The Villain Mom Awakens — Going Viral by Parenting on a Reality Show-Chapter 184: That’s My Dad
When Chelsea Raines saw Margaret Jennings bring her profession into it, she quickly and awkwardly explained, "Not all hosts are like that. I tend to be blunt and speak without thinking, so please don’t take it to heart."
Margaret Jennings just smiled, not calling her out on it.
Chelsea Raines was an open book; all her thoughts were written plainly on her face. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Nina, I think you need to be a little more restrained. You can’t go too far. If you act like this, how can your real husband show his face? Are you so sure he won’t be watching our livestream?"
Renee Jennings wore an all-knowing expression.
Naomi Kenway frowned. "What do you mean? Stop speaking in riddles."
A look of apology appeared on Renee Jennings’s face. "This... this isn’t right. I don’t want people to gossip about Nina. I won’t say it. I really shouldn’t. This is a bad idea."
The livestream chat exploded, sensing that Renee Jennings was about to drop a bombshell.
Seeing her coy and deliberately pretentious act, Naomi Kenway sneered. "You’ve already come this far. It would be pointless not to finish, wouldn’t it? I’m quite curious to hear what sort of nonsense is about to come out of that mouth of yours."
Ruby Preston added, "If you have something to say, just say it. The way you’re leaving things half-said, anyone who doesn’t know better would think Nicole did something truly heinous!"
Renee Jennings faltered, not expecting Ruby Preston to be so protective of Naomi Kenway. She cleared her throat. "Nina, that man from before wasn’t your husband at all, was he? You hired him, right? Or perhaps..." Her tone shifted. "He’s your secret lover? I think that’s so unfair to your husband. No matter how unsightly he is, he’s still the one who secured so many resources for you."
Everyone around them looked stunned, because Renee Jennings’s tone was just so certain.
[What the hell? Was that guy just now someone Naomi Kenway hired to put on a show? Seriously?]
[What is Renee Jennings talking about? The guy we saw at the estate last time was the same one!]
[No wonder it felt so weird. So it was a script planned by Naomi Kenway all along. I knew something felt off. If it weren’t for Rachel, we’d probably still be in the dark. Naomi Kenway’s team is incredible, coming up with such a brilliant PR stunt!]
...
Naomi Kenway listened to Renee Jennings’s preposterous, straight-faced lies. "With a talent for spouting nonsense like that, why don’t you become a screenwriter? You say I hired that man. Where’s your proof?"
Renee Jennings said, "I’ve seen the paparazzi photos before. Your husband doesn’t look like that at all. He’s clearly... difficult to describe..."
"Paparazzi will make up anything for clicks. You’re going to slander me over a few photos?"
"The man you hired didn’t even dare to show his face. If you’ve got the guts, have him come over and take off his mask. Let him show his face so everyone can see," Renee Jennings said, pressing her.
Renee’s words finally sparked Naomi’s anger. Her eyes turned cold. "Who do you think you are to order me around? Spreading rumors with no proof. I can have my lawyer send you a letter. My husband is a private citizen. Whether or not he shows his face is our right. Since when is it any of your business?"
Renee Jennings faltered, a look of feigned apology on her face. "I was wrong. I shouldn’t have said this in front of everyone and put you on the spot. Nina, I’m sorry. I hope you’re not angry. It was inconsiderate of me."
A young, childish voice rang out, enunciating every word. "That was my daddy!"
Renee Jennings stared at Ian Shaw, stunned. In her memory, he had always been a quiet, taciturn child. But now, his round little face was full of determination, and his eyes burned with anger as he looked at her.
"You... Ian, did your mommy tell you to say that? Tell Auntie quietly, and I’ll buy you some candy, okay?"
Ian Shaw’s face filled with disgust. He stuck out his tongue. "I don’t want candy from a mean lady! The mean lady is bullying my mommy and saying bad things about her!"
Renee Jennings was so angry she could barely breathe. Every other child she met called her ’pretty auntie’; only Naomi Kenway’s child was so disobedient—just like his mother.
"Fine, Auntie shouldn’t have brought up a sore subject. If you say that’s who he is, then that’s who he is."
"But that *was* my daddy!" Ian retorted. "Do you know my daddy better than my mommy and I do, Auntie?"
Renee Jennings was speechless.
[A kid wouldn’t lie about that. That man must be Naomi Kenway’s actual husband. What on earth is Renee Jennings spouting?]
[I think Renee Jennings is just jealous, so she’s making up lies to trick everyone.]
[Ian is so different now. He’s really learned how to protect his mom. I’m crying...]
[This is hilarious. All Naomi Kenway’s husband did was show his face for a second, and it sent Renee Jennings and Chelsea Raines into a panic.]
[Stop mindlessly hating on our Rachel. What she said makes sense. If he’s really that amazing, wouldn’t Naomi Kenway be showing him off on Weibo every single day? The fact that she’s being so secretive and deliberate about it just proves it’s a script, right?]
[The Renee Jennings stan in the comment above is completely unreasonable. So, only your precious Renee Jennings is allowed to have a happy family? Anyone else must be faking it for a script? Unbelievable.]
...
The others finally came to their senses, shocked that it took a child not yet five years old to point out such a simple truth. Ruby Preston frowned and said, "Alright, Rachel. Don’t make accusations without proof. Besides, this is their private family business. It has nothing to do with us."
Margaret Jennings added, "Not everything is a scripted drama. We’ve been filming together for so many episodes; don’t we know what kind of person Nicole is by now? You shouldn’t be fooled by baseless rumors on the internet. You’re an adult. You can’t just believe any piece of gossip you see. You need to be able to tell right from wrong."
Renee Jennings was so mortified she wished she could disappear. She glanced at Chelsea Raines, who looked so defeated she could barely stand up straight, and knew she couldn’t count on her for support.
Finally, she turned a hopeful gaze toward Nathan Lynch.
’Even that little simpleton Ian Shaw could defend his mother so clearly,’ she thought. ’So what about Mona? Surely Mona can do it too...’
But Nathan Lynch seemed completely detached from the conflict, his eyes fixed on the book in his hands.
"Mona..." Renee Jennings called out to him, her voice tinged with displeasure.
Nathan Lynch’s gaze drifted up from his book. "What is it?"
’He has no intention of defending me at all...’
Hearing that he wouldn’t even call her "Mom" anymore, Renee Jennings grew even more incensed.
Nathan Lynch waited a moment for Renee Jennings to respond. When she didn’t, he simply returned to his book, his face devoid of any expression.
Renee Jennings felt a surge of anger and self-pity. After all the time she’d spent raising him, Nathan Lynch was nothing but an ungrateful brat! It was a good thing she had anticipated this and hadn’t invested too much of herself in him, otherwise she wouldn’t know where to turn to cry.
He wasn’t her own flesh and blood, after all. Nathan Lynch’s heart would always be cold.
