The Undead system-Chapter 91: No escape
The sound of gunshots going off was like a never-ending siren blaring nonstop. Screams and cries echoed in the spacious building of ender’s power plant. Blood and broken objects scattered across the partly destroyed rooms. Accompanied by guttural groans and chomping sounds.
No... stay away from me. A female soldier yelled raising her assault riffle and firing off as if her life depended on it. In front was a zombie with a bashed face, limping towards her.
Bang! Bang! Bsag!
Multiple shots assaulted its body inflicting serious damage to it. Making it fall to the floor. Not caring to check if it was dead or not she took to her heels. Running as fast as she could in hopes to get away from this creature.
i-i have to get away from here. She thought running for her life. The only thought on her mind was to escape this hell depraved prison.
The elevators aren’t working so my best bet is the stairs. She thought springing forth to the closest staircase. Checking the digital gauge on her assault riffle it displayed 69. Meaning she had about 69 more shots left.
Lifting the gun up she carefully opened the door leading to the staircase. Careful not to make much sound and attract unwanted attention.
Phew... its empty. She sighed in relief seeing no zombies nearby. Slowly descending her guard was on high alert for any surprises.
Luckily this sector only has three floors and am on the second. There was hope in her eyes seeing she’d almost reached the bottom floor.
Grahh!
A low growl could be heard. Looking below her face turned pale along with the little fire of hope burning in her eyes.
No.. w-why. She stuttered tears streaming down her face seeing a horde of no less than 30 zombies below. Half on the first-floor stairs and the rest aimlessly standing at the exit to the building.
It’s no use there’s no way. A-am going to die in an abandoned zombie infested building. She cried crouching down, realization dawning on her.
Bang! The door leading to the second floor swung open with the emergence of another female soldier.
Phew. I got away. She sighed in relief quickly shutting the door, leaning on it.
Guess it paid off after-all. a lewd grin spread across her lips. Taking a deep breath, she heaved a sign of relief seeing the stairwell just in reach.
Now there’s nothing stopping me. Advancing towards the stairwell she stopped seeing her fellow comrade crouched down.
I didn’t notice her, was she there before? She was to preoccupied with escaping she had no idea there was someone on the floor. Looking at her she had her head lowered a bit, mumbling some words.
We’re doomed, doomed I tell you.
Jeez... she’s a goner. It was no doubt the brown haired lady had lost her will and she couldn’t blame her. As soldiers they endured hard tactical training but nothing as brutal as a zombie outbreak. They just weren’t prepared or trained for such circumstances.
She doesn’t seem to have been bitten. There were no visible bite marks on the latter but she couldn’t be sure. Pointing her assault gun, she carefully made her way past the female soldier crouched down.
Taking her first step down the stairs she abruptly stopped. Her face turning instantly pale staring at nothing short of a nightmare.
n-no... she stuttered her tone more like a plea of despair. Whatever fire of hope she had extinguishing into smokes.
Its pointless there’s no escaping this hellhole. Mia, the female soldier crouched down vaguely uttered.
s-shut up! Kalice angrily retorted taking aim at Mia’s head. Why don’t I kill you and keep them entertained. Yeah. that should buy me some time to slip through to the outside.
A lewd grin spread across her lips, a wild expression lingering in her eyes.
Very well, at least I’ll be free from this goddamn shit hole. Mia smiled taking kalice aback a bit.
Screw you, you’re crazy!
Oh, am I? you’re the one who wants to kill me as decoy. Even if you do manage to somehow get pass these zombies what about the ones outside. You didn’t possibly think there wouldn’t be more outside, did you?
Listening to her kalice couldn’t deny she was right. The situation inside was far worse than they had imaged so the outside would be more dire. Already loosing some of their fellow comrades lives within minutes to these savage creatures.
Fine. but what do you suggest we do? We can’t take them on like this and it’s not like we can just-
Bam!
Before she could finish her words, a bullet made its way through to her head first. Instantly killing her on the spot, her body lifelessly falling to the floor.
Grahh!!
The sound was loud gaining the attention of the flesh eaters below. Running like flies to the location of the sound.
Mh-mm... Mia softly chuckled pointing the gun to her head. Her fingers wrapped around the trigger ready to fire.
There’s no way off except death. Without a shroud of hesitation, she pulled the trigger. Ending her own life before the zombies could.
Don’t stop! Max yelled raining down a barrage of shots to some incoming zombies.
Am going to die. Shit, shit! I haven’t even gotten laid yet. Jik winced supported by Keyes and another male soldier. There were visible injuries on him but nothing too severe.
Stop whining or am going to feed you to them. Keyes retorted having enough of jiks bickering. Just like him she sustained injuries. Even having to cut off her left arm from a zombie bite, to prevent things getting worse.
I wonder how he’s calm through this chaos. She thought glancing a side glare at max still emptying bullets on the zombies. He seemed to have the most severe injuries in the group with ripped clothes and blood dying his skin. But he kept on fighting amidst the pain like everything was okay.
We must make it to the vents or we’re screwed. He ordered to which they all nodded moving as fast as they could. The male soldier and Keyes provided support eliminating any surprise zombies that popped up in front. While jik led the way through the GPS, and max entirely watching their backs.
It’s just around the corner, we should reach it- his voice ceased seeing a figure emerge from the corner.
Zombie! He shouted pointing to the creature. Not delaying Keyes and the male soldier pummeled the zombie’s body with energy bullets.
[bullet gauge: 0]
Shit, am out. She grunted exhausting her bullets. Looking ahead she could see the zombie was on the ground in its pool of blood. But for some reason she got a chilling sensation from that zombie. Having a slightly more different comparison to previous ones.
What the hell Keyes why did you stop? Jik fumed.
Idiot... don’t you think something’s not right with that zombie? It seems... different.
Who cares bitch!? Am getting out of here. Not thinking twice, the young male elite crow dashed towards the path to the vent. Taking a step past the dead zombie something strange happened.
Why did he stop? The duo wondered seeing him abruptly come to a halt. Turning their faces was filled with horror seeing his head split in two along with the rest of his body.
Thud.
h-he’s dead!
How!? There isn’t any zombie nearby?
Under their stunned gazes the once dead zombie rose. Its blank white eyes replaced with that of a darker red. Crouching down it effortlessly pulled out the man’s eye, its lips curved upwards in a sinister grin staring at the two. As it devoured the eyes without any emotion whatsoever.
Raising a finger an object flew fast towards the duo still frozen in fear. But before it reached, they were forcefully pulled down.
You’re not dying on my watch. Max smiled shifting his attention back to the zombie.
From what I can see that looks to be a mutated zombie.
Mutated? like a hybrid of some sort?
Exactly. Though am not entirely sure I can tell its intellect far exceeds the rest zombies. Max pointed out having observed the zombie.
Unlike the rest it doesn’t outright attack instead monitors its prey, while taunting them to make a mistake.
Great... that’s really comforting. Jik sarcastically spoke earning a nudge from Keyes.
But how are we going to beat it? It’s too-
Bam!
A gunshot sound went off followed by an item piercing through max left shoulder. Gritting his teeth he struggled through the pain firing off shots to the creature. But no matter how much he shot the bullets were ineffective against this zombie.
I’ll create a diversion so you two make a run for it.
What!? That’s insane max we would never leave you. Keyes debunked his plan, making a soft smile form to his lips.
I never thought someone actually cared about me. He slightly chuckled shaking his head. There’s no point in arguing, I’ve been infected.
What!? When the fuck were you going to tell us, you fucking psycho!
I wasn’t sure at first but I can feel my senses going dull. I don’t have much time left before I turn but I can buy you time to escape.
b-but..
no but’s Keyes... you’re to complete the mission and report back to base. initiate operation firewall and burn this place to hell. Bryce is still at large and am counting on to you to stop him. You’re in charge now, and that’s an order.
Wanting to utter a word she couldn’t as tears streamed down her cheeks.
As you wish. Nodding max sprang forth blazing the mutated zombie with energy bullets pushing it back. Creating just enough space for Keyes and jik to make it to the vents.
