Chapter 163: Let’s Spar [4]

Ducking down, I avoided the punch with ease, before grabbing Jacob by his waist.

Jacob, seeing through my intentions, slammed his elbow straight into my back.

But I didn’t let go of my hold over him, as, twisting my body, I picked up Jacob before slamming him into the wall behind me.

Another loud impact echoed across the hall.

I expected Jacob to grunt in pain, but no sound could be heard.

Sensing no retaliation from him, I retreated a few steps, as my gaze paused on Jacob, who had his head turned down.

Crack.

Hm?

Hearing a strange sound, my eyes moved to find the source, only to stop at Jacob’s hands—his fingers, to be exact.

Jacob’s nails had begun to elongate, turning into sharp claws within seconds.

A partial werewolf transformation.

"Jacob control—"

The instructor’s words were cut short, as Jacob raised his head to look at me.

His eyes had turned bloodshot, as the air around me began to slightly vibrate.

Was it mana pressure?

I didn’t think so.

But the mana that was currently overflowing out of Jacob’s body was surely having a visible effect on the air in my vicinity.

Before anyone could intervene, Jacob charged at me again, this time moving his body in wide arcs, making his claws do the work.

I kept retreating, as those claws were sharp enough to tear through my skin.

Even though the situation had turned intense, I still had the desire to corner Jacob with my words, but knowing that the attention of the entire class was currently on us, I held back.

With every second that passed, Jacob’s speed kept increasing up to the point that even I was having a little difficulty keeping up with his movements.

His werewolf body, coupled with his transformation and the insane amount of mana being utilized, had already allowed Jacob’s speed to surpass the limits of what an average Silver core could achieve.

But—Despite the urgency of the situation, I calmly observed Jacob, who was going wild with his attacks.

"Face me head on—coward!"

Jacob roared as his speed increased with another surge of mana.

Jacob vanished from his spot, swiftly appearing behind me, as if he had teleported.

Impressive, but—

Bam!

I blocked the claw that was aimed at my neck, before driving a kick into Jacob’s guts.

But the beast jumped back at the last moment, dodging my attack.

Swoosh!

I didn’t wait, as my legs moved in succession, quickly covering the distance between us.

Right.

Left.

Upper.

Lower.

Launching several consecutive punches, I tried to corner Jacob, but he managed to block all of them.

His arms felt far sturdier than before, as the impact from the blocks damaged my own.

Though the injuries were light, as they stacked up, even I had begun to feel the pressure.

But the situation wasn’t out of hand.

I still hadn’t used my mana, nor was I planning to—

At least, not yet.

"Is that all you have got?"

"..."

Jacob didn’t reply, as his blood-red eyes were focused on my body, trying to find any gap in my defence.

"I thought all these theatrics would have given you a bigger boost."

Rolling to the side, I placed my hands on the floor before launching my legs into the air, aimed at Jacob’s face.

The impact left Jacob stumbling back.

"Come on! Surely a beast is better than this."

An unnecessary statement.

But I was enjoying it nonetheless.

"Haa... hahaa... You want to die that badly, huh?!"

Jacob’s voice had grown rougher than before.

It felt more like a growl than a mere shout.

"Kael, he’s getting out of control."

Zenur’s voice made me turn my body to look at him.

His usual smile was gone, replaced with a seriousness that was unnatural for him.

Though he made no effort to stop the fight.

Was he trusting my judgment?

This guy was surely interesting.

"Brother!"

Hm?

Just as I was preparing to expand the fight, a high-pitched feminine voice broke the intense silence that had covered the entire hall.

A girl with pointed ears had approached Jacob, grabbing him by the arm.

"Calm down, please!"

Jacob’s twin sister looked similar to him.

Hearing the voice of his sister, Jacob shifted his gaze from me.

Though his eyes were still red, the guy seemed to have somehow come to his senses again.

That was fast.

I had expected more of this drama, but...

Well... it didn’t really matter.

One of my objectives of introducing myself to Jacob in a polite manner was completed successfully, so I could let the situation settle now.

"You are quite docile."

I commented as Jacob’s knees touched the ground.

He had been using an excessive amount of mana in our fight, which had resulted in such a state.

Mana deprivation.

It was his adrenaline that had allowed him to stand for so long, but the moment his sister’s voice fell on his ears, all of Jacob’s anger seemed to have dissolved into thin air.

He indeed loved her a lot.

Jacob didn’t comment on my provocation, as he had collapsed entirely, his body being supported by the girl beside him.

"I think that’s enough for today’s session."

The instructor’s voice cut through the silence, making everyone turn their heads in his direction.

"You all may leave the hall and head to your respective lectures. Student Jacob, visit me after the academy hours. Is that clear?"

"..."

Jacob had no strength to answer, as his body was far more drained than what appeared on the surface.

Normally, the mana in a Silver 1 core is sufficient enough to sustain longer fights, but being unable to dominate me, Jacob had used excessively high amounts of mana.

It was around ten times the normal usage.

So along with mana deprivation, his body seemed to have overheated too, as he had, after all, partially transformed during the fight.

"Why him?"

Hm?

Jacob’s sister had raised her voice, her eyes fixed on the instructor.

"Is there any issue, student—"

"If my brother was in the wrong, then so was he."

Every head turned towards me.
