Chapter 33: Trial IV

"HAHAHA...FEAR ME, ZHERATH’S PEASANTS!! FEAR ME!!" The divine rank individual laughed loudly, relishing the expression marred on the Zherath’s soldiers. His voice echoed throughout the battlefield, further diminishing the already broken morale of the soldiers. His very presence was like a storm of despair, suffocating and inescapable.

Cassian narrowed his eyes as he observed the man from his hiding spot. A towering figure clad in crimson armor, his very aura warped the air around him. It wasn’t just the overwhelming mana that made him terrifying—it was the way he carried himself, like a god among mortals.

The Zherath soldiers fell to their knees, their faces drained of all hope. Some clutched their weapons in trembling hands, but none had the courage to stand. Their bodies screamed at them to run, but their legs refused to move.

The divine-rank warrior raised his massive halberd, its blade crackling with golden energy. "Your kingdom is finished! Your king is a coward! And you—" He pointed at the kneeling soldiers. "—are nothing but insects beneath my feet!"

Cassian exhaled sharply, his fingers tightening around the hilt of his broken sword. He could feel the raw difference in power—it was suffocating, maddening even.

"Genesis!" He whispered, calling out the accursed sword from his mind. Since he was directly linked with it through his blood, he could summon it anywhere without any limitations. Divinities weren’t called the all-powerful creatures of the universe for no reason.

The broken sword in his hand vibrated sharply, turning into a speck of dust and a brand new sword replaced its place, fitting perfectly in his tight grip. The new sword had a slick glassy look on its body, with a crimson orb attached to the hilt.

"It’s time to show your usefulness." He stared at the sword, recalling the ability that the old spirit had used against him.

Amidst the reigning despair spreading throughout the battlefield, a single man walked forward, his steps calm and quiet yet it captured everyone’s attention. He had Jett-black hair, navy-blue eyes, and a charismatic smile plastered on his face. His dark green robe fluttered wildly with each passing step, contrasting against the blood-stained battlefield. There was no hesitation in his stride, no fear in his eyes—only an unwavering confidence that felt almost unnatural in the face of such overwhelming power.

The divine-rank warrior paused mid-laugh, his golden eyes narrowing as he turned his attention toward the lone figure.

"And who the hell are you supposed to be?" he sneered, gripping his halberd tightly.

Uravis tilted his head, the corner of his lips curling. "Just a passing traveler," he said nonchalantly, raising Astralis and pointing it toward the enemy. "One who doesn’t particularly enjoy listening to loudmouthed fools."

Gasps rippled through the Zherath soldiers. Whispers spread like wildfire.

"Is he insane?"

"He’s challenging a divine-rank warrior!"

"Does he have a death wish?"

The divine warrior let out a bark of laughter. "A traveler, huh? Then let me grant you a one-way trip to the afterlife!" He swung his halberd, a golden arc of energy slashing through the air toward him.

Uravis simply raised his staff and muttered a single word,

Aegis.

Instantly, a protective bubble surrounded his body, bearing the weight of the incoming attack. Both clashed with eachother sending a wave of pure mana throughout the battlefield.

urghh–!

Soldiers unable to bear the pressure passed out immediately, dropping down on the floor like moths near the light bulbs. A battle between the divines wasn’t something a normal person could bear to experience, both physically and spiritually.

The cloud of dust formed through the clash settled in, displaying the aftermath.

"Y-You–!" The crimson divine stuttered, his eyes widening from the shock of watching Uravis come out through the attack completely unharmed.

"H-How did he survive?"

"Is it a coincidence?"

"Did the lord just go easy on him?"

The remaining soldiers whispered among themselves, questioning the might of the divine-rank individual.

"Valegrith, I’m here to end this war, once and for all," Uravis called out to the crimson-armored man, his voice calm yet carrying firm resolve. He was tired of all this bloodshed and unnecessary conflict just for some piece of land.

"How do you know my name?" Valegrith glared at him, his eyes burning fiercely with boundless anger.

"Fool–! Has your muscleheaded brain forgotten me already?!" He scoffed, the corner of his eye twitching lightly with annoyance. He had known this idiot for countless years–a brute who sacrificed his intelligence for strength. He was a power-hungry bastard who sold everything–even his blood, sweat, and soul, just to gain recognition from the world and he did earn it, but, at what cost?

"Uravis!! We finally meet again!!" He knocked his foot on the ground with a vicious grin plastered on his face.

"Long time no see." Uravis smiled, waving his hand lightly at him.

"HAHAHA–!" His laughter shook the space itself around him. He bent his knees and jumped above, creating a massive crater beneath his feet.

"HOW COULD I FORGET YOU–!" He dashed toward him mid-air with his halberd pointing straight at Uravis’s head.

Bang–!

The halberd crashed onto the barrier with a massive bang, instantly shattering the space around him. A series of spiderweb-like cracks spread through the barrier and with a poof, it shattered itself, dissolving in thin air.

Uravis calmly stepped forward, wrapping the space around them, and teleported right behind Valegrith.

Freeze.

A layer of condensed frost swiftly formed beneath his feet and shackled them, causing him to get momentarily stuck on the ground.

He, not giving any chances, lifted his staff and lightly tapped on Valegrith’s back with it,

Resonance.

A thunderous shock spread throughout his body, causing a series of malfunctions inside. His muscles twitched and swelled, his body convulsing uncontrollably and the nerves tethering him on the brink of collapsing through the shockwave.

GRAHHH–!

Valegrith roared, unleashing a surge of mana that sent a ripple through the battlefield, his very voice shaking the heavens. The crimson armor wrapped around his body rattled loudly and broke part, revealing what was inside in full glory.

A body packed to the brim with muscles, throbbing intently from the training that it went through every day.

A crimson-red aura leaked through his body, covering almost half of the battlefield with its overwhelming pressure. Inside the crimson domain, everything whether it’s alive or dead got sucked dry, turning into bones in a matter of seconds.

Valegrith’s body stabilized itself after unleashing his domain as he turned around and stared right at his opponent’s eyes, clenching the halberd tightly. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Uravis swiftly retreated behind and unraveled his own domain around him.
