The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 425 - 418: Flanking Attack
Chapter 425: Chapter 418: Flanking Attack
There are things that must be done regardless of whether they are right or wrong.
If Li Jingang was still awake, he would have endlessly urged Gao Yuan to take Xinghe and leave first, and even Yu Shunzhou had started convincing Gao Yuan to leave by himself, let alone Li Jingang.
Yu Shunzhou did it for Gao Yuan’s sake, Li Jingang because of higher awareness, but what about Gao Yuan? While his awareness wasn’t lacking, the main thing was that he could never leave his brothers to die while he escaped; such a thing was absolutely impossible.
So when Gao Yuan jumped onto the truck carrying a flag in each hand, Sirte couldn’t help but say, "Why are you taking these flags with you? Is it just to make it easier for people to spot you?"
Gao Yuan was taken aback for a moment, but he immediately responded, "To add a sense of ceremony. If this is my last battle, then I have to let these flags fly."
Klaus said indifferently, "This mindset shows you have no confidence in the upcoming battle, that you’re going with the determination to die. That’s not good. Even if there is a chance to escape, you will give it up."
Gao Yuan thought for a while, and then he patted the roof of the cab twice.
The truck began to move, heading towards the direction from which the enemy was coming.
Gao Yuan turned and sat in the back of the truck, then smiled and said, "Not necessarily. I haven’t planned on dying in battle deliberately; that’s not my style."
Ashraf sat in the cargo bed, his gun finally slung over his back, his hand gripping an RPG-7, and he carried a special rocket ammo carrying gear on his body. Besides the rocket in the rocket launcher, he brought five additional rockets as well.
The enemy was coming fast, and so were Gao Yuan and his team; thus, it took only a few minutes, maybe just about two to three kilometers driven, before they had to disembark and immediately search for advantageous terrain.
Time was tight, but the advantageous terrain was a necessity. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
The truck stopped, and Ralph, the driver, jumped down from the cab. Carrying a sniper rifle, he looked around before immediately pointing towards a relatively sunken area with a few large trees and said, "I’m going there."
This was a rolling grassland that could hardly be considered hilly given its mild and smooth slopes. However, for those on the defensive, it was still more advantageous than completely flat ground and extremely important. On flat land, they would likely be obliterated by tanks and armored vehicles at first contact.
Ashraf stood in the cargo bed and looked around, pointing towards an area that had no large trees or shrubs, only lush grass.
Ashraf jumped off the truck and staggered slightly upon landing. Then, with the rocket launcher on his shoulder, he quickly ran towards the green grass.
Sirte and Klaus exchanged glances, then Klaus said to Gao Yuan, "Where should we go?"
Klaus was referring to a tree three to four hundred meters away. The tree was not very tall but it was very sturdy, and the terrain around it had considerable relief, making it a good ambush spot.
After speaking, Klaus pointed to the distance and said, "Your speed is your biggest advantage. I suggest you wait on the flank, and if we start exchanging fire, you can attack from the flank or even from behind."
Gao Yuan looked at the spot and said, "Okay, I’ll wait on the flank. Once the firefight starts, I’ll attack from there. You guys concentrate on dealing with the tanks and armored vehicles. I’ll handle the assault vehicles or any other vehicle."
Klaus exhaled softly and nodded to Gao Yuan, saying, "We’ve fought many unfavorable battles, but none as hopeless as this one. So, my advice to you is that if we really can’t handle the enemy, you indeed should leave alone."
Gao Yuan nodded and said, "I understand. I’m off."
He clutched the two flagpoles in his hand, jumped down from the truck, and started running towards the flank.
As Gao Yuan picked up speed, he realized that the flags did indeed impact his speed a bit, but thankfully, not by much.
While running, Gao Yuan could already see the armored vehicles not far off.
"Harry, has the enemy changed direction?"
Gao Yuan asked over the radio, and Harry Keen immediately responded, "No change; they are still heading straight for us. They have precisely locked onto our position."
"Understood. Keep a close watch on the enemy’s movements. If the enemy breaks through our lines, then withdraw immediately. Don’t try to recover the drone, understand?"
"Understood."
Gao Yuan ended the conversation, quickly rolled up the flags to prevent premature exposure, and then he dived into a dense thicket of grass.
Gao Yuan was now on the flank of the armored convoy. He took a light breath and raised his head slightly to watch the enemy’s movement.
The enemy was moving very fast, clearly surpassing the combat speed of armored vehicles and traveling at the fastest marching speed. If the enemy planned to engage in a tank battle, they would certainly not rush blindly like this.
Marching and fighting are inherently different because marching only involves driving forward, while fighting requires searching for the enemy while advancing.
The enemy was reckless, showing complete disregard for Spark Squad.
So, what is the biggest difference between traveling and combat status? If advancing with a search, the tank commander would close the hatch, only letting the driver utilize a narrow slit for vision and steering. But if in traveling mode or searching while advancing, the commander tends to stick out of the vehicle for better observation and searching for enemy traces.
Considering the enemy’s unguarded attitude and their speed, the tank drivers could not possibly rely on just a narrow vision slit to race wildly.
Gao Yuan, who had come from civilian life, really didn’t know what it was like inside a tank, but having not tasted pork didn’t mean he had never seen a pig run. After hanging out with a bunch of special forces for a long time and based on observed situations, making basic analyses was no problem for him.
Watching the enemy draw nearer, Gao Yuan suddenly thought of a possibility, so he immediately said, "This is Nemesis; hold your fire. I think I can catch the opponent off guard first."
At this point, the downside of not speaking the same language became apparent.
Ashraf had no idea what Gao Yuan was saying, nor did Sirte, but at least Sirte had Klaus to translate, while Ashraf had no one to interpret for him.
Then there were the flags which he had already rolled up; they were now somewhat cumbersome. After thinking it over, Gao Yuan reluctantly unwrapped the flags from the poles, quickly rolled them up, stuffed them in his pocket, and immediately charged towards the enemy’s convoy from the flank.
