The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 600 - 593 Beautiful Restaurant
Chapter 600: Chapter 593 Beautiful Restaurant
The Solar System Company did not change its name, so of course, the Solar System Squad would not change its name either.
Murphy was right, the name Solar System would prevent its members from shedding their identity as mercenaries, but there was no time left.
However, whether to change the name now was no longer significant because the cohesion that Ram was worried about, the target he concerned about, ceased to be a problem after his orders were given.
Participants in a suicide battle plan, if not idiots, would know what they were about to face.
Those from Shenzhou, the armored tank corps that would serve as the main force and the largest bait, were aware of their mission.
Those who came from a special forces background, who had come to the Solar System Company just for the money, also knew what they were going to confront.
But it was precisely because they knew what they were facing that they would believe in Ram, they would believe that humanity really had reached its last stand, and they would believe that they would either die or die after fighting one last time.
So many people, all of them bait for luring the enemy, the sacrificial pawns—if they weren’t willing to embrace death, then this suicide attack would not be possible.
A suicide attack, after all, is a voluntary rather than imposed sacrifice; one must willingly choose to die.
Special forces soldiers are the pampered favorites of the military, no, they should not be the cannon fodder expended under the fire of regular troops.
As the king of the special operations domain, didn’t Ram know what special forces soldiers should or shouldn’t do? He knew, he was clearer about it than anyone else.
So why would Ram still send his most elite troops to their deaths, bringing along Satan, Black Devil, Water Organization, and countless others he cherished to die?
The answer was painfully simple because conventional methods no longer stood a chance of success, whereas this suicidal tactic still held a slim hope.
The answer was just that simple.
Being willing is one thing, but wanting to die is another, so for those who knew what they were going to face, their will inevitably sank, their mood too, unavoidably hit rock bottom.
But there’s no need to worry about morale, because there’s a saying, ’Desperate troops will prevail.’ A force that knows they are going to their deaths, yet still rushes headlong without hesitation, never has to worry about morale.
Gao Yuan was inevitably affected; his heart had been heavy, very heavy these past few days.
But Gao Yuan was not afraid.
Gao Yuan had never been afraid; he did not fear death, especially after experiencing two instances of living a fate worse than death, from which he nevertheless could not die, he truly did not fear death.
It was just a certain sadness, looking around at so many people, so many living, whether familiar or strange, looking at those who would ultimately die, Gao Yuan felt sorrow for them.
There were no grand eulogies or passionate zeal, only people silently going about their work.
Each person, everyone was busily and swiftly carrying out their responsibilities, all except Gao Yuan and Xinghe, who were left with nothing to do as mascots.
Gao Yuan still had a healthy appetite, because eating was his battle preparation; he needed to continue gaining energy, sustaining his strength.
But Xinghe was different.
Xinghe’s mood was affected, which greatly diminished the allure of the delicacies for her.
"A species that is willing to die, just so its own kind can survive, should not just become extinct like this," Xinghe said sincerely as she observed the busy crowd outside from within Satan Town’s most expensive, luxurious, and only private restaurant.
Gao Yuan didn’t say anything. He used his fork to put the last small piece of steak into his mouth, and then, he pulled over a bowl of noodles, saying to Xinghe, "Stop talking, eat while it’s hot. This is the Beautiful Restaurant’s signature lobster noodles. Do you know how rare lobsters are now? Even though they’re frozen, this is also one of the last frozen batches left."
Xinghe shook her head, saying, "I can’t eat."
"What a pity, this is a high-end restaurant, really. It was the classiest restaurant before the Serpent People arrived. If it weren’t for... um, the owner would never let us eat like this."
Xinghe frowned and said, "If I can’t eat, then I can’t eat."
"It really tastes good, don’t you want to try? This might be the last chance... pah, I mean, the last lobsters. Once they’re gone, it will be hard to find more," Gao Yuan coaxed.
Just then, a middle-aged man from Shenzhou in his forties approached. Wearing a black suit, not very tall, with a slightly prominent belly, he pushed a cart in front of him, decked with steaming baskets.
"Hello, Mr. Gao, right? My name is Danny, and I’m the manager of this restaurant."
Gao Yuan put down his chopsticks, stood up, and shook hands with Danny.
Danny sized up Gao Yuan and then, with a smile, said, "Mr. Gao’s presence graces our restaurant, and we are greatly honored. Therefore, we’ve specially made some Cantonese dim sum for you. I hope you’ll enjoy trying them."
Danny began to lift the lids off the steaming baskets on the cart, smiling as he announced each name.
"Here we have rice noodle rolls—you must try them, Mr. Gao. This is shrimp dumpling, here we have beef balls, beef tripe, beef tendon, dry steamed beef, and then custard buns, molten lava buns, lotus seed paste buns, fish congee, smooth chicken congee, and preserved egg and pork congee. I apologize, but that’s all we could manage under the circumstances."
One by one, delicate and appetizing items were placed on the table, quickly filling up the large table once again.
Danny continued with a smile, "Dim sum is, of course, meant to be eaten in the morning, but Ram made a special request, saying you could really eat and instructed us to bring out all our finest dishes. That’s no problem at all; however, since he informed us too late, we had to wait until you finished your main meal before we could serve the dim sum. Please, Mr. Gao, go ahead."
Danny’s Mandarin wasn’t very good, and Gao Yuan had to listen hard, but he could understand. He replied with a smile, "Thank you, thank you, but there’s no rush. Dim sum should indeed be eaten in the morning. We can come back tomorrow morning..."
Shaking his head, Danny said with a smile, "Sorry, the restaurant has used up all its supplies and everyone is leaving, so we are closing for good starting today."
After saying this, Danny gestured, "Please, please."
Danny nodded and left with a smile, but as soon as Danny had gone, Gao Yuan noticed Xinghe staring intently at the steaming baskets on the table.
"These are the dim sum Li Yang mentioned. To find them here is really an unexpected surprise."
After speaking, Xinghe picked up a shrimp dumpling with chopsticks, her expression serious, "For Li Yang, let’s start eating."
"You’ve got an appetite now?"
Gao Yuan laughed and picked up his chopsticks, but just then, he noticed someone watching him.
It was just Gao Yuan and Xinghe dining at Beautiful Restaurant, but now, more and more people were filling the place. Some wore chef’s whites, others were dressed as waiters, but there were also those clad in tactical gear.
Gao Yuan could also hear people whispering.
"Did this guy really eat all our stock by himself?"
"Yes, I watched him finish it. He truly is an Alien!"
"Do all Aliens eat that much..."
Just then, the recently departed Danny came back, but he had changed.
Having just worn a suit, now in less than five minutes, Danny donned a full set of tactical gear and was hanging a pistol from his waist.
"What are you all doing here? Don’t you have work to do? The customer hasn’t finished yet. What are you looking at? Get back to work."
After speaking sternly, the crowd scattered, and then Danny walked back toward Gao Yuan.
Preventing Gao Yuan, who was about to rise, with a gesture, Danny said with a smile, "Sorry, the brothers got a bit excited."
Gao Yuan swallowed the food in his mouth and asked, "What is this?"
"Oh, I’m the manager of this restaurant, but I’m also the captain of the Dark Knight. That’s what my brothers on the street call me—Mr. Gao can call me Danny or Captain, whichever you prefer."
Gao Yuan expressed his surprise, "Captain?"
"Ever since I met Little Egg, I’ve had nothing but trouble. Oh, you know him—Poseidon. But if it hadn’t been for him, we wouldn’t have come here. Hmm, before the Alien arrived, he had all our brothers relocate here. Then I simply moved the restaurant, thinking I could retire and count my money, but who knew..."
Danny shrugged, a look of helplessness on his face, "After toiling a lifetime, saving up tens of millions, I thought I could live as a wealthy retiree, but then the money turned into waste paper, a complete loss. I can’t swallow this grievance without going all out against the Aliens."
While talking, Danny took the teapot from the table, felt it with his hand, and then said with a smile, "For breakfast, you’ve got to have tea, huh? This tea is cold; let me replace it for you."
