The Villainess Winning Back Her Beast Husbands-Chapter 93: Their Lives Entrusted to Her
But the moment the words left Evangeline’s mouth, her expression suddenly tensed.
Her fingertips brushed against the flaxen Snow Leopard Contract Pattern on her waist. The mark had grown so faint it was nearly gone, and it felt ice-cold to the touch, as if it were silently failing.
Evangeline’s face darkened. Her fingers tightened. She couldn’t even sense Lachlan’s aura anymore.
Thorne noticed something was wrong, his chiseled face grim. "What’s happened?"
Caden Albright also turned to look at her, his amber eyes falling to her waist. "The Snow Leopard Clan?"
Thorne’s brow furrowed sharply. "Is it Lachlan? Is he in trouble?"
Evangeline didn’t answer. She closed her eyes and focused, trying to feel the Contract Mark, but all she found was a deathly chill. Her eyes snapped open, her voice taut. "Lachlan’s life force is fading. He’s dying."
Thorne’s dark green eyes contracted. "How can that be? Just the other day..."
’Hasn’t the plague been dealt with? How could Lachlan suddenly be dying?’
But the thought was fleeting. His scales were soaked in the cold, damp rain, and even his blood seemed to run colder.
He snapped to his senses with a jolt. They were in the middle of the deadly rainy season!
The Frost-plain Tribe had just survived the ravages of the plague; how could they possibly withstand the fury of the rainy season?
They probably didn’t have time to prepare for it at all.
Evangeline’s gaze turned icy. "We’re going to the Frost-plain Tribe!" she declared resolutely.
Thorne and Caden Albright exchanged a look. Seeing her grave expression, they said no more.
Just as the three of them turned to change course, the sky suddenly changed color.
Moments ago, it had been clear and sunny; now, dark clouds pressed down from above.
Thunder rolled and roared within the dense clouds, as if threatening to devour the entire Beastman Continent.
Evangeline clutched Bunny protectively to her chest, her narrow eyes fixed on the rolling thunder in the distance. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
She could feel Caden Albright’s body tense beneath her. Even Thorne’s scales stood on end, rustling audibly. He stared at the thunder in the sky, the Thunder Beast Crystal in his chest flashing wildly, flickering in and out of existence.
Thorne’s voice was deep, each word like a taut string. "Be careful. Something feels wrong."
A nearly inaudible gasp escaped Evangeline’s lips, her body as tense as a drawn bow. "A flash flood."
As her words fell, the entire ground began to tremble. The downpour fell like steel needles, stabbing diagonally into the earth. The rising water spread like a waking behemoth.
In an instant, the river water, carrying deadwood and boulders, surged downward with unstoppable momentum!
Wherever it went, massive trees collapsed, and everything was devoured.
The raging flash flood was reflected in Evangeline’s eyes, and the roars of Caden Albright and Thorne filled her ears.
’She knew exactly what was happening. Because Lachlan, the male lead, is about to die, this small world is on the verge of collapse. The natural disasters are arriving right on schedule. The flash flood, along with the rainy season, will destroy all of Norfell.’
Evangeline’s chest heaved. Watching the muddy torrent, she leaped into the air from Caden Albright’s back. Her long whip tore through the curtain of rain, and in a flash of cold light, it wrapped around both of their waists.
Using the whip’s recoil, she shot upward like an arrow released from a bow, pulling Thorne and Caden Albright toward higher ground.
A mere moment later, the overwhelming flood smashed the spot where they had just been standing.
’The priority right now is to save Lachlan!’
’He can’t die.’
*
Evangeline became a blur, streaking across the sky. Despite carrying Thorne and Caden Albright, she still managed to reach the mountain peak before the flash flood hit. The summit was already crowded with all kinds of birds and Wild Beasts.
Thorne’s scales gleamed coldly in the rain while Caden Albright dug his sharp claws into the rock face. Below them, the floodwaters thundered past, roaring as they rushed into the distance, the muddy spray like the fangs of a great beast.
Both of them felt their spines tighten as a bone-deep chill shot up to the nape of their necks.
Thorne’s dark green, slitted pupils contracted violently. A hoarse whisper escaped his throat. "Is this... Is the Beast God trying to destroy us?"
The monstrous, muddy waves were reflected in Caden Albright’s amber eyes. His beast form twisted, transforming into a slender human body.
He swept Evangeline and the young one into his arms, using his own body to form a protective barrier for them.
At that moment, all the Wild Beasts on the peak were prostrated on the ground, curled up and trembling, an instinctual fear seeping from their fur and Scale Armor.
They were so insignificant in the face of this thunderous cataclysm.
Evangeline looked up at Caden Albright and Thorne, her eyes as brilliant as stars. "I have to go to the Frost-plain Tribe."
The scales on Thorne’s neck suddenly flared, glinting with a grim, cold light in the downpour.
He said in a low voice, "The flood is passing through. There’s no way the Frost-plain Tribe survived!"
"Lachlan... is probably already dead." Thorne’s voice broke for a moment. He then shifted into his human form and grabbed Evangeline’s wrist. "Eva, a dying male isn’t worth you risking your life!"
’I know I’m being selfish,’ Thorne thought, ’insanely selfish.’
’I can’t just stand by and watch her rush into danger during a cataclysm this violent!’
A bolt of lightning split the sky, illuminating Evangeline’s face.
She gave a radiant smile, her bewitching features growing even more stunning. But her voice was as light as falling snow, each word striking home like a physical blow.
"Thorne, it is worth it."
"Whether it was jumping off Thorncliff to find a Beast Crystal for you, or turning back without hesitation when Caden Albright’s life was on the line, it was all worth it."
"You are all equally important to me."
"If it were you or Caden Albright who was dying today, I would do the same."
"My heart never calculates gains and losses when it comes to you."
Hearing Evangeline’s words, Thorne clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles cracked. Beads of blood slid from his palm, washed by the rain into a faint red stream.
His eyes were bloodshot. Like a cornered beast, he held onto her hand for dear life, forcing a trembling gasp through his clenched teeth. "...Eva, don’t go."
Then, his hoarse voice mixed with an unconcealable sob. "I’m begging you, don’t go."
Evangeline gently stroked his bloodstained palm, her touch almost cruel. "I have to."
Thorne’s jaw tightened. He whipped his head around to look at Caden Albright. "Don’t let her go!"
His deep voice was laced with a rare panic, like a drowning man grasping at his last piece of driftwood.
Caden Albright’s lowered eyelashes trembled in the rain, the rims of his eyes turning scarlet. He said nothing, but the hand on Evangeline’s waist tightened its grip, his knuckles turning white.
After a moment, Caden Albright’s Adam’s apple bobbed with difficulty. He suddenly released his grip, his lingering tone filled with hoarseness and surrender. "Go."
Thorne’s dark green eyes narrowed to pinpricks, a suppressed roar rumbling in his throat. "Caden Albright!"
Caden Albright turned to face him, rainwater dripping from his sharp jawline.
His gaze was calm. "We shouldn’t stop Eva from doing what she wants to do."
"Thorne, since we’ve become her males, we should support her in everything she does, even if it’s dangerous. Just as Eva said, did she ever hesitate when she risked her life for you, or for me?"
"We’ve already entrusted our lives to her, so what is there to fear?"
At these words, a tremor ran through Thorne, as if he had been pinned to the spot.
Evangeline glanced at Caden Albright, a faint smile suddenly gracing her lips.
’The males on this Beastman Continent are really something else,’ she mused. ’Each one more considerate and doting than the last.’
Evangeline handed Bunny to Caden Albright. With a flick of her wrist, a storage bag embroidered with a silver-white fox appeared in her hand. She stepped forward and, with a brush of her fingertips, tied the storage bag to his waist.
"Inside is food for Bunny, and some Spirit Rice."
"You two stay here and wait for me to come back."
Her voice was soft, but every word was crystal clear.
