Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Can I Not Attend No. 1 Middle School_1

Jeff Quinlan and the others had left before he let his face turn cold, and with a gloomy look in his eyes, he walked toward Nathalie Quinlan.

"Nathalie."

She was completely absorbed in the hospital’s promotional brochure, which, although filled with common medical knowledge, was unexpectedly interesting when paired with illustrations.

She looked up to see Jeff Quinlan approaching with a ferocious demeanor, raised an eyebrow, put the brochure back, slipped her hands into her pockets, and asked indifferently, "What’s up?"

Jeff Quinlan was so infuriated by her unruly attitude that his expression changed and, restraining his anger, he said, "I have something to ask you."

Before Nathalie could respond, he asked accusingly, "Are you planning to stay in McKinney for school?"

Nathalie narrowed her eyes. Her eyelids were thin and her skin was fair, making her pupils appear especially dark and shiny, giving a strong sense of oppression when she stared at someone.

Seeing her gaze made Jeff Quinlan uneasy, and he explained, "Outside Waterfront Pavilion, I heard your Mrs. Tucker saying you were going to attend McKinney No. 1 Middle School, so I wanted to ask you about it."

"Isn’t your grandfather from Hillwood County? Why have you decided to stay in McKinney for high school? The province provides educational support projects to Hillwood County every year. The local education level is fine; you don’t have to stay in McKinney for high school. As long as you work hard, Dad believes you can get into a university no matter where you are..."

Nathalie sneered in her heart.

Everyone in Zentopia knows that the best educational resources are in McKinney. Generally, McKinney’s city rankings equate to the provincial rankings, with only a few students from other cities among the top 200.

Even Kingsbury, being a second-tier city, hardly has any students who make it into the top 200 of the province.

Let alone a poverty-stricken county like Hillwood.

Jeff Quinlan sure knows how to tell blatant lies!

Just then, Nathalie’s phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID to see that it was Amadeus Yancey, probably calling her to come upstairs. She looked up to meet Jeff Quinlan’s earnest gaze and said coldly, "If there’s something you want to say, just say it. There’s no need to beat around the bush."

Going round in circles just tires everyone out!

Jeff Quinlan didn’t mince words and immediately said, "Nathalie, could you please not attend McKinney No. 1 Middle School?"

He really had the nerve to say it!

Nathalie’s icy gaze fell on him: "Why not?"

Despite finding it somewhat difficult to broach, Jeff Quinlan still spoke up, "Your sister has already secured her recommendation to National Artists University after the college entrance exams. Your presence at McKinney No. 1 Middle School could negatively affect her... Her classmates have all heard about our family’s situation and will inevitably gossip."

Ghania Quinlan had already secured a recommendation to National Artists University?

Nathalie’s lips curled with mockery, and she felt like laughing.

She knew Ghania’s academic performance. Normally, with the Quinlan Family splurging money on private tutors and her seeking out Nathalie for exam predictions, Ghania barely clung to the tail end of the top 50 in her grade. Besides McKinney’s No. 1 Middle School, there were seven or eight other high schools. With Ghania’s city rankings not very high, she couldn’t attend a prestigious school unless she took the arts students’ path!

"Dad thinks Excellence High School next door isn’t bad either. If you really want to study in McKinney, Mom, Grandma, and I have discussed it, and we are willing to pay for you to attend Excellence High School. How about that?"

Worried she wouldn’t agree and as if considering her preferences, Jeff Quinlan added, "Excellence High School is almost as good as McKinney No. 1 Middle School; both are excellent schools!"

"Excellence High School is still private and its tuition is much higher than McKinney No. 1 Middle School. I’ve heard they have better accommodation and food too. Your grandfather is still going to return to Hillwood County. Even if he pulls strings for you to study at McKinney No. 1 Middle School, they don’t have a house in McKinney and it’s not possible for them to stay and accompany you for school. If you’re going to study anyway, why not choose a school with better facilities?"
