Chapter 272: Chapter 272: Watermelon Field

Renee Jennings stared at her in disbelief.

’Naomi Kenway deliberately made my eyes sting for ages, and now *I’m* the one who has to apologize?!’

If it weren’t for the sincere look on Margaret Jennings’s face, Renee would have almost thought the two were ganging up on her.

Renee Jennings huffed. She wasn’t about to apologize. ’Why on earth should I have to apologize to Naomi Kenway?!’

Margaret Jennings looked at her with disappointment.

[What’s with the huffing? Why is Renee Jennings so arrogant? I seriously don’t get her anymore. If she weren’t on camera, I bet she would’ve rolled her eyes.]

[Nina was just trying to be nice and help, and this is the attitude Renee Jennings gives her? Who’s going to dare help her in the future? People will probably be afraid to even get close, worried she might bite their head off.]

[What is Renee Jennings even doing... Such a bizarre move...] 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

[Renee Jennings is such a hypocrite. When she messes up, she apologizes to others, and if they don’t forgive her, she acts all heartbroken and says they’re overreacting. But when it’s her turn, she has a completely different standard?]

[If this keeps up, Renee Jennings should just quit the show. Please, save my eyes. Mona can be looked after by another mom. I’ve seen shows where they just create a new mother-child pair on the spot.]

...

After a short rest, Renee Jennings returned to the cutting board to chop vegetables, completely unaware that she had already been slammed with hundreds of comments from the livestream audience.

After the sun set, the weather turned chilly. Naomi Kenway asked a cameraman and learned the temperature had dropped by over ten degrees. A cool breeze filled the air. Naomi reminded everyone to grab a jacket, then took Ian upstairs to change clothes.

For dinner, everyone set up a table in the courtyard, which was soon laden with food.

Ruby Preston knew Naomi Kenway had done the most work, so she served Naomi a bowl of congee first. "So many dishes! Looks like we’re in for a treat!"

Jared Woods was drooling right onto his collar. Chelsea Raines wiped it for him with a look of disgust, muttering that he was hopeless.

Soon, everyone dug in. Jared Woods wolfed down a piece of meat and asked with his mouth full, "Aunt Kenway is such a good cook! Mom, can we hire Aunt Kenway to cook for us at home?"

Margaret Jennings laughed. "Hire Nina to come home with you? Haha, that would cost a lot of money."

"How much? My grandpa gave me a villa this year. Is that enough?"

Margaret Jennings shook her head. "I’m afraid one villa isn’t enough."

Jared Woods looked troubled. "I also have a drawer full of allowance money. And if I sell all the clothes and shoes my mom bought me, that would be a lot of money." He asked earnestly, "Would that be enough?"

Margaret Jennings still shook her head.

Jared Woods whimpered, crestfallen. As he shoveled rice into his mouth, he resolved to make lots of money when he grew up so he could hire Aunt Kenway to cook for him.

Renee Jennings was seething internally and refused to touch any of the dishes Naomi Kenway had made. She had steamed the rice herself, so she just kept her head down and ate only that. But eating plain rice was incredibly dry.

After taking a sip of water from a cup on the table, Renee Jennings finally picked up a piece from one of the dishes. This was the first time she had ever eaten food cooked by Naomi Kenway.

Her reluctance to eat was one thing, but it was another that she could barely get to the food in the first place. Jared Woods alone could polish off two bowls himself. No wonder he was so sturdy.

Renee Jennings casually put the food in her mouth. After chewing for a moment, her expression froze for two seconds. Her face went through a series of changes, and after that, she didn’t say another word at the dinner table.

Since Naomi Kenway had done the most work cooking, Ruby Preston urged her to go upstairs and rest while they cleaned up. After a few polite refusals, Naomi took Ian upstairs.

*

The next morning, Naomi Kenway received a new mission card.

Please assemble at Uncle Nigati’s melon patch at 9 a.m. sharp to take on a new challenge!

—My Super Mom Production Team

Naomi Kenway flipped the card over. Sure enough, the location of Uncle Nigati’s melon patch was written on the back.

Naomi Kenway glanced at the clock. It was still more than an hour until nine, so they could take care of breakfast first.

Just as she was thinking about it, a staff member handed her two bento boxes. "Ms. Kenway, here is your breakfast."

Naomi took them, pleasantly surprised. "I was starting to think you weren’t bringing us food this morning."

The staff member shook his head and smiled. "It’s just a bit later today."

After breakfast, Naomi Kenway packed a bag with water and two warm jackets. She didn’t know how long the mission would last, so it was better to be safe.

She also packed some emergency medicine and mosquito repellent. Ian had delicate skin and was prone to mosquito bites, which took a long time to fade.

Once she was ready, Naomi Kenway opened her door and walked out, running right into Margaret Jennings, who was just closing her own door. Margaret smiled. "Shall we go together?"

Naomi Kenway said, "Sure."

All the guests were staying in the same courtyard, and Margaret Jennings felt it wouldn’t be right to go alone, so she knocked on the other guests’ doors as well.

The five guests and their children set out together. They were quite lucky; right after leaving, they met a kind-hearted villager who offered to drive them to the mission location.

Half an hour later, the guests arrived at their destination—Uncle Nigati’s watermelon field.

An endless sea of green stretched out before them, as far as the eye could see.

The host was already waiting there, waving from a distance.

"Welcome, everyone, to our watermelon field! Are you all ready to take on a new mission?"

"Yes!" Carina Sanders shouted loudly.

Margaret Jennings smiled and gently stroked her hair.

Carina Sanders was usually the one who livened things up among the young guests. The host clearly adored this energetic child and chuckled, "What a loud voice! It looks like our Carina is very confident!"

He turned his head and asked, "How about our other little guests? Are you confident? Let me hear you!"

"Yes!!"

The host nodded in satisfaction, holding a script:

"Next, our moms and kids will be playing a fun little game together."

"The rules are simple. Moms and children will complete their tasks separately. The moms need to follow Nigati and his family to harvest and transport the watermelons." He pointed to a large truck parked on the side of the road. "You just need to transport the harvested watermelons to the truck."

"Under the scorching sun, harvesting watermelons will be hard work for the moms. The children’s task is to make watermelon juice for their moms to cool off."

Not far away was a table with several peeled watermelons and various bottles and jars containing what looked like sugar and milk.

"Within the time limit, the moms will come over to taste the fruits of their children’s labor after they finish harvesting. Rewards will be given out based on the number of watermelons harvested! Today’s reward is a food ingredient pack—"

The host smiled, a hint of mischief in his eyes. "I’m sure you’re all familiar with our past rewards. The ingredient packs for different ranks vary greatly. For a more lavish dinner, I suggest our guests give it their all!"

Ruby Preston asked, "What’s the time limit?"

"Three hours."
