The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 615 - 608: Winning People’s Hearts
Chapter 615: Chapter 608: Winning People’s Hearts
When one person leads, others quickly follow—this is known as the exemplary role of leadership.
If one person displays a fearless spirit of bravery, they might inspire a group of comrades around them to fight to the death.
Conversely, if someone in a desperate situation suddenly kneels and surrenders, immediately preserving their life, then what follows is definitely a series of thuds as others quickly hit the ground in surrender.
Whether to fight or surrender often hinges on a moment’s thought, yet the vast majority of the time, those who choose to fight to the death are few and far between, while the number of those who surrender is countless. That’s human nature—it’s perfectly normal.
One person knelt before Gao Yuan, and then, noticing that those who surrendered did not die, the nearby soldiers, who had already given up resistance and sought to flee but lacked the opportunity, swiftly followed suit and knelt to the ground.
Kneeling with hands raised is indeed a universally recognized gesture.
Gao Yuan sheathed his saber, and now he needed to make a choice.
In this situation, surrounded by enemies, killing the surrendering enemies would have been the right choice. Since the enemy in front of Gao Yuan had surrendered, but there were still many others nearby, as long as the others kept firing, Gao Yuan would not be able to leave with the captives. And by letting them go, they would certainly pick up their arms again once they reached safety.
Therefore, it would have been more straightforward to kill them, but after Gao Yuan moved his saber away, he did not strike again.
The reason was simple—the man who had surrendered said he knew how to enter the bunker.
How else to describe a clever man? He knew just what to say to save his own life, and with that, he saved the lives of everyone around him, except for a few unfortunate individuals.
Gao Yuan’s choice was to grab the clever man who had knelt to surrender, then he shouted at the people around him, "Drop your weapons, don’t move!"
With just those words, Gao Yuan, holding his captive, jumped from the rooftop and within seconds, was in front of Ram.
Tossing the captive beside Ram, Gao Yuan immediately said, "He claims he knows how to get into the bunker, do we keep him?"
Now it was time for Ram’s judgment.
Ram did not hesitate; he immediately asked, "Has everyone else surrendered?"
"They all kneeled and surrendered."
After a brief pause, Ram immediately said, "Good, the enemy’s morale has collapsed. Keep him, psychological warfare!"
"What?"
Ram, from start to finish, had not looked at Gao Yuan; his gun barrel was still moving, and he was still looking for enemies. He didn’t want to waste time explaining, but the problem was that there was a lack of understanding between him and Gao Yuan.
Gao Yuan knew what it meant for the enemy’s morale to collapse, and of course, he knew what "keep him" meant, but what exactly "psychological warfare" referred to needed clarification.
Never assume you’re smart; never say "I thought" because a misunderstanding can be deadly, and it might result in many deaths.
Ram urgently said, "What does ’psychological warfare’ mean, how do we do it?"
"Keep the prisoners; we need him to guide us into the bunker, and we also need to bring the rest of the prisoners over to surround us, acting as human shields. Then have them call out that you are the true Celestial, that the Sanitation Worker has betrayed Earth and humanity, to break the enemy’s will to fight."
Ram quickly but carefully explained the meaning of psychological warfare, and Gao Yuan understood what to do without needing to be told any further.
Unfortunately, it was a true pity that Gao Yuan lacked a talent for languages. Even if he could not master all languages like Xinghe, being able to speak a few key foreign languages would be of great benefit at this time.
But now, Gao Yuan could only shout out in his slightly hesitant English, which was mostly accent-free.
However, Gao Yuan quickly found a way to overcome the language disadvantage.
Gao Yuan ran back again, back to the rooftop he had just left.
There were nine people, all kneeling on the ground, still holding their hands up, not one of them daring to flee after he left.
Without saying a word, Gao Yuan grabbed a captive and jumped to the ground, then feeling it was a waste of time, he stabbed the Modao Saber into the ground and picked up one person with each hand, bouncing back and forth four times to bring everyone down from the roof.
There was no other way, the roof was too high; throwing them down would not kill them but would leave them unable to move.
Gao Yuan’s actions gave the captives a strange sense of reassurance because it was simple: if Gao Yuan wanted to kill them, he wouldn’t have needed to exert so much effort. Since they were brought down from the roof, it meant they were not going to die.
Gao Yuan picked up the Modao Saber again, and by then, Ram and his group had already advanced to this location.
Suddenly, Gao Yuan shouted out in a high-pitched voice, making a series of unintelligible yells.
"!@#@%..."
Gao Yuan continued his strange calls, while Ram loudly chastised, "God says you people have betrayed him, betrayed humanity!"
Gao Yuan made another series of meaningless sounds, to which Ram continued, "You’ve made deals with the devil and even aim to attack your own God."
Once more, Gao Yuan shouted unintelligibly, and Ram, with an angry face, declared, "God says he is only a Celestial, not a God, but a Celestial has come to help us humans, to help humans defeat the evil Serpent People. Yet you are helping the Serpent People attack the Celestials, what on Earth are you thinking!"
The captives all looked at each other in confusion, and then, one of them finally began to speak, using the Xinghe language.
Several kneeling captives started glancing at each other, one of them repeated Ram’s words in the Xinghe language, and they all began to look utterly bewildered.
Of course, Gao Yuan couldn’t understand, he just assumed his words had been translated.
But there were those who could understand.
Like Ram.
"Don’t you get it? How could the Celestials possibly attack humans, how could they possibly release a virus to exterminate humanity? You fools!"
After a harsh scolding, Ram bellowed, "God is an Alien, the devil is also an Alien, and now the Celestials who are helping us have come to save you, yet you’re making enemies of the Celestials!"
One of the captives lowered his raised hands, looking utterly lost as he said, "But we... how do we know, how..."
Ram yelled, "Idiots! Do you know of the Ark of the Covenant and the Revelation?"
"We know, but wasn’t the Revelation stolen? The Celestials were very angry about it, which is why they wanted to exterminate humanity..."
"Idiots! Think about it, would a higher civilization that has always been watching over human civilization destroy it over just one object? If they wanted to destroy humanity, would they have waited until now? Let me tell you, by merging the Revelation with the Ark of the Covenant, you can activate the spaceship left by the Celestials, a spaceship prepared for Earthlings to resist the attack of the Serpent People. The Celestials discovered the Serpent People’s travel path two thousand years ago and left us the means to resist them. You deserve to die, can’t you use your brains a little? If you truly have faith, tell me, are the Celestials in your beliefs evil? Does the legend of the Celestials come with death and monsters? It’s the devil! The devil brings death and monsters, you damned imbeciles!"
Gao Yuan interjected in English, "There’s no time, I must retrieve the medical pod."
Gao Yuan charged out again, and watching his retreating figure, Ram shouted, "Look at him, take a good look! This is what Celestials are, respecting life and helping humanity!"
