THE USELESS PRINCE-Chapter 55: Exam Day
The following days passed by normally, without any strange events happening.
Every day was like any other day, Canis spent most of his time in the library, forcing himself to memorize all the necessary knowledge into his brain.
Meanwhile, Ash and Lucian spent all their time in the arena training together.
Thanks to that, Canis had become smarter and Ash had become a little stronger.
As for Lucian...he was already perfect, good at everything, so he didn’t improve at all.
Time passed peacefully, and soon, the exam day arrived, causing the entire academy to be in an uproar.
All the students knew that this midterm exam was extremely important, so during this time, no one dared to slack off in their studies.
***
After finishing the first subject, Math, Ash tiredly walked out of the exam room, leaning against the wall and squinting his eyes in exhaustion.
He wasn’t the only one who had such a reaction as most of the other students were feeling extremely tired from staying up all night to prepare for the midterm.
"Good work." Furina slowly approached him and threw him a bottle of mineral water.
Ash took the bottle from her, but his eyes were still glued to Furina’s face.
"What’s wrong? Is there something wrong with my face?"
"...Why don’t you look tired?"
"Why do I have to look tired?" Furina replied indifferently.
That’s understandable, after all, she was an all-round good student. She definitely didn’t need to stay up all night to study and train like Ash.
"What’s your next test?"
Ash took out a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket and looked at it.
"Um, next is Voidveil Empire History."
"Is that so? Too bad, my next subject is Literature, it looks like we won’t be taking the test in the same room."
"Looks like it..."
After standing and talking for a while longer, they finally said goodbye to each other and headed in different directions.
"Let’s see, classroom B-9 huh? Where could it be?"
***
When he arrived at the place where the Voidveil Empire History test would take place, Ash immediately saw his friend - Canis sitting at the back of the classroom, intently reading a textbook.
"Are you still studying? You’re really working hard." Ash approached him.
Canis slowly looked up at him, revealing the dark circles under his eyes.
He looked dazed and tired, like someone who hadn’t slept in years.
"Didn’t you and Lucian force me to read all the textbooks?"
"...Yeah, that’s true. But it was useful, wasn’t it?"
"Sigh, yeah, it was useful."
"See?" Ash let out a triumphant laugh.
***
Just like that, on that day, all the Year 1 students had completely passed all the theoretical exams. And needless to say, when the day ended, all of them looked like walking corpses.
Sitting in the cafeteria, Ash, Lucian, and Canis had absolutely no energy left to do anything.
Dragon Slayer held his spoon, staring at his favorite mushroom soup with no intention of eating it.
He didn’t feel hungry at all. He was already exhausted after cramming all that damn knowledge into his body.
"...So...how was everyone’s test?" Ash asked tiredly, breaking the silence.
"..." No one responded. It wasn’t that they didn’t hear Ash’s question, but rather that they had no more energy to say anything.
"...If no one answers, then that’s fine. I hope everyone has prepared well for tomorrow’s practical test."
With that, Canis immediately collapsed onto the table. He couldn’t take it anymore.
It seemed that one of Dragon Slayer’s weaknesses was studying.
***
The next morning, all the first-year students were gathered at the place where they had been during their first test when they first started attending the Academy.
They had all prepared very carefully for this especially important test.
Some people were excited to live on a deserted island and gain Experience for the next 10 days.
Some were still tired from yesterday’s theory test.
The rest were wearing determined eyes, trying to make up for yesterday’s test by getting a high score on this practical test.
"Hey Ash, good morning!" Canis’s voice suddenly rang out beside him.
Today, he looked much more cheerful and lively than yesterday. Although Ash knew that Canis was an optimistic person, he didn’t expect him to change so quickly.
Behind him was Lucian, who was holding a simple sword issued by the Academy and that was all.
"Yeah, good morning you two. How are you guys preparing?"
"Don’t worry about us Ash, we’ve prepared very carefully for today, right Lucian?" Dragon Slayer let out a triumphant smile.
Lucian, beside him, just nodded coldly.
"Okay, good to hear. Oh, and by the way, I have something to tell you guys. when we go through that gate, there’s a good chance we’ll be teleported to random locations like last time."
It wasn’t a possibility, Ash had known this from the start, but he still said so to avoid suspicion.
"So, if possible, let’s try to find the others first and we’ll go together, okay?"
"Of course!" Canis replied, his voice filled with joy.
"Whatever." Lucian was as cold as ever, but when he agreed to something, he would definitely follow through.
"Alright students, quiet down!" Albedo’s voice filled with annoyance rang out, instantly silencing the unnecessary noise.
Then, he started saying things that Ash had heard before in the game, so he didn’t need to pay any attention to them.
Instead of listening to Albedo, Ash just focused on looking at the giant gate over there, trying to remember what the terrain of the island looked like and thinking of all the ways to survive the Unholy Wraith that might appear.
As the main character, Lucian would definitely fight that Unholy Wrath to save everyone.
And since Ash wanted to increase Lucian’s trust in him, helping him fight that Abyssal Creature was almost a must.
To be honest, Ash had spent more than a month thinking of a plan to cope with that Abyssal Creature. However, all of those plans were not feasible.
Perhaps, the plan with the highest chance of success was to join forces with Canis and Lucian.
Only then could that Unholy Wraith be defeated.
As soon as Albedo’s speech ended, all the students passed through the gate one by one to arrive on that island.
It was time for the practical exam to start.
