The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 419: The real Nightshade
Chapter 419: The real Nightshade
Rebecca was already in a bad mood after she met with Cedric. He mentioned something he should not have. Cedric did not explicitly say Abrielle’s magic was sealed, but he implied it.
It was in the middle of the night when Pierre was informed the imperial knight was at their gate demanding his presence. She didn’t want to go out, herself, but after some contemplation, she decided to check what was happening.
The air was cold, and the wind whistled by. A scarf was wrapped around her shoulders as she made her way to the main gate. "What is going on?" She muttered. The air felt off and she knew immediately something was wrong without a doubt. She knew it in her bones.
"Make way." They announced creating a path for her to get to the front until she reached the gate. Just as expected, the imperial army was led by Prince Lucian, but there was someone else who made her heart squeeze uncomfortably.
Her eyes met Callista’s gaze. Calm and composed on the outside but she was shaking inside. "Can we talk over tea at least? This isn’t a way to invite a long-expected guest." Callista implied.
Pierre’s eyes were still fierce, "The imperial army can’t barge into our property when we haven’t done anything against the crown." He insisted.
Callista tipped her head. "I understand, I didn’t ask for the entire army, just me. It is the least you owe." She answered.
Pierre laughed, the entire time Rebecca’s hand was secretly trembling her stomach churning. "Under what condition should I let you in. Someone who brought hostility to my gates." Pierre scoffed and Callista smiled, then her gaze locked with Rebecca, who shuddered and stepped back nervously.
"Simply because of this," Callista said, then drew a circle, golden lights showed, and a rune started to form. Not one like the teleportation runes Abrielle saw during the times she crossed paths with Sarah
It was more complicated with intricate paths; those who possessed a very rare and unique holy magic known to the Nightshade family could perform it. That was one of the reasons the Nightshade family generation after generation led the church because they were descendants of the moon goddess
In the original novel, there was a plot hole that many didn’t figure out, one that Abrielle vaguely answered. If only the Nightshade family could lead the temple with their unique abilities, then who would take over when the entire family was executed for rebellion?
Midnight Queen, the author had answered that the goddess would have blessed the new high pope with the ability. What if there wasn’t a need for that because the female lead was a Nightshade all along?
Pierre’s face went pale while Rebecca tried to stay calm with her hand clenched under her garment.
Even the holy knights and the other guards linked to the Nightshade family were surprised that a stranger possessed the Nightshade family’s holy magic.
"I guess that answers your question," Callista answered. Pierre shook his head, unable to answer. "That is impossible."
He glanced at his wife whose eyes were still locked with Callista. "She has all your answers. She always knew. It explained why she was so shocked when she saw me that night at the seaside castle. Duchess Rebecca or should I say my dearest mother."
"That is an interesting claim." Rebecca scoffed, causing Callista to laugh.
"How else do you want me to prove it? I have the physical features of a Nightshade, pale, healthy skin, snow white hair, and blue eyes. You can’t even deny the facial similarities I have to the late Mrs Nightshade, the Duke’s mother, and most importantly, I have holy magic." Every claim she made was valid.
Callista bore a strong resemblance to Pierre’s mother one he had overlooked earlier thinking it was just a coincidence on her part
"You could be using magic to change your appearance." Rebecca accused the priestess.
"I don’t possess transformation magic although it is a type of holy magic, but the Duke’s sharp eyes would have seen through it immediately. You know the answer, but you are taken by too much guilt to accept that I am the weak baby you discarded to die after swapping with a healthier one. The baby you never gave a chance to because I was deemed to die a few months after birth...."
Rebecca’s face finally changed. It was scrunching up visibly.
"You’d rather raise another child as your own than keep your weak baby because you were scared of losing the child a few weeks later and going back to being motherless. You should have at least fought for your child Rebecca. You should have fought for me." Callista barked, tears streaming down her face as she visibly trembled.
Lucian got off his horse and approached the couple.
"To prove her lineage, you can take her to the ancestral test, the same one Abrielle failed at her coming of age, and you covered up with the excuse she had no magic." Lucian proposes. The air went still, Elias, who had been watching this exchange secretly, slipped away.
Things kept on getting worse.
"Rebecca, what do you have to say?" Pierre asked. The duchess scoffed."Do whatever you want. Abrielle will always be my daughter." She turned then walked away Her footsteps were fast
Callista’s gaze darkened. "One more thing, we will appreciate it if you hand over the traitors of the kingdom you are giving sanctuary to," Callista added, speaking loud enough for Rebecca to hear.
"We have no one here," Pierre said. Even though Rebecca might have tricked him, or someone has done so, in one way or another. He wasn’t going to sell out the daughter she raised and loved for 20 years so easily.
No one saw Cedric and Abrielle enter the estate as they came in with a disguise so the imperial army could not force them.
"That’s fine then." Lucian nodded. Pierre turned around giving the signal. "Let them in, but only the priestess and the Crown Prince come in."
