Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Her Gaze Scorches Painfully

With that, Evangeline raised her arm, and the Totem Power that had coalesced into a ball in her palm erupted forth!

Her brows were arched in fury, her eyes glinting with killing intent. With a sudden thrust of her palm, the Totem Power shot toward the Witch like a thunderbolt, shrieking through the air as it went.

The Witch frowned and took a step, positioning himself in front of Lana.

But just as he prepared to receive Evangeline’s furious blow, his expression flickered.

A colossal red python slithered into place, its vertical pupils radiating a sinister light. In the blink of an eye, it coiled protectively around the Witch and Lana. Tilting its massive head back, it opened its great maw and spat a volley of venomous darts that collided with the ball of light!

The venom and the light collided in midair, erupting with a deep, thunderous BOOM.

A powerful shockwave radiated outward, kicking up clouds of sand and stone.

Evangeline, shielding Thorne, watched as Elias Moretti intercepted her Totem Power.

The Totem Power was corrosive. Even a Six-star Pattern Beastman like Elias Moretti wouldn’t escape unscathed.

Just as she thought, the giant python dropped to the ground and rolled, transforming back into his human form.

Elias Moretti stood his ground, his brow furrowed. He stared intently at his palm, where the corrosive power still surged wildly. His expression was grim. Suddenly, he whipped his head around, his gaze as sharp as a blade, and fixed it on Evangeline. His eyes were wide with disbelief as he stammered, "You... You can actually wield the tribe’s Totem Power?!"

"Just a little payback," Evangeline said, her voice laced with sarcasm as she glanced down at the bloodstains on her clothes.

’The mission objective is all that matters. As for everyone else... heh.’ 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

A cold glint flashed in the Witch’s eyes. He jabbed a finger viciously at Evangeline and bellowed, "This insolent female dared to try and murder Chief Lana and me! This is a grave offense against the tribe, a blasphemy against the Beast God! Everyone, attack! Take her down! We must sever her head and offer it as a sacrifice to appease the Beast God’s wrath and ensure the safety of our tribe!"

Evangeline’s gaze turned frigid. "Is that the only trick you know?" she asked coolly.

She clenched her fist, her knuckles cracking loudly, and offered a faint smile. "Then let’s put it to the test and see if the Beast God actually agrees with what you have to say."

"Wait!"

"Hold on!"

As the tension reached a breaking point, Elias Moretti and Orion both stepped forward.

The gazes of the two Six-star Pattern Beastmen met for an instant before they both quickly looked away.

Elias Moretti gave Evangeline a long, hard look. "Since Flora is protecting Thorne, we’ll forget about the banishment. I trust in Flora’s strength. I suppose the Earth-drake’s rampage had nothing to do with Thorne after all."

He’d thought he already had a high opinion of this little maiden, but she continued to astonish him. He couldn’t just let an asset like her go.

’This little maiden clearly cares for Thorne. If they actually banish him from the Grymdale Tribe, she’ll surely leave as well. Wouldn’t the loss outweigh the gain?’

’He’s just a younger brother with a shattered Star Pattern. He’s no threat to my position as leader.’

Orion glanced at Elias Moretti, his normally carefree face now grim. "We’re all from the same tribe. If we fight, it will only lead to needless death and injury."

Seeing that a fight was unlikely to break out, Evangeline turned to look at Thorne. Her gaze met his eyes, which were so dark they were almost greenish-black. After a moment’s thought, she asked, "Shall I roast a Herbivore for you when we get back?"

Thorne stared at her, feeling as though his heart had been struck by a sledgehammer.

Her face was smeared with blood and grime, making her look disheveled and ugly. Blood still seeped from her wounds. Yet despite all that, the corners of her lips curved into a brilliant smile as she spoke those words.

Danger lurked all around them, and the pungent smell of blood filled the air. But to her, it seemed all the perils in the world were no match for the simple, everyday promise of hunting a Herbivore she had made to him that morning.

Her eyes were too bright, like the sun after the rainy season—so searing they were painful to look at.

Thorne took a step back, moved past Evangeline, and turned to leave.

"Thorne! Wait for me!" Seemingly oblivious to his rejection, Evangeline called out and chased after him like a devoted shadow, radiating an insistent warmth that couldn’t be denied.

Orion and Elias Moretti both watched her go. Her pace was steady, neither fast nor slow, as she followed closely behind Thorne. It was as if once she set her mind on something, nothing could stand in her way.

For a moment, both men were stunned into silence.

On the Beastman Continent, females had long held a position of reverence. Over time, many had grown arrogant and spoiled. They rarely invested their true feelings in males, let alone cherished them.

But this female before them would unhesitatingly risk her life to protect a male. She was like the sun, warming and illuminating the male by her side with her light, holding nothing back. They had never seen anything like it.

Saskia watched Elias Moretti’s transfixed gaze, bit her lip, and crushed the wooden root in her hand.

Orion snapped back to his senses. His gaze swept over the crowd before he, too, turned and left in the same direction as Thorne and Evangeline.

He had come to the Grymdale Tribe for Thorne in the first place. Now that the matter was resolved, he had no reason to stay.

Melora Moretti, standing beside Lana, watched Orion leave. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but then her expression fell, and she remained silent.

「Elias Moretti’s Cave.」

He sat casually at the entrance to his cave, one knee slightly bent, replaying the recent events in his mind.

Just then, he heard a faint rustle nearby.

Elias Moretti’s brow furrowed. He turned his head toward the sound. "Come out!"

Saskia, clad in white gauze, emerged from the bushes. She looked at the effortlessly cool Elias Moretti, her eyes filled with longing. "You haven’t come to see me once since I arrived at the Grymdale Tribe," she said, her tone plaintive.

Elias Moretti’s expression was cold. Before he could speak, Saskia threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck and pressing her lips to his. Her eyes were bewitching, full of seductive allure. "Elias, don’t you miss me?"

Elias Moretti looked impatient. He was about to push Saskia away when a thought occurred to him. He let his hand rest on her soft waist and asked in a low voice, "That girl, Flora. How did she first come to your Midridge Tribe?"

’I’ve already had someone look into it,’ he thought. ’But it’s like this Flora appeared out of thin air. Norfell has no record of such a powerful female. She’s a complete mystery. To get to the bottom of it, I have to start with the Midridge Tribe.’

’Why would such a powerful female join the Midridge Tribe unless she wanted something?’

A flicker of annoyance crossed Saskia’s eyes, but seeing the sinister glint in Elias Moretti’s red pupils, she answered obediently, "A female from our tribe brought her back. I think she came from Thorncliff..."

"Thorncliff? A Fallen Beastman?" Elias Moretti’s expression shifted.

’I’ve considered many possibilities,’ he thought, ’but I never imagined Flora could be a Fallen Beastman who escaped from Thorncliff.’

"Fallen Beastmen are abandoned by the Beast God. They grow stronger by devouring Beastman Crystals. This Flora... her power and her methods aren’t like those of an ordinary Witch. So I suspect there’s a high chance she’s a Fallen Beastman who escaped from Thorncliff!"

Saskia, still sitting in Elias Moretti’s lap with her arms hooked around his neck, spoke with a voice full of malice.

’She knew Elias Moretti too well; she knew just how drawn he would be to Flora’s power. But she had sacrificed so much to finally make it into the Grymdale Tribe. How could she let someone else take the position of Female Leader?’
