Chapter 62: Traced

Princess Eleanor moved back as she created some distance between them. Her eyes were tinted with an unknown emotion as she bit her lips.

"The people that attacked me should be the same that attacked the other Princess." Princess Eleanor said in a small voice.

"It is a possibility," Sir Kit said as he looked at the Princess. Even in the dim light, he could see her eyes blinking innocently. Princess Eleanor’s skin was glowing as it looked like silk. Sir Kit wanted to lean forward and touch it.

He felt like no matter what, the feeling of touching her skin would be addictive. Sir Kit shook his head as he tried to push the thoughts back. He could not do that and Sir Kit was well aware of it.

"I want to tell you something." Princess Eleanor managed her thoughts before she said the words. The emotions that were about to come out were overflowing but Princess Eleanor knew that this was not the right time.

Princess Eleanor straightened her back as she continued, "When we were attacked I knew that it might be from an enemy country. The competition here is fierce. Even if the prophecy says one thing, human nature is filled with greed. And being a crown Princess is the greatest temptation in itself."

"But you are not affected by that temptation. Princess Eleanor does not want that title," Sir Kit said with a smirk.

Princess Eleanor’s eyes flip[ped at his face. Although Sir Kit wore a mask, his lips were tempting in themselves.

"But I am greedy." Princess Eleanor whispered before she continued, "What I want to say is," Princess Eleanor looked down at her fingers. "I saw some of the people that I think I know. I don’t know how to tell this to you but to be honest I am embarrassed to even say it."

Princess Eleanor took a deep breath. It was not easy to tell someone about your weakness. Although Princess Eleanor never considered it a weakness, but a torture she had to endure. But still, Princess Eleanor was hesitant before saying that to Sir Kit.

"I think my Uncle wants me dead." Princess Eleanor managed to say. The hesitation in her voice lasted for a few seconds before she continued in a stiff tone. "Or someone from the Empire wants me dead. I cannot pinpoint but I have my doubts. Can Sir Kit investigate it?"

Sir Kit looked at the Princess. He knew that it must have been hard for her. He had personally seen how difficult it is for people to survive in the Roulux Empire and now Princess Eleanor is here with her past.

Sir Kit knew the way Princess Eleanor was treated in the Angevin kingdom, maybe that was the reason he was afraid for the Princess here. He just wanted the Princess to be happy.

’Yes, I want her to be happy.’ Sir Kit told himself again and again to justify his thoughts.

"Does Princess have a particular name in mind?" Sir Kit asked. He knew that there might be someone that Princess Eleanor wanted to investigate. She must have some insight otherwise why would she call him here alone at night.

"I do have a few." Princess Eleanor said with a smile. She looked like an innocent lady who would not know any harm in this word but Sir Kit knew that it was an act that she was putting up.

Princess Eleanor was far more intelligent and cunning. A lady who knew what she wanted.

’What does she want from the Roulux Empire?’ Sir Kit could not find the answer to his question. He had thought about it a lot but nothing came to his mind.

"It could be my uncle, the King, or maybe the Queen. I sometimes think that Princess Macy is involved too but now I think.." Princess Eleanor did not complete the sentence. Her voice trembled at the end as if she was unsure of the words that were about to come out of her mouth.

"There is one more person," Sir Kit said in a confident tone. His eyes sharped when he thought about the people involved with the Princess. There were only a few people Princess Eleanor was close with. Close enough for her to hesitate before saying their name and one word came to his mind.

Sir Kit did not wait for Princess Eleanor to continue. He thought that no matter how long the wait, the Princess might never make up her mind to say the word out loud. "Is it Duke Felix?"

Princess Eleanor’s eyes were sharped as she heard the words from Sir Kit’s mouth. She looked at the masked man as she took a deep breath. Princess Eleanor could not understand why Sir Kit would say the name unless he had ... 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Is he involved?" Princess Eleanor asked. Her heart felt heavy as she waited for the answer.

Princess Eleanor trusted Duke Felix. She does trust him but now she just could not ignore it. When she read the letter that Nia got, the words stood out to him. He asked if all had reached the Roulux Empire without any harm.

Princess Eleanor knew that she might be overthinking again but the feeling was odd. Maybe Duke Felix was asking due to the care he felt. After all, one was his lover and the other was his best friend but still...

’Is it because of the timing?’ Princess Eleanor asked herself. If Duke Felix had asked the same thing before maybe she would have considered it as a caring question but after the attack and knowing that some of the knights that were supposed to kill her belonged to the Angevin Kingdom she was doubting everyone.

Sir Kit shook his head as he saw the change in expression on Princess Eleanor’s face. "The person cannot be traced. But it is not Duke Felix."

As soon as the words were said Princess Eleanor sighed in relief. She looked at Sir Kit and asked in a slow tone, "You will be there for me, right? You will not let anything happen to me."
