Chapter 153: Chapter 153: Wreaking Havoc at the Birthday Banquet (Part 2)

A moment later, the hotel manager came out, followed by a line of staff to welcome them, making a grand show of their sincerity. He stared at the butler in disbelief and hurried forward. "Butler Lewis, are you here for an inspection? Why didn’t you come in?"

Butler Lewis cleared his throat. "I heard someone booked the entire venue, and we need an invitation to get in. So, we were stopped outside."

"Who was so blind? I’ll have them all fired immediately. They have no sense at all!"

This hotel happened to be one of the Shaw Family’s businesses.

The security guards at the door panicked instantly.

"That won’t be necessary. They were just doing their jobs. There’s nothing wrong with that."

The manager nodded and bowed obsequiously. "Yes, yes, you’re absolutely right."

Butler Lewis said, "This is the Madam."

Surprise flickered across the manager’s face. He quickly led his staff in another deep bow. "Madam, you’ve come to inspect in person. Please forgive us for our poor reception."

"I’m here on business."

The manager bowed, extending a hand deferentially. "This way, please. Please, come right in."

The birthday banquet was lavishly decorated, with expensive liquors on display everywhere. On a standing sign was a sweet photo of Jackson Kensington and Lorraine Warren.

Naomi Kenway glanced at it and sneered.

As she drew closer, all the guests in the venue turned to stare at her. Her attire was so somber, it was as if she had wandered into the birthday party by mistake.

The first person to notice Naomi Kenway was Jeanette Kensington. The smile on her face froze for a moment before she quickly gathered her skirt and walked over, with Caleb Bishop following behind her.

"Nicole, what... what are you doing here...?"

Naomi Kenway’s lips curved into a smile. "It’s Lorraine Warren’s birthday. How could I not come? Look, this is my gift."

Naomi Kenway lifted the gift box in her hand—a black box with a black ribbon.

Jeanette Kensington had a vague feeling that something was wrong. She found Naomi Kenway’s presence chilling, and the color of her clothes was strange, too.

"What, am I not welcome?"

"Of course you’re welcome... It’s just, Nicole, I don’t think that outfit suits the occasion. Let me take you to change into something else!"

The moment Jeanette Kensington touched Naomi Kenway’s arm, she was thrown off. She cried out and nearly fell, but fortunately, Caleb Bishop was there to catch her.

"If you’re that frail, you should stay home. A gust of wind might blow you away," Naomi Kenway said with a laugh.

Jeanette Kensington’s face went pale. "But you... you pushed me with all your strength..." She looked at Caleb Bishop, her eyes pleading for support.

Caleb Bishop’s expression was complicated. "I saw everything, Naomi. You need to apologize to Jeanette."

Naomi Kenway merely gave him a cool glance before continuing forward.

Jeanette Kensington sobbed in Caleb Bishop’s arms. "How could she do that? That was too much..."

Jackson Kensington was mingling with guests from other families, with a gorgeously dressed Lorraine Warren on his arm. His face was beaming, and with his beloved young wife beside him, he felt that his life was finally complete.

’All the suffering in the past was worth it.’

Lorraine Warren’s face was also filled with a blissful smile. She felt so fortunate that she had always been the woman Jackson Kensington loved most.

Basking in the attention of the entire room, Lorraine Warren’s heart swelled with even greater joy. She and Jackson Kensington had been childhood sweethearts and had always been extremely close. Lorraine’s family background was not good; she had been as poor as Jackson and had worked three jobs at a time to make ends meet when she was young. Thanks to Jackson Kensington, she had successfully entered high society, transforming into the kind of wealthy wife everyone envied. The people from her village who once looked down on her now had to curry favor with her.

A few people recognized Naomi Kenway. It was common knowledge that the father and daughter had a terrible relationship:

"Isn’t that the Young Madam of the Shaw Family? What’s Naomi Kenway doing here? I thought her family’s relationship soured after Jackson Kensington’s second marriage."

"Her clothes... there’s something strange about them."

"Looks like the family has reconciled. I’d say Mr. Kensington is one lucky man. He never had to struggle much, yet he has everything so many people envy!"

"Why is she followed by so many bodyguards? Something about this whole scene feels off!"

...

*

Naomi Kenway’s expression was calm, and her every step was perfectly steady.

Lorraine Warren heard the murmuring of the crowd and followed the sound with her eyes. The next second, the hand holding her wine glass froze, and a hint of alarm appeared on her face.

"Jackson..."

Jackson Kensington looked over as well and saw Naomi Kenway immediately. "How did she get in...? I never gave her an invitation. To avoid any trouble, I didn’t even send one to the Shaw Family."

Naomi Kenway drew closer, finding their shocked and disgusted expressions amusing.

She no longer held any foolish expectations for Jackson Kensington. She had to admit, he was a completely rotten person.

Now, looking at him, the only emotions Naomi Kenway could feel were rage and hatred.

"How did you get in? Is the security really this bad now?" Jackson Kensington asked with a frown.

"Can you put away that disgraceful look on your face? Are you trying to announce our bad relationship to the whole world?" Naomi Kenway sneered.

Jackson Kensington seemed to realize the stakes. His hair was impeccably combed, the gel in it seeming to gleam under the lights. His expression softened slightly.

Lorraine Warren smiled and feigned pleasant surprise. "Nicole, your father was just too excited to see you. I never expected you to come to my birthday party. Your auntie is so happy."

As she spoke, she nudged Jackson Kensington lightly with her arm.

"Jackson, how many times have I told you? You can’t be so hot-tempered with the kids. We’re a family, so of course we’ll be seeing more of each other."

Her reminder instantly made Jackson Kensington remember that many of his businesses relied on the Shaw Family.

He forced a smile onto his face, though it looked utterly strange. "Well, since you’re here, you’re here."

Naomi Kenway took it all in, an obscure glint in her eyes. "I specially prepared a gift for Auntie Warren. I wonder if you’ll like it?"

Lorraine Warren cupped her face with her hands, putting on a flattered and surprised act. "I can’t believe Nicole even brought a gift! It’s all our butler’s fault. He failed to deliver the most important invitation. After we get home, Auntie will fire him to make it up to you, how about that?"

A genuine smile finally appeared on Jackson Kensington’s face. Pleasing Lorraine Warren was the same as pleasing him.

Naomi Kenway held out the gift box in her hands.

Lorraine Warren accepted it with a look of pleasant surprise. She didn’t know why Naomi Kenway had such a change of heart, but a gift from the Shaw Family was bound to be extraordinary. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

The moment she opened the gift box, her face turned deathly pale. She shrieked and dropped the box as if she had seen something utterly terrifying.

Naomi Kenway caught the box steadily, cradling it in her arms as if it were a great treasure. Her beautiful eyes were as sharp as ice. "If you’re going to be that reckless again, there doesn’t seem to be much use in keeping your hands."

Lorraine Warren was still trembling.
