The Villain Mom Awakens — Going Viral by Parenting on a Reality Show-Chapter 190 - 200: Reverse PUA
"Mona, why haven’t you touched the food Mom made? Do you know how much effort I put into this?"
Hearing this, Chelsea Raines looked over and joined in the scolding. "Mona, do you eat like a bird? How can you eat so little? Your mom spent a long time preparing this lunch for you. This is just outrageous. You have no consideration for your mother. How could a child be so ungrateful?"
Nathan Lynch glanced at the steak swimming in a thick sauce inside the lunchbox, a flicker of disgust in his eyes.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up as he remembered what Aunt Kenway had told him.
"Mom spent such a long time preparing this. Mona can’t bear to eat it, so I should save it for Mom to eat. Mom cares so much for Mona, and Mona cares for Mom too. Mona wants to save the most delicious food for Mom. If Mom doesn’t eat it, Mona will feel really guilty and sad."
Chelsea Raines gave an awkward laugh, then said, looking relieved, "So Mona really does care about his mom. Rachel, you and your son have such a wonderful relationship. In that case, Rachel, you should eat it. It’s a sign of his love, after all. Sigh, I wonder how long it will be before our Jared is as thoughtful as Mona."
Renee Jennings’s expression was stiff. Nathan Lynch’s eyes were sincere and clear, but what she read in them was pure malice.
Renee Jennings cleared her throat, about to say something, but then she saw Nathan Lynch had already cut a piece of steak and was holding it to her lips. She had no way to refuse.
The now-cold steak was not good. A gamey taste filled her mouth, and the greasy juices almost made Renee Jennings spit it out right there.
"Is it good, Mom?"
Renee Jennings forced a smile. "It’s delicious, delicious..."
And so, as if undergoing torture, Renee Jennings finished the entire piece of steak. For the first time in her life, the thought of steak gave her chills.
Nathan Lynch watched Renee Jennings’s furrowed brow, and a wave of satisfaction washed over him. ’So I’ve come to hate my stepmom this much without even realizing it...’
Renee Jennings really couldn’t stomach the leftover milk tea, so she gave it to Jared Woods, who was sitting nearby.
Ian Shaw cleaned out his lunchbox, eating every last bite. He blinked his big eyes, as if begging for praise. "Mommy, Ian ate all his food! Aren’t I great?"
"My Ian is the best!" Naomi Kenway took out a handkerchief and wiped the corner of his mouth, her heart filled with delight.
Ian used to be a picky eater and had gotten so thin he was almost skin and bones, which made her heart ache. Thankfully, his appetite had since returned to normal.
Ian Shaw took a handkerchief from his own little backpack and gently wiped his mother’s face, his movements delicate and careful.
The mother and son looked at each other and smiled.
A horn blared again, and the tour guide’s voice followed, reminding them to keep moving.
Naomi Kenway raised her parasol again, shielding herself and Ian completely.
Renee Jennings also got up from the ground. A salty, metallic taste lingered in her mouth, and she wondered if maybe she hadn’t cooked the steak properly.
Slinging her backpack on, Renee Jennings grabbed Nathan Lynch’s hand and charged ahead. She couldn’t lose to Naomi Kenway every time.
Renee Jennings easily pulled Nathan Lynch along, leaving the other guests far behind. Just as she was reveling in her success, she heard his panting voice from behind her: "Mom, I can’t walk anymore. Let’s stop and rest for a bit."
Beads of sweat dotted his forehead, and he was clearly struggling to walk.
Renee Jennings looked at him with disapproval. "Mona, Mommy can’t just let you be lazy all the time. You’re not in great shape, so this is the perfect opportunity to build up some stamina. Mona is a good boy, isn’t he? And good boys should listen to their mothers."
Nathan Lynch looked up and retorted, "You care about me, right, Mom?"
Renee Jennings answered instinctively, "Of course. In the whole wide world, Mommy is the one who loves you the most. Everything I do is for your own good."
"Since you care about me, Mom, then we should stop and rest for a bit. Mona feels like his legs are about to fall off. You love me so much, you couldn’t bear to see me in pain, right?"
With that, Nathan Lynch found a spot to sit and sweetly beckoned for Renee Jennings to join him.
Renee Jennings’s expression turned foul, but with the cameras on them, she couldn’t let her anger show. She could only walk over stiffly.
’Nathan Lynch was actually using my own tricks against me...’
"Mona, why have you changed all of a sudden?" Her gaze was sharp. "Has someone been a bad influence on you? Tell Mommy, won’t you?"
Nathan Lynch didn’t look at her. "I just feel like Mom works so hard, so I want to take care of you, too. Just like... you take care of me."
Renee Jennings’s expression froze, and she felt utterly stifled.
[You can never get tired of seeing such a touching scene between a loving mother and her devoted son. Our Mona is such a little sweetheart. Rachel, you’re so blessed. Things will only get better and better for your family!]
[I’m not finding this heartwarming at all. In fact, it’s pretty funny.]
[Mona can finally take a break. Can Renee Jennings please stop causing so much drama?]
...
Renee Jennings was forced to sit on the ground with Nathan Lynch and rest. Watching team after team pass them, she was antsy as a cat on a hot tin roof. But Nathan Lynch just sat there in a daze, pretending not to understand a word she said, and it was driving her insane.
Naomi Kenway wasn’t moving very quickly. The weather was scorching, so to avoid heatstroke, she held her parasol and led her son forward at a steady, unhurried pace.
As she passed Renee Jennings and her son, Naomi Kenway couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. She knew her words had been effective. Mona was a very smart child who caught on quickly. He would no longer let Renee Jennings passively push him around.
’Renee Jennings built her entire brand on being the perfect mother to gain followers. And that, in turn, was the very thing that could restrain her.’
A venomous glare shot toward her. In high spirits, Naomi Kenway looked over and offered a greeting. The other woman’s lips twitched into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
Nathan Lynch happily called out, "Aunt Kenway!"
Naomi Kenway smiled and waved. Ian waved too, the mother and son perfectly in sync.
Renee Jennings watched Naomi Kenway walk away, then glanced at Nathan Lynch resting beside her. A feeling of betrayal washed over her.
Chelsea Raines was panting, struggling to walk because she’d gotten a blister on her foot. Jared Woods next to her wasn’t much better off; his eyes were slightly red, as if he’d just had a crying spell.
She was stunned when she saw Renee Jennings. "Rachel, you’re still here?"
Renee Jennings snapped, "We’re resting a little longer!"
"Well, I’ll take Jared and go on ahead then!"
Before she knew it, they had become the very last team. Renee Jennings couldn’t take it anymore and stood up to rush him. "Mona, you’ve rested enough by now, haven’t you?"
Nathan Lynch wiped the sweat from his forehead and said weakly, "I still don’t feel very well. Everyone says the children are more important than the competition. You’re willing to keep resting with me, right, Mom?"
