Chapter 71: Another Murder Scene

That evening, the arrogant blonde woman bid farewell to her friends outside the mall, having changed into a new outfit and meticulously redone her hair. She stood alone in the cold, her arms wrapped around herself as she shivered.

She had opted for the more expensive outfit, a stunning gown designed to make her friends envious. However, it provided no warmth, leaving her exposed to the biting cold. To make matters worse, her driver was taking an unusually long time to arrive.

Though she was tempted to book a cab, it would be beneath her status to do so. Thus, she forced herself to endure the chill, even as a gust of wind sent shivers down her spine. She took a deep breath and vigorously rubbed her hands together, blowing warm air onto them.

The parking lot was deserted, with cars lining both sides. Suddenly, one of the cars emitted a noise, as if someone had accidentally touched it, and its alarm began blaring.

Startled, the arrogant lady turned and frowned. "Who’s there?"

She regretted not persuading her friends to stay with her. Now, she had to summon courage even though it didn’t come naturally unless she were in front of others.

She took another deep breath and muttered to herself, "It might just be a cat. Don’t worry."

The noise no longer perturbed her, so she eased her guard and reached for her phone to call her infuriating driver.

She dialed his number and erupted, "Where on earth are you?!" Her voice dripped with arrogance and concealed anxiety as she berated the poor driver who answered her call, "I’ve been waiting for ages!"

"Ma’am, the car is stuck in traffic. It might take another half an hour."

"Half an hour?!" The arrogant woman was aghast at those words and exclaimed, "What did you say?! You incompetent fool, you can’t even manage to drive properly. If you want to keep your job, you’d better hurry! Speed or do whatever it takes! I don’t care!" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

In her anger, she flung her phone to the ground, shattering the screen. Then she lightly kicked the nearest car as she vented, "That wretched old man! If it weren’t for my father, where else would he find a decent job? He’d be starving and parched in some wretched slum!

"He should be groveling at my feet, thanking me for helping him! Instead, he dares to be insolent! Let’s see if he’ll still have a job when I return! Pathetic!"

"Ah, you should’ve never thrown your phone," a man’s voice suddenly cut through the darkness. He spoke with a hint of pity, "Now how will you call for help?"

The arrogant woman jumped, her voice quivering as she demanded, "Who’s there? Show yourself!"

"If I reveal myself too soon," the man chuckled sinisterly, "your screams will be cut short. I prefer to savor my games."

Fear gripped the arrogant lady, and she began to retreat, bumping into a car that set off its alarm, adding to the tension. Even the overhead light flickered ominously. She desperately scanned her surroundings, trying to locate the source of the voice.

She was so frightened that she couldn’t utter a single word as she scooted closer to the area where she had thrown her phone and picked it up. She hit her phone in anxiety again and again, trying to turn it on, but it just wouldn’t. It refused to listen to her orders.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as her lower lips quivered. "Wh-what do you want?"

"At last, you ask a sensible question." The man’s voice oozed with mockery. "I was beginning to wonder if you had any intelligence left."

His soothing and soft voice was completely devoid of emotion, sending a shiver down the blonde woman’s spine. She hugged herself and backed away even more, trying to find shelter in that car behind her. "I-I don’t understand..."

If it were any other girl, take Abigail for example, this arrogant woman would have gotten angry after hearing that insult. But right now, she was too frightened to speak a single word. She trembled as she rubbed her hands on her arms, trying her best to not scream out in fright.

"So I’ll have to explain it to you, don’t I?" The man sighed and said, "Well, for the starters, you slapped Abigail, which is a big offense in my dictionary. Second, you don’t treat poor people well. Is it their fault that they’re born like that? They are also human like you." The man’s voice turned cold as he said, "The most I hate are women like you, arrogant and brainless. I hope you go to hell after you die and suffer."

"Di-die?!" The woman fell to the ground as her knees went weak.

"Tsk, such weakness," the voice seemed to draw closer. The light flickered erratically before finally plunging the parking lot into total darkness. The man spoke again, "Now then, let’s end this, shall we?"

He paused and sighed. "I’ve turned off the lights for a reason. I’d hate to see your beautiful outfit ruined. I hope that’s not a problem."

The woman’s face had turned ashen. She could no longer utter a word. Fear had paralyzed her. Tears rolled down her cheeks as her entire body became weak and trembled.

Suddenly, she heard the sound of footsteps echoing from the back. Her back turned straight as she sat there vigilantly and wiped her face.

Since no help could come, and since she didn’t want to die, it was better to run away. It would be better if she could find her father to find this arrogant murderer who dared to provoke her in the parking lot thinking she was a weak woman!

But for that, she would have to keep her life.

Pale with fright, she pushed herself onto her feet as she stumbled forward. Since her legs were still trembling, she couldn’t walk at a faster pace. The sound of footsteps was coming closer and closer, and closer.

Suddenly, it stopped right behind her.

The arrogant woman’s heart sank as she felt sweat drops rolling down her temples. Before she could make a run for it, a knife was stabbed into her back, twisting deep.

"AHHHH!!!!!"
