess ELnaor as she tried to get a positive response.
Lady Gisella was getting irritated thinking about things in her mind. She did not want to guess anymore and wanted a truthful answer. Although she had tried to warn the Princess several times, but this was the first time when Lady Gisella took this situation into her hand. She wanted to know the truth and she was not ready to compromise.
"What is there to feel?" Princess Eleanor giggled, "Is Lady Gisella trying to tell me that I should stay away from Sir Kit like?"
"I cannot interfere in this matter, and I have learned that both of your personal lives belong to you both. I have no right to interfere in it."
"And yet you decided to ask this question?" Lady Gisella curled her lips. The smirk was playful but her gaze was sharp. "Isn’t that hypocrisy?"
Lady Gisella swallowed. Princess Lenaor reminded her of her master and that terrified her. "It is my curious mind. I know that I should not be asking this question but my mind cannot stop itself. I know that the princess is well aware of her position. The Crown Princess selection will be days away."
"Days away if the prophecy comes. What happens if the prophecy is late?" Princess Eleanor raised her eyebrows. She could see the doubt in Lady Gisella’s eyes as she shook her head, "Anyway, Sir Kit is my escort and I am well away from my position here."
Lady Gisella nodded her head but she did not believe Princess Eleanor’s words. How could she when she saw both of them staring at one another in a daze?
Princess Eleanor looked outside as the carriage fell into silence. She could see Sir Kit looking in her direction from time to time.
Princess Eleanor’s mind was a mess as she told herself, ’He is my escort. My escort till the time we reach the temple.’
