The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 620 - 613 The Power of Knowledge
Chapter 620: Chapter 613 The Power of Knowledge
Gao Yuan stopped, standing before the kneeling person with a raised hand.
The car full of counterfeit medicine did not explode, and the kneeling person remained in that position, over forty years old, wearing glasses, his calmness a bit unnatural.
"Are you a Celestial?"
The kneeling person spoke, and Gao Yuan nodded, whispering, "Yes, I am."
"I know you don’t have time, but I’ll ask just one question! Only one question."
The kneeling person looked up at Gao Yuan. He seemed to be an intellectual, not a soldier, which made Gao Yuan somewhat surprised to see him holding a detonator.
"What exactly is The Fifth Force?"
Gao Yuan was silent for a moment, then he spoke softly, "What we’ve discovered is not five forces, but six. I can’t explain it to you in Earth’s languages, but mathematics is the universal language of the cosmos. I can give you two equations. Survive, and I’ll tell you."
After speaking, Gao Yuan continued forward, but the kneeling man turned his head to look at Gao Yuan’s back and then pleaded, "Can you tell me now?"
Gao Yuan paused slightly. He did not turn back, saying, "I can’t. If I tell you now, you must die."
Gao Yuan had seen how the Xinghe explained the six forces to the scientists and mathematicians of Shenzhou. He didn’t understand and probably would never understand till his death, but of course, he could remember two formulas that seemed very simple.
Science knows no country, but scientists have nationalities.
Gao Yuan was narrow-minded; he did not want to hand over the knowledge that kept several hundred thousand people in the two Stonegate shelters alive in exchange for a life to a Sanitation Worker’s scientist.
So Gao Yuan lied. He lied when he said he would tell the person afterward, and then he didn’t lie. He could leave the two formulas behind and then kill the scientist.
"Please tell me, I am supposed to die anyway..."
Gao Yuan looked back at the person kneeling on the ground, then he saw the detonator being picked up by Gao Yuan, while the kneeling man’s mouth and nose kept bleeding.
"I am just a scientist. My ancestors began working as Sanitation Workers. I believe in the faith of Sanitation Workers, but what I worship is knowledge, the knowledge of the Celestials..."
Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth and nose, the kneeling person tried to stand up but lacked the strength to, so he continued, "I kneel because you represent the knowledge of my faith. I am a theoretical physicist; my dream is to allow humanity to traverse the universe. I had to drink poison to prove my resolve, only with that could I gain trust and carry out this detonating task. I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die in this meaningless place, but I don’t want impostors to hurt the real Celestials, so here I am, I beg you, tell me before I die..."
Gao Yuan thought for a moment, then he walked back to the person who really looked like he was about to die, knelt down, and began to rapidly write down an equation with his finger on the ground.
Then, Gao Yuan wrote down the second line of the equation.
"Do you understand?"
The scientist shook his head somewhat blankly, murmuring, "I don’t understand. If I had time, if I could ponder it slowly, I would definitely get it, but now I have no time left."
No longer able to maintain the kneeling posture, the scientist’s body slumped, falling to the ground, his eyes still on the two equations, murmuring, "They’ve gone to the port. You need to hurry. There won’t be any more blockades ahead, but there will be Flamethrowers waiting for you at the tunnel entrance. They will be waiting for you since there was no explosion here. It’s good, I’ve found the truth I was seeking. It’s so fascinating, so wonderful, it’s good... I have so many questions to ask, how big is the universe really, does the universe have an edge, if it does..."
The scientist’s voice grew weaker and weaker until it stopped altogether, in a very short time.
Ram silently pointed the gun at the scientist, but Gao Yuan shook his head, whispering, "No need."
Gao Yuan stretched out his foot and erased the two formulas he had just written, then turned around, brandished the Modao Saber, and continued walking forward.
The expression on the scientist’s face froze; his eyes were wide open as if he were still staring at the two formulas.
Ram touched the scientist’s neck for a while, and after Gao Yuan had moved a bit further away, he shouldered his gun and followed.
As long as they raised the Celestial banner, they were sure to win the sympathy and even allegiance of some of the Sanitation Workers—that was certain.
Because it was faith that had sustained the existence of the Sanitation Workers for a thousand years, but this faith was in the Celestial. The more fanatical the Sanitation Workers were, the better it was for Gao Yuan who was disguised as a Celestial.
Ram couldn’t help but say from behind, "Hey, you’re being too careless. Don’t casually show something so important to others. You don’t know how treacherous human nature can be. It’s easy to exchange a suicide for the information you want. Although it seems unlikely this time, you should be careful of battlefield monitoring. If the formulas are captured, they’ll be leaked..."
Gao Yuan didn’t turn around; he simply whispered, "They’re fake."
Ram didn’t speak any further, just carried on with his gun at the ready.
Gao Yuan paused, then looked at Ram and said, "He said there’s no one blocking ahead, only people waiting at the passageway entrance, we can move faster."
The delay of two minutes was a valuable one, that scientist might not even know how much help his words were to Gao Yuan. He didn’t know just how crucial it was to say that they only had those with Flamethrowers waiting for Gao Yuan at the passageway entrance—otherwise, he should have said it in the beginning.
Ram pondered for a moment, then nodded and said, "Alright!"
Gao Yuan held the Modao Saber in his right hand, and with his left, he tucked Ram under his arm.
"This position... umm!"
Gao Yuan suddenly dashed out, and Ram immediately closed his eyes, clenching his teeth.
Being carried and dashing forward by Gao Yuan was not a comfortable thing at all; the great acceleration made Ram feel dizzy, and the rapidly passing corridor made his head spin, so he had no choice but to close his eyes.
It took only a minute for Gao Yuan to see the light ahead and the door that was slowly closing.
The enemy was closing the door, but to rush out with Ram would surely result in being targeted and shot at by the enemy, but if he left Ram behind, Ram would be trapped behind the door.
Still, Gao Yuan slowed down; he couldn’t just rush out with Ram. And to simply drop Ram would injure him, so slowing down was his only option.
He slowed, stopped, and placed Ram on the ground.
Ram was left on the ground, and before Gao Yuan could say a word, he sprinted with all his might toward the door about a hundred meters away.
Ram lay on the ground, shook his head, and looked toward the door which was barely open anymore, only to see a shadow flash through the light from the narrowing gap.
Before the gap in the door closed completely, a bright burst of flames shot in from the gap.
Ram felt somewhat dizzy and lightheaded; he propped himself up and got to his knees, then as he looked at the door that had completely closed, and the light of the flames spreading across the wall through the gap in the door, he slowly stood up.
The oil on the wall was still burning, and the corridor no longer had Gao Yuan in it.
