Chapter 65: Chapter 65: You Don’t Want To?

"It’s getting late, let’s rest. We need to gather our strength to cross Tygerfell tomorrow."

After entering the cave, Seraphina Caldwell curiously asked.

"Aren’t Gideon Larkin and the others sleeping inside? It’s windy and damp outside, aren’t they afraid of the cold?"

She struggled slightly, wanting to walk on her own, but Isaac Vaughn held her steadily, refusing to let go.

Previously, everyone slept close together in a narrow cave.

This cave is spacious, with thick stone walls and dry grass on the ground; why chase them outside to freeze?

Isaac Vaughn paused, looking down at her.

"You don’t mind watching?"

Seraphina Caldwell was even more bewildered.

"Mind what? We’ve squeezed into smaller caves, and everyone slept in their beast forms. Gideon is a lion, Evan Orwell is a crane, and Kaelan Hawthorne is a fox. They won’t do anything... What’s wrong with it?"

In her mind, these characters were not easy to deal with.

Show a bit more understanding, and after the Bonding with her father, they wouldn’t hold a grudge and risk their lives to trouble her.

Isaac Vaughn, seeing her innocent look, smiled even deeper in his eyes.

"Come inside. It’s cold outside, don’t catch a chill."

The three men outside reacted differently when they heard this.

Kaelan Hawthorne chuckled, muttering softly, "Playing it real smooth," and then leisurely strolled in.

Seraphina Caldwell felt a bit more at ease seeing everyone come in.

She glanced around, remembering Wyatt Yardley hadn’t returned yet.

"I wonder if he found a place to shelter from the rain..."

But thinking about the journey tomorrow, she forced herself to stop worrying, climbed onto the Beast Skin, and prepared to sleep with her eyes closed.

Isaac Vaughn watched her lay down and climbed up as well.

His knee paused slightly as it touched the ground before he slowly let his weight down.

He didn’t hold her like before, propping his hands beside her and leaning slightly, gazing down at her. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

As soon as Seraphina Caldwell closed her eyes, she felt a familiar scent, tinged with a salty sea breeze, envelop her.

She instinctively held her breath, her eyelashes trembling faintly.

The scent belonged to Isaac Vaughn.

She opened her eyes, using the light filtering through the cave from the fire pit, seeing clearly it was Isaac Vaughn above her.

The flickering flames cast shadows on his face, with light blue hair falling over his forehead.

He was the familiar Isaac Vaughn, yet at this moment, it seemed as if he had become someone else.

Seraphina Caldwell’s heart skipped a beat, swallowing hard, she whispered.

"Why aren’t you lying down?"

Isaac Vaughn lightly brushed away a strand of hair from her cheek.

"I can sing; do you want to hear?"

Seraphina Caldwell had long wanted to hear a Merfolk’s song, and he mentioned it first, so she wouldn’t refuse.

"Of course I want to!"

Isaac Vaughn laughed, slowly sat up, and gathered her into his arms.

Caught off guard, she was lifted, her back pressing against his warm chest.

Isaac Vaughn tilted his head slightly, starting with a light hum, then the melody gradually stretched out.

Her fingers unconsciously curled slightly.

She couldn’t understand the words or the tune, but her heart felt particularly at ease.

She stopped thinking and worrying, simply immersing herself quietly.

Seraphina Caldwell was completely absorbed, even holding her breath for fear that making a sound would break the dream.

The song suddenly stopped.

She returned to her senses, instinctively looking up.

"Finished?"

Isaac Vaughn looked down at the lingering daze in her eyes, his gaze deep.

"Mhm. If you want, I can sing for you every day."

His gaze slowly fell on her slightly red lips.

"But right now... there’s something more important than singing."

Seraphina Caldwell blinked, her eyelashes lightly trembling, just about to ask, "What is it?"

But before she could speak, his lips pressed down.

She didn’t dodge.

After all, he mentioned before that it was getting hard to suppress the estrus period, so he brought her to find a place to rest.

She was mentally prepared for a kiss, to soothe emotions.

But soon she felt something was off.

Isaac Vaughn’s kiss grew heavier.

Seraphina Caldwell’s mind was dizzy, heart pounding, with a heavy sensation in her chest.

Her consciousness started to blur, but the remnants of clarity made her suddenly realize this had exceeded the realm of "soothing."

So Seraphina Caldwell lifted her hand in panic, pressing firmly against his chest.

Isaac Vaughn paused, his form slightly trembling, yet he didn’t really release her.

Just as she was about to breathe, his lips pressed down again, not on her mouth this time.

But along her jawline, slowly sliding to her slender neck, moving downward.

Seraphina Caldwell shuddered all over, barely having time to dodge as her clothes loosened.

The bustier that covered her body was swiftly pulled down by his fingers.

She was completely panicked, grabbing Isaac Vaughn’s wrist.

"Isaac! What... what are you doing?!"

She thought it’d only be hugging and kissing to calm his estrus.

But now, this was clearly something else.

Isaac Vaughn was stunned, staring into her eyes.

"Didn’t you agree to mate with me?"

His voice was hoarse.

Seraphina Caldwell’s mind buzzed.

"When did I agree?"

She clearly just said, "sleep early" and "help you suppress the estrus period," how did it suddenly become a Bonding?

How did it become a life-and-death oath?

She recalled before entering the cave, Gideon’s flushed face, Kaelan’s sneer, Evan’s furrowed brow.

So they all thought she was intending to do that with Isaac here?

At that moment, they considered her as Isaac’s mate, while she was oblivious.

The scarier part was, was he not the only one who thought this?

Isaac Vaughn saw the genuine panic in her eyes.

He slowly released her hand.

"You don’t want to?"

Of course not.

Isaac was indeed good-looking and a Green Rank Beastman, but he was a villain!

She knew he hated her.

Right now, it was just the estrus period affecting him, not his true emotions showing.

She took a deep breath, softening her tone as much as possible.

"Isaac, I don’t know what I said for you to misunderstand, but I truly never planned on Bonding with you."

"When you are in estrus, I can hold you, let you lean on me to sleep. If it’s really hard to hold back... kissing is fine too. Just don’t mention Bonding again."

Her words were clear enough.

Between us, it can only be temporary comfort, not a long-term promise.

Isaac Vaughn chuckled suddenly after listening.

"If you don’t want to... then sleep. We have a journey tomorrow."

After speaking, he turned to lay down, back facing her.

Seeing him not persisting any further, Seraphina Caldwell felt relieved, the tension on her shoulders easing slightly.

Yet looking at his stiffened back, a pang of indescribable pain surged in her chest.

After all, Isaac was still in estrus, holding back until now required tremendous restraint.

She bit her lip, finally lying down, gently wrapping her arms around his waist from behind.

"Isaac... does this feel a bit better?"

Isaac Vaughn’s back stiffened, muscles instantly tensing.

But he didn’t push her away or respond, just lay there silently.

It was only then Seraphina Caldwell truly relaxed.

As long as he doesn’t explode or go wild, there’s still hope for a turnabout.

If not properly comforted and he really went mad, not only would she get hurt, but others would also suffer.

The journey tomorrow would be problematic.

And tomorrow, she’d finally see her father.

This crucial moment cannot go wrong.

The Beast Husband, who pretended to sleep, was all wide awake.

Gideon Larkin’s lion ears twitched slightly.

His heart was restless: Kaelan said Seraphina was pretending to be weak, trying to trick us into a Bonding.

But she just clearly refused Isaac; did Kaelan misjudge her?
