Chapter 49: Family

"How are you feeling, Sera?" Alexander opened up, matching her gaze. He could sense that although the sap did wake her up, it didn’t completely erase the essence of the curse from her body.

She still felt weak and feeble in his senses, quite a far cry from her previous self.

"I’m feeling a lot better, Dear." She replied, a gentle smile gracing her face. She was feeling quite overwhelmed, opening her eyes after a long nearly six years of slumber.

Her eyes were still hazy as she gazed at Cassian’s and Amelia’s faces, their baby faces reflecting vividly across her vision.

’Ah, How much they’ve grown...’

She felt nostalgic and sad at the same time. Missing out the childhood of her children left a very bad taste from the bottom of her heart. ’I’m sorry, my dear children.’

She gently brushed through Amelia’s hair with a self-deprecating smile appearing on her face.

Alexander, not understanding her smile, simply nodded his head and slowly approached her, deciding to check up on her body. He was feeling a little uneasy from Cassain’s explanation about the Serenity tree sap’s implications.

’Is the curse really cured or is it still clinging to her?’

He sat beside her and gently held her hand. After sensing her pulse, he closed his eyes and carefully channeled his golden-colored mana through her nerves.

Both Cassian and Amelia were astonished by the bright golden mana, feeling a sense of coziness and warmth through it.

’Is this light element?’

[Indeed, It is the Light element.]

Raising his brows, He extended his hand toward the light and sensed its warmth, feeling quite curious.

Light elements, as the name suggested, were a form of unique energy found during the absence of darkness. The nature of light was to visibility or warmth—but it also had another profound aspect: purification.

As Alexander’s golden mana seeped deeper into Seraphina’s core, her faint aura flickered—responding slowly but surely to his gentle efforts. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he meticulously navigated through the lingering remnants of the curse.

’He’s... purifying her,’ Cassian realized, awed by the sheer delicacy and control of his father’s actions.

Purification was a powerful ability, capable of purifying malevolent or evil aspects, simply through their radiation. It had a lot of usage including purifying curses, forbidden artifacts, corrupted creatures, etc and in some cases, it could even heal a broken consciousness. However, purification depended heavily on the user’s affinity and also put a lot of strain on the user’s spiritual consciousness. Tackling with malevolent, corrupted creatures was no easy task, much less defeating them. That’s one of the reasons unless your light affinity was mutated or extremely high, most individuals preferred using artifacts for such matters. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

But, at the end of the day, artifacts were merely man-made creations and they can’t match the natural purification from a light user. What Alexander was doing here wasn’t brute force. It was art.

[His Light Affinity is extremely rare. Not even one in a hundred million awaken it. And he has full control over it.]

’It should be the mutated Sun element.’ He thought, feeling slightly jealous. It’s not every day, you get to see a mutated element live in the flesh before your eyes. Mutated elements were extraordinary elements of the nature and were one of the rarest if not the rarest elements to encounter, much less acquire. Their capabilities were immense and not limited to the particular element’s features. Meaning it wasn’t limited to vision and warmth for the mutated Sun element.

Cassian glanced toward Amelia, who was quietly observing from the corner, her eyes filled with both worry and admiration.

’She should also have a mutated element.’ He smiled, recalling the details about her. The perks of being one of the main characters of the novel were immense and unfathomable. Her luck, fate, destiny, everything was tied together with the world’s mechanism, granting her profound fortune and karma.

’I don’t know how her destiny will change, due to my arrival.’

His inner monologue was halted abruptly when a sudden voice intruded his mind.

’You were right.’ Cassian heard a familiar voice inside his mind, startling him. He flinched instinctively, feeling a sudden jumpscare.

Calming down his raging heartbeat, He slowly turned toward Alexander and stared at him confusingly, ’What do you mean?’

’The Curse is not completely removed.’

As if mind reading, the voice responded immediately.

haa

’Telepathy.’ Cassian recalled a certain mind-related ability from his memories.

Telepathy was quite a popular and easy-to-use ability and was also very popular among awakeners. Through telepathy, one could simply communicate to another using mind channels, and it was extremely effective. The conversation through telepathy was only audible to the designated users, no one else could hear or peek through them. ’No one except god that it.’

He chuckled, remembering a certain divinity, who was enjoying his time inside the system’s inventory.

’I should learn it too. It might come in handy in the future, who knows?’ He noted it down and focused back on Alexander’s words.

’We will have a talk later.’

Marking those words, Alexander ended their short one-sided communication and slowly opened his eyes.

"Her mana circuits are damaged but not beyond repair," Alexander finally spoke, withdrawing his hand. "The sap neutralized most of the curse, but the aftereffects... will take time to fade."

"She will be fine, right?" Amelia asked hesitantly.

"With rest, yes." He gave a reassuring nod, then turned toward Seraphina, gently brushing aside a few strands of hair from her forehead. "But you’re not allowed to push yourself for a while. That’s an imperial command."

Seraphina giggled softly. "Yes, Your Majesty," she teased, her eyes dancing with a familiar mischief that had been absent for far too long.

Amelia immediately approached her for a hug and nestled herself within her embrace, feeling the warmth that she’d been missing for a long time.

The room softened with laughter.

Cassian looked between them and felt something strange yet comforting bloom inside him. It was foreign, but not unwelcome.

Warmth.

Not the warmth of power, nor the warmth of victory. But the warmth of family.
