Chapter 618: Chapter 611: Seizing the Soul

Outside, the battle raged fiercely, with thousands of the Solar System’s elite soldiers still fighting desperately.

Inside, Gao Yuan and Ram had opened the core command center door of the Sanitation Worker.

Many had died, and many more were about to, but the capture of the Ark of the Covenant could allow many to withdraw from the fight.

Many had sacrificed their lives for this opportunity to breach the door, and Ram had risked everything, so Gao Yuan could not delay any longer.

Gao Yuan leaped straight into the elevator shaft.

It was pitch-dark in the elevator shaft, but as Gao Yuan heavily landed on top of the elevator car, a light shone down from above just in time.

Gao Yuan bent slightly, lifted one leg, then stamped down hard. After a clang, the not-so-sturdy maintenance hatch on top of the elevator car was kicked open, and Gao Yuan immediately jumped down through it.

Gao Yuan leaped into the elevator car, while at that very moment, the bright light was rapidly descending.

Li Jinfang was wearing gloves, so he slid down gripping the steel cable of the elevator single-handedly. His rifle-mounted powerful torch was switched on, providing illumination for Gao Yuan.

By the time Li Jinfang landed on top of the elevator car, Gao Yuan had already inserted the Modao Saber into the gap of the elevator doors. With a slight twist, he widened the gap, then, with his left hand, grabbed the doors and concealed himself behind them.

As Gao Yuan was forcefully prying the elevator doors open, the people outside had already started firing.

Bullets pierced through the doors, hitting Gao Yuan and causing sparks to fly all over the inside of the elevator car.

Gao Yuan pulled the doors open with one move and then charged out.

With this charge, it was like a dragon diving into the sea, a tiger entering the forest; nobody could stop Gao Yuan any longer.

Gao Yuan surged forward, sweeping his Modao Saber horizontally. The several people in his way were instantly cut in two, and he continued onward, slamming right into someone.

The victim’s chest collapsed as if struck by a truck. The person Gao Yuan had hit was pinned against the wall, coughing up blood profusely, and died faster than those who were cut in half.

With one slam and one swing, the saber’s gleam passed, and not one of the twelve people blocking the alleyway survived.

When Li Jinfang left the elevator, all he could see were piles of corpses.

Gao Yuan burst into a large hall, which was filled with many computers and a giant screen, similar to the command center he had seen in the Shenzhou Supreme Command, only much smaller, about four to five hundred square meters. Extending along a wide main corridor, there were many doors, some closed, some open.

There were at least a hundred people in this command room, men and women both, all of whom stood up, looking at Gao Yuan with stunned or horrified eyes.

Are there only a dozen bodyguards?

Not one person in the command room reached for a weapon. Beyond their fright and confusion was a deeper sense of abandonment and anger.

No one tried to resist, so Gao Yuan was not in a hurry to start a massacre.

Li Jinfang charged in, and upon seeing this scene, immediately yelled, "You’ve been captured, turn off the electronic jamming! Notify your troops to stop resisting immediately, hurry up!"

No one spoke or moved. Li Jinfang raised his rifle and fired a burst into the ceiling. After he finished shooting, he yelled again, "Do as I say!"

A military officer in uniform, in his forties or fifties, said calmly, "We’re unable to command the troops outside anymore, communication has been cut off; this place has been abandoned. You’re too late."

At that moment, Ailin entered the Sanitation Worker’s command center first, followed by Ram.

Ram glanced around, and with just one look, he immediately shouted, "Where is the Ark of the Covenant? Who knows?"

No one spoke. The captives responded with silence.

After waiting for three seconds and still hearing no response, Ram instantly pulled out his handgun. He aimed at one person without asking any questions and fired.

The first was a man, the second still a man, the third a woman, the fourth again a man.

Ram began shooting from the leftmost person and proceeded in sequence, killing them one by one rapidly, with headshots every time.

This was by no means a posture for interrogation, for Ram never stopped to ask questions after firing a shot.

After Ram had killed the fifth person, someone immediately yelled, "Stop! Stop! I know where the Ark of the Covenant is..."

Ram ceased fire, and the person who had spoken pointed towards the underground bunker’s passage and shouted, "The Elder Council took the Ark and ran! They’ve escaped!"

"How long?"

"Ten minutes."

"Who’s in command here?"

"The Elder Council, Larry..."

"Where does the passage lead?"

"I don’t know..."

Ram did not hesitate; as soon as the word ’don’t know’ was uttered, he immediately opened fire again.

One shot, two shots, three shots—Ram rarely executed shots in an execution style, but when he needed to, he did it better than anyone else.

"Stop! Stand down!"

People in the operations command room began to stir, not because they were slow to react, but because Ram was firing too fast.

"To the port!"

To make Ram stop, Ram wouldn’t stop; but say the answer Ram wanted, and he would cease.

Ram stopped shooting, and he barked again, "Is there anyone defending ahead?"

"Yes! About three hundred people..."

"What weapons?"

The person who had spoken earlier didn’t speak again, but another person swiftly added, "Rifles, machine guns, grenades, oh, and they’ve temporarily equipped twenty flamethrowers. I’m in charge of logistics..."

Ram asked again, "How to shut down the electronic interference."

A moment of silence fell, as no one dared to answer ’I don’t know,’ but at the same time, no one could answer Ram’s question.

So Ram lifted his gun again, and then someone immediately screamed in panic, "Only Larry can order it to be shut down. It doesn’t have to go through us."

Gao Yuan wanted an answer, not necessarily for the people here to be able to shut down the electronic interference, so he lowered his gun and asked again, "Where are the others."

"The layout here is essentially serial, with different functional spaces extending along the main passage. There are about a thousand people here. Some are in various rooms, some have fled."

Ram pointed his gun towards the widest passage and said, "This passage?"

"Yes."

Ram took a breath, looked to Gao Yuan, and said, "There’s no other way, really no other way, let’s go."

Gao Yuan nodded his head and was about to continue rushing forward, but at that moment, Ram suddenly said, "Don’t rush too fast, stay within my shooting range, I’ll take care of the flamethrowers for you."

Gao Yuan nodded again, then Ram said to Li Jinfang, "You and Tyrannosaurus stay here and clean up. When you link up with the reinforcements, then you can come after us."

Li Jinfang didn’t say anything, but Ailin, after hesitating for a moment, whispered, "Be careful."

Ram nodded his head, then he said solemnly, "All right, let’s go!"
