Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Who Wants to Reason with You?

Jackson Kensington had his hands on Jeanette Kensington’s shoulders, murmuring some words of advice. The father and daughter looked at each other and smiled, a heartwarming scene.

"Jeanette, don’t be too nervous. Just do what you normally do. Dad believes in your abilities. You’ll always be Dad’s proudest daughter. Your mom said she’s going to cook a celebratory meal for you when you get back."

As he spoke, he gently tapped the tip of Jeanette Kensington’s nose. "You’re in for a treat!"

Jeanette Kensington hugged his arm coquettishly, her beautiful face showing a hint of determination. "I’m going to get this MV role, no matter what!"

Rhys Quinn wasn’t just a big name in the entertainment industry at home; he also had immense popularity abroad. Jeanette Kensington’s own popularity was, of course, nothing to scoff at. She was a major idol both domestically and in Hansea. However, her fame was limited to those two countries, and her international influence was still weak. Jeanette planned to use this opportunity to break into the Western markets.

Unfortunately, Rhys Quinn was only holding open auditions for an actor in his MV this time. ’If I were lucky enough to sing a duet with him, the results would surely be on another level,’ Jeanette Kensington mused.

Naomi Kenway watched this scene unfold, subconsciously clenching her fists. A sense of disgust rose within her.

She and her assistant started walking toward the exit. Just as they brushed past Jeanette and her father, she heard Jeanette call out.

"Nicole, what are you doing here?"

Jackson Kensington looked at Jeanette Kensington, displeased. "Jan, why are you talking to her? She smashed a bottle on me and made me a laughingstock in high society! And then there’s Ethan Shaw pulling his investment..." As he spoke, he gritted his teeth in anger. "The deal was going so well, and he just pulled out like that! He even nitpicked the contract to make me pay a breach penalty!"

His face was contorted with fury and viciousness, a complete departure from the loving father he had just appeared to be. "She’s a menace sent specifically to ruin me!"

Jeanette Kensington tried to placate him. "Dad, don’t say that. No matter what, Nicole is your daughter and my sister."

"What daughter? She’s a jinx sent to ruin my life! I can’t seem to get rid of her—I run into her everywhere I go!"

Thinking about the recent unpleasantness with the Shaw Group, Jackson Kensington’s heart filled with rage.

Both were his daughters, yet Naomi Kenway only ever conspired with outsiders to make his life difficult. Then he looked at Jeanette Kensington—filial, sensible, and with a boyfriend who had helped him solve several of his most vexing problems.

Naomi Kenway turned around and gave them a cool glance. "You two are quite the double act."

Her gaze shifted to Jackson Kensington, her eyes cold. "Has your arm healed?"

Jackson Kensington looked at her suspiciously and snorted. "A wolf in sheep’s clothing. I don’t need you here pretending to care about me."

"Care about you? Are you still dreaming? You really think every good thing is going to fall into your lap?" Naomi Kenway sneered, her icy gaze sweeping over him. "What I mean is... since your injury has healed, I can just break it again."

Naomi Kenway took a few steps forward, closing the distance.

Jackson Kensington instinctively backed away, his eyes filled with terror. He wasn’t paying attention and tripped, falling to the ground in a pathetic heap.

"Dad!" Jeanette Kensington cried out.

Feeling someone behind him offering support, Jackson Kensington reflexively grabbed their hand. It wasn’t until he was being hauled up like a criminal that he realized something was wrong. He looked back and saw uniformed security officers.

"Who are you? Let me go!"

Naomi Kenway pointed at Jackson Kensington, her expression impassive. "It was him. He just verbally harassed me and was about to get violent, causing a serious disturbance. I have a recording."

As she spoke, she took out her phone, and Jackson Kensington’s curses could be heard coming from the earpiece.

Jackson Kensington’s face changed. "I didn’t! She’s exaggerating!"

Jeanette Kensington was also flustered. "Nicole, how could you do this? We were willing to let it go, so how can you be so aggressive? Dad has a weak heart. What if you scare him into having an attack?"

"He has a heart condition? I just saw a psychiatrist two days ago. Why don’t you mention that his verbal abuse could drive me to jump off a building?" Naomi Kenway retorted.

Just as Jeanette Kensington was about to say something, she saw Naomi Kenway’s slender finger pointing straight at her. "And her. She was just cursing at me, too. Take her away as well!"

In the blink of an eye, Jeanette Kensington was also being restrained. "What do you think you’re doing? Arresting us without any rhyme or reason? Aren’t you afraid I’ll file a complaint? Where’s your supervisor? Is there no justice here?"

"Who said anything about justice?" Naomi Kenway scoffed. "Didn’t you bother to find out who invested in this theater before you came?"

Jeanette Kensington looked stunned. The next moment, she saw Naomi Kenway’s back as she walked straight away.

Naomi had expected the final audition to be crowded with candidates, but that wasn’t the case. There were only about twenty people there.

Naomi Kenway found a place to sit. She hadn’t expected that the theater being used for the selection process would turn out to be one of her own properties.

"Nicole," Laura Grant said, hurrying over. "Sorry, the traffic was a bit heavy."

Whenever there was an important event, Laura Grant would always make time to accompany Naomi Kenway.

"It’s fine." Naomi Kenway scooted over, motioning for her to sit down.

"There don’t seem to be many people in the final round."

Laura Grant nodded. "A huge number of people were cut during the preliminary auditions. Rhys Quinn’s agent handled the evaluations himself, so very few made it to the finals." She patted Naomi Kenway’s shoulder. "And you happen to be one of them, which just goes to show how talented you are, Nicole. Besides, Rhys Quinn’s agent, Marcus Maverick, spoke with me. He said your look is a perfect match for the female lead in their MV."

Naomi Kenway nodded.

"Your biggest competitor is Jeanette Kensington from the same company. She’s been studying dance since she was a child and has won many awards. Plus, she debuted in a girl group, so she’s a very strong performer," she said. "Just do your best."

Naomi Kenway let out a soft laugh, a flicker of determination in her eyes. "I absolutely will not lose to her."

Laura Grant suddenly saw the same soaring spirit and confidence in Naomi Kenway that she used to have. She couldn’t help but let out a long sigh of relief. ’Perhaps the therapy sessions a few days ago worked quite well.’

Meanwhile, Jackson Kensington had followed Jeanette Kensington into the venue. They had spent a great deal of time explaining themselves and were only released after a call was made to Rhys Quinn’s assistant.

Jeanette Kensington said, "Dad, it’s okay. You should go home. Mom is still waiting for you."

Jackson Kensington shook his head. He was afraid Jeanette Kensington would be bullied by Naomi Kenway here, just like what had happened moments ago.

After a short while, a few people came over to chat with Jeanette Kensington, seemingly to ask for advice about the audition.

With a faint smile on her face, Jeanette Kensington was just as the public described her—attentive and gentle, explaining things to them in great detail. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

The candidates expressed their gratitude one after another.

Jackson Kensington watched from the side, his heart filled with pride.

Ever since she was little, Jeanette Kensington had been a smart and sensible child. Naturally gifted, she learned everything quickly and had been bringing home perfect test papers since elementary school.
