Chapter 47: Long Time No See

Chloe sat in her seat and stared at everyone, finally stopping her gaze at Nicholas. Her eyes squinted slightly for a moment before she moved her gaze away and clicked something on her laptop that her assistant brought.

"I welcome everyone on the behalf of Dawsons." Chloe’s business-like voice echoed into the hall as the entire place turned silent. "Here’s the plan that I have created for everyone. Please take a look."

She gestured for her assistant to show the plan and explain it at the same time.

The meeting went on for half hour as one slide after another continued onward. It could be said that Chloe was an expert at hiding her claws behind her helping demeanor. A newcomer would be fooled after seeing the business deal, thinking she was paving way for him to do business.

But in reality, she would steal everything from the newcomer, making him beg on the streets. She was that ruthless.

Thankfully, everyone sitting there knew what was going on. Slowly, as the meeting progressed, their faces started to turn darker. Even though Abigail didn’t understand a thing, she still knew this was a selfish plan that would only benefit her mom.

She turned toward her husband, who was also on the verge of splitting the table in half in anger.

Oh no! Nicholas was even angrier than ordinary days because of her! He had already been fuming, and this business presentation made him furious to no end!

Abigail’s eyes widened as she anxiously stared at him.

How should she stop him from speaking up?!

Asher beside her clicked his tongue and leaned back, crossing his arms on his chest. "This business deal is a trap."

His voice wasn’t low, and everyone heard it crystal clear. At this time, Nicholas finally let go of his hand that had tightened around his armchair and also added, raising his head at Chloe, "There are many flaws in your deal."

After that, he proceeded to add more words, stripping all the business flaws naked in front of everyone. Others also joined in and started glaring at Chloe.

The more this happened, the more Chloe’s expression darkened. She stared at Nicholas and then at Asher. Her index finger taped onto her armchair as if she were thinking of something.

Abigail looked at the situation and suddenly stood up, slapping the table with her hand. She turned toward her mother and said in a cold voice, "Long time no see, mom."

Everyone silenced after those words.

Both Nicholas and Asher were surprised to see her action.

Honestly, when they had done their research on Abigail, they found out that the woman was extremely fond of her mother, seeking her attention at everything. Nicholas didn’t think this attitude would change anytime soon.

Originally, he had thought Chloe planted Abigail on his side in the garb of selling her daughter as a spy. That was why he didn’t take Abigail seriously and even treated the woman like a hateful villain.

But now that he saw Abigail...

No...

He still shouldn’t lower his guard. This woman Chloe was extremely crafty. Perhaps this meeting was also a prearranged trap laid forward to take him down.

Nicholas’s eyes darkened at that thought as he leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest. He looked like he was watching a show.

On the other side, Asher had a completely different way of thinking. He indeed knew how dangerous this woman Chloe Dawson was. Not because he was in the same business, but because he had researched her after meeting Abigail. More likely, his assistant did all the work and reported him before boarding the plane.

So he basically knew that Chloe was a villainous character. Of course, he had heard of how obedient and attention seeking Abigail was toward her mom, but for some reason, he could tell there was a big difference between the Abigail mentioned in the reports and the crazy, moody woman standing beside him.

He leaned back and also decided to watch. But unlike Nicholas, he would be ready to help the woman if Chloe dared to do something. So he continued to sit there vigilantly, staring at Chloe.

Chloe was surprised to see her daughter acting like this.

Even though she hated her daughter, she still cared about her face and treated the young woman fairly well in front of others. Of course, she would leave the young woman all alone, throwing her to the servants. That’s how she raised Abigail up until now, and the young woman would always try to seek her attention, literally licking her boots. Chloe considered it beneath herself to continue to care about the daughter of her hateful husband.

She hated everything about him, even her own daughter. The girl was born at a critical time when she had just gotten a good business deal. But because of delivery, Chloe was pushed to bedrest, losing her one in a million business deal.

That was the moment that birthed hatred for the little child and so she threw the baby to her servants, not even sparing the girl a single glance despite how much she cried for her mother.

Now that Chloe looked at her daughter once again, she was surprised at being gazed at so coldly. A frown crossed her forehead.

Before today, even if Chloe did something terrible to her daughter, the naive girl would end up calming down at the fastest rate if the older woman showed appreciation to the girl. But today, this young woman dared to look at her own mother squarely with an attitude.

Hah, it was said that women change after getting married. It wasn’t false.

The two of their gazes clashed as they stared at one another.

"Long time no see, dear Abigail."

Even though Chloe’s words sounded sweet, it was anything but that. If an ordinary person heard her, they would mistake a mother caring for her child, but the people sitting around the table weren’t a single bit ordinary. They knew very well what was happening and soon realized there was bad blood between the mother and daughter.

No wonder Chloe Dawson sold her daughter to her enemy! 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

"Mom." Abigail felt bitter in her mouth speaking those words. Chloe, no matter whether she was in the novel or her real life, didn’t deserve such respect. "I want you to get out of here."

"What did you just say?" Chloe’s eyes narrowed dangerously.

"You heard me." Abigail didn’t lower her stance, and she was very well aware of the dangers of going against this lady. "Get out of here."
