Chapter 163: Chapter 163: Clementine Coleman

Walter Vance looked utterly exhausted, and Jenna Shaw couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy.

"I was overthinking things, but if a situation like this comes up again, I hope you’ll take me with you."

Jenna Shaw used her phone’s screen to check her outfit, then asked excitedly, "What do you think of my clothes? My sister-in-law helped me pick them out. Don’t they look great? My sister-in-law has such good taste."

"I think it’s just average. I don’t like it. Can’t you dress a little more ladylike? I’m sick of seeing you in T-shirts and pants all the time."

"I think white dresses look best, especially the poufy ones."

"Your hair is too short. You should get extensions when you have time. Oh, and I don’t like permed or dyed hair. Black hair is the most beautiful."

...

"I understand..."

Walter Vance grunted in acknowledgment. He took a cigarette from the person beside him and stuck it in his mouth. "I’m hanging up, then. I’m a bit busy over here."

Naomi Kenway didn’t know what Jenna Shaw and Walter Vance had talked about, but she noticed Jenna’s face growing paler.

"How did it go? What did he say?"

Jenna Shaw forced a smile. "He doesn’t really like it. I’m going to go change into something else."

In the end, Naomi Kenway watched as Jenna Shaw tried on several princess dresses and bought one, looking conflicted and full of distaste.

Naomi Kenway couldn’t understand Jenna Shaw. She clearly disliked these clothes, so why did she insist on buying them?

They went to a shoe store next, where Jenna Shaw found herself staring, lost in thought, at a pair of red high heels.

Naomi Kenway noticed and asked, "Want to try them on?"

"Better not, Naomi. Walter Vance doesn’t like it when I wear high heels."

"What, is he afraid you’ll be taller than him?" Naomi Kenway was utterly disgusted by how controlling Walter Vance was. She let out a cold snort.

Jenna Shaw froze.

Naomi Kenway had already called over a sales associate. "Bag these shoes for me." She pointed to a few other pairs. "These are nice too. They’d look great on Jenna. Bag them all up for me."

After giving her instructions, Naomi Kenway handed over a black card.

Jenna Shaw linked her arm affectionately with Naomi Kenway’s. "Thank you, sister-in-law."

"It’s nothing, Jenna..." Naomi Kenway said earnestly, "Whether you’re picking clothes or choosing shoes, what matters is that you’re happy. You should be dressing to please yourself."

"But..."

Naomi Kenway sighed but decided not to say any more. Some things were best left unsaid.

The private room was a cacophony of noise, the table covered with all kinds of drinks.

After Walter Vance hung up, a woman beside him tried to snuggle closer, but he shoved her away impatiently. He took a long drag from his cigarette, feeling more and more that Jenna Shaw was overstepping her boundaries.

Someone next to him teased, "What’s wrong, Vance? Was that the missus on the phone?"

Walter Vance shot him a look. "Don’t call her that. Nothing’s set in stone yet."

The person beside him offered some advice, "You should be more careful, Vance. Jenna’s a good girl. If she leaves, it won’t be easy to win her back."

Walter Vance scoffed as if he’d just heard the funniest thing in the world. "Leave? Jenna Shaw is as clingy as they come. I can’t even get rid of her when I try. She can’t leave me. All these years, has there ever been a time she got mad and didn’t come running back to me in the end?"

The door to the private room opened, and an innocent-looking woman in a business suit walked in. It was Walter Vance’s personal secretary.

From the moment she appeared, Walter Vance’s eyes were glued to her, his gaze lingering and tender.

Crystal Bishop covered her mouth and nose. Walter Vance remembered she couldn’t stand the smell of alcohol and quickly called someone over to change rooms.

The production team for "Youth" suddenly announced they were adding a fourth female lead. Rumor had it that she had invested so much money that the producer had no choice but to give her a minor role just for the fun of it. It was also said that Ruby Preston was furious about this.

This new fourth female lead was incredibly high-profile. On her very first day, she invited all the main cast and several directors to Veridia’s most expensive hotel. She also gave every single crew member a brand-new, top-of-the-line smartphone.

As one of the main actors, Naomi Kenway was the only one on the team who didn’t receive an invitation. She didn’t mind, however, and continued to diligently study her script.

But she soon realized that this fourth female lead, Clementine Coleman, seemed to have a problem with her. She often played petty tricks on Naomi, like snatching her stool, deliberately leaving her out when milk tea was passed around, and unplugging her small portable fan a few times.

Naomi Kenway couldn’t be bothered to deal with it. Clementine Coleman was like a little kid who hadn’t grown up, and her ways of showing dislike were ridiculously childish.

Clementine Coleman finally couldn’t take it anymore. She walked up to Naomi, her high pigtails bouncing with every step.

"You... Why aren’t you angry?"

Naomi Kenway glanced at her from her lounge chair. "Care for a cup of tea?"

"I would never drink tea from a villain like you!" With that, she turned and stormed off.

Her young assistant plugged the fan back in. "I heard Clementine Coleman and Renee Jennings are pretty close. Renee has come to visit her on set many times."

Naomi Kenway thought for a moment, then nodded.

Renee Jennings came to visit the set as usual. Clementine Coleman was the person Nathaniel had repeatedly instructed her to take good care of, saying she must ensure the "young miss" had a good time.

Clementine Coleman came from the Clementine Coleman Family, one of Veridia’s most prominent families. The Lynch Family and the Clementine Coleman Family were related in some way, but the Lynches couldn’t compare to the Colemans in terms of wealth. The Clementine Coleman Family’s pharmaceutical companies and research institutes were spread across the globe.

Renee Jennings went to Clementine Coleman’s trailer to ask how her day was going.

Clementine Coleman was in the middle of eating ice cream. "It’s okay, I guess. A little boring." Then, as if she’d thought of something, her eyes lit up. "Rachel, didn’t you tell me that Naomi Kenway is a bully who throws her weight around? Well, I’ve been giving her a hard time ever since I joined the cast!"

Renee Jennings couldn’t hold back a smile. "Oh, really? How have you been giving her a hard time?"

"I deliberately didn’t invite her to dinner or give her any milk tea, I secretly unplugged her little fan, and one time she picked up an earring I dropped, and I didn’t even say thank you. I just turned and walked away!"

Clementine Coleman puffed out her chest, looking immensely proud of herself.

Renee Jennings’s brow furrowed in disbelief. "...That’s how you’ve been ’giving her a hard time’?"

"Yeah." Clementine Coleman paused mid-bite of her ice cream and began to reflect. "Was I too vicious? Rachel, you have no idea. It’s really hard to bully her."

"What’s so hard about it?"

"She’s just so beautiful. When I stare at her face, I can barely bring myself to do anything..." Clementine Coleman said with a dreamy look. She was a total sucker for a pretty face.

Renee Jennings fell silent again. After a long moment, she said, "Clementine, you can’t be fooled by Naomi Kenway’s appearance. She’s an extremely malicious person. She’s always using her family’s money to steal roles from other artists, and she oppresses and exploits her own assistant."

"Here, I’ll teach you how to deal with her."

Clementine Coleman leaned in closer.
