The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 140
Princess Eleanor looked at the man who stood in front of her.
"That’s it?" Princess Eleanor said as she raised her eyebrows. "I thought that you would come through the window,"
Sir Kit could sense the irritation in Princess Eleanor’s tone. He could feel like she did not want to talk further or even question him as she bit her lips and looked at him as if he had done something unacceptable.
Sir Kit laughed as he opened the door wide open, "There are no guards here today so why should I come through the window? And anyway if I do come through the window I can not take the Princess out from there. I am afraid that you will be hurt,"
Princess Eleanor looked at Sir Kit but she did not reply. She closed her eyes as she walked outside annoyingly.
Sir Kit smiled as he closed the door. He could sense that something was bothering her and he could tell what it was. After all, Doctor Raul had paid him a visit before coming to the Princess.
Sir Kit did not ask anything else as she looked at the man in the mask who was staring at her. Princess Eleanor felt annoyed as she bit her lips. "Sir Kit?"
Sir Kit shook his head as he started walking. Princess Eleanor followed the man but she could sense that something was wrong. "There is really no one here,"
Princess Eleanor’s voice was low but the meaning behind it was stronger. She had only heard from the head maid that the soldiers are not assigned there. There were no guards, and she had not really seen anyone on them in the morning or late evenings as well. But Princess Eleanor always felt like maybe the shadow guards would be assigned at night. Otherwise, why would Sir Kit not enter through the door?
"Did the Princess really think that the people from the Duke’s mansion will tell you lies?" Sir Kit asked as he looked back. Princess Eleanor was following him while looking around. She was confused at times but was also a little happy.
"Well, I thought it was impossible that there was no one," Princess Eleanor said truthfully. There was no other way around it. She knew that she had to be honest with Sir Kit.
"Well, there are no guards but that doesn’t mean that anyone can enter the mansion with their own will." Sir Kit said as he smiled.
His steps were light but powerful. Princess Eleanor was silent as she followed him. Her eyes looked at him from time to time. She could see that Sir Kit was walking slower as if he was putting an effort to match her steps.
"You have something in mind," Princess Eleanor walked a little faster as she caught up to Sir Kit, walking alongside him rather than behind him.
Sir Kit smiled as he looked at Princess Eleanor. He did not say anything else but simply shook his head in denial. "We are here,"
Princess Eleanor was confused as she saw Sir Kit’s steps stop. He was looking straight ahead. Princess Eleanor soon followed his gaze and realized where she was standing. A huge door was right in front of her.
Princess Eleanor bit her lips. She had never seen the Grand Duke’s study room but she could still imagine that it was bigger. And now looking at it, Princess Eleanor was not disappointed.
’Someone might think that they are in front of a royal library,’ Princess Eleanor thought as she swallowed hard. Although she did not want to agree, but she felt like this was getting real. She was about to enter and find out the truth.
"Should we enter?" Sir Kit’s voice brought Princess Eleanor back to reality. She nodded her head as she waited for him to open the door.
Princess Eleanor stared at Sir Kit. She was sure that he had come well prepared. But there was still a problem. What if the Grand Duke came in?
Thinking about it, Princess Eleanor’s heartbeats fastened. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot bring herself to take a step forward. The determination was still there but the fear was also huge.
Princess Eleanor had never met the Grand Duke, but she had heard the rumors. He was not a kind person and Princess Eleanor knew that he would not be too happy seeing her inside his study room if she got caught.
"Wait," Princess Eleanor touched Sir Kit’s hands that were on the handle of the door, ready to push it.
"Princess?" Sir Kit looked at Princess Eleanor whose breathing had turned rapid. He could not understand what caused her to change so quickly.
Princess Eleanor’s hold on Sir Kit tightened. "That... What if the Grand Duke comes?" Princess Eleanor asked in a low voice. It was as soft as a whisper that even Sir Kit thought that he was hallucinating. But once he understood the meaning behind her question and looked at her frightened appearance he knew what was bugging her.
Sir Kit laughed as she shook his head, "The Grand Duke is not in the mansion. He will not be here and today I am in charge to protect the study. The Princess need not worry about such things. I only wish that once you go inside and search for whatever you want, you come to a realization that the Grand Duke is not your enemy."
Princess Eleanor swallowed. She herself wanted to come to that conclusion. She was more afraid of the Grand Duke of the Roulux Empire than the Royal family. After all, the rumors surrounding the man were terrifying.
Princess Eleanor’s heartbeats were beating fast but soon she took a few deep breaths. Her eyes looked at Sir Kit who was smiling at her as if it was the most natural thing to do. As if he would be there to protect her if anything goes wrong.
Princess Eleanor took a deep breath and smiled at Sir Kit while loosening her hold on his hand, "Let’s proof that the Grand Duke is not involved."
