The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 391 - 384 Dinner
Chapter 391: Chapter 384 Dinner
To find Ram, it was necessary to traverse the entire Sahara Desert, and the Sahara Desert itself would be the most challenging terrain Spark Squad had ever encountered since their deployment, without exception.
Biliya’s entire territory lay within the Sahara Desert, and after that, Gao Yuan and his team needed to cross the entire length of Biliya from north to south before they could choose from one of three routes.
One route was a straight line, passing through Biliya and Sudan, and driving straight into South Sudan, which was the shortest but had the longest desert stretch to traverse.
The western route involved exiting Biliya, heading west into Chad, and traveling south through Chad to reach the grasslands, then turning west to bypass it. The advantage of this route was the relatively higher number of small villages and desert settlements along the way, which made obtaining water much easier.
The eastern route was to leave the borders of Biliya, turn east at the northeast corner, and then head straight to the Nile River, following it south. This was the longest route, but the advantage was the presence of a continuous road along the Nile River, guaranteeing no worries about a lack of water sources.
As for which route to take, nobody knew at the moment.
Simply crossing the desert within Biliya’s borders would take several days, let alone journeying across the entire Sahara Desert.
All the vehicles were off-road vehicles suitable for desert conditions. There were a total of four, and there were also two trucks loaded with drinking water and fuel.
Nate indeed showed great sincerity, as his own fuel was very scarce, yet he still gave Gao Yuan at least one-third of his reserves. The only reason was to ensure that Gao Yuan and his team could safely make it out of the Sahara Desert.
The two trucks were Spark Squad’s lifeline because once they entered the desert, Spark Squad didn’t have the ability or the time to seek oases to replenish their water supply. They could only rely on the water and fuel carried by the trucks to cross the desert as quickly as possible.
Because of the trucks’ importance, Nate provided two of them. In the desert, if one truck broke down, the entire convoy would be stuck, but with two, there was a layer of insurance.
There were roads coming out of Sirte, although these had been covered with sand. Still, they were passable, and certainly easier than walking on loose sand.
The cars did indeed have air conditioning, which worked quite well even under the scorching sun. The four massive Nissan Y61 off-road vehicles were indeed very suitable for desert travel.
But it was tough for those on the trucks because the two trucks did not have air conditioning.
Gao Yuan’s first challenge was how to allocate the drivers for the trucks. It was comfortable inside the off-road vehicles, but it was quite the ordeal on the trucks. They couldn’t have the same people driving the trucks all the time, so the only solution was to take turns, whoever’s turn it was had to drive.
Gao Yuan and Xinghe sat in the second row of seats. Song Qian was driving, and Ashraf was in the passenger seat.
The monotony and dangers of the desert landscape had long since lost their appeal to Gao Yuan, who couldn’t wait to fly out of the great desert.
The terrain of the desert wasn’t uniform. In some places, it consisted purely of soft, extremely fine sand. Traveling in such a desert was slow, fuel-consuming, and one had to be careful not to overheat the engine.
In other areas, it couldn’t really be called a desert but rather a rock desert, where the ground was covered in small stones, making it much easier for the vehicles to travel.
Then there was the stone desert, where the surface was all rock. With all the gullies and ravines, as well as stone columns and ridges formed by wind erosion, it was impossible for vehicles to pass through.
Occasionally, there would be some sparse desert vegetation, but it was very rare.
The path they were currently treading was the relatively easier stone desert, with the ground covered in pebbles. But not far south of Gao Yuan and his team was the infamous Biliya black rock desert, a vast expanse of black stones where not a single blade of grass grew, the temperature was exceedingly high, making it an absolute no-go zone for life—a zone of death.
Nate had occupied Biliya for quite some time now, but over these years, Nate had never crossed the entirety of Biliya, for there was absolutely no need to do so. Thus, while the Angel Mercenary Corps had two members who joined the Spark Squad, they couldn’t function as guides in any sense.
Gao Yuan had grown tired of looking at the map since there were more professional individuals suited for that task, such as Li Jingang, the Egg Bomb Squad, and people from Russia and Germany.
"Captain, I suggest we take the eastern route,"
someone spoke up through the walkie-talkie. Now that they had reached the Biliya black rock desert, it was time to choose whether to take the eastern or western route. The eastern route continued eastward, while both the middle and western routes were still on the same path.
"Why?"
Li Jingang replied with a sense of resignation, "Because although Biliya is all desert, the east half is mostly stone desert. If we go west, it’s almost entirely quicksand, the kind they call a ’sea of sand.’ It’s extremely difficult to traverse quicksand. Just think about the quicksand areas we’ve passed along the way; they weren’t very large, but even so, our speed was reduced, and we frequently got stuck, which is both dangerous and time-consuming. That’s why, after discussing it with the team, we all agree that the eastern route is the better option."
"The eastern route, we must take the eastern route."
As soon as he heard that the middle and western routes were full of quicksand, Gao Yuan didn’t hesitate. He himself had once crossed deserts, but the deserts of Central Asia and the Sahara Desert were whole different stories. This was because most of the Central Asian deserts are separated by borders, while the quicksand zones in the Sahara Desert are unimaginably expansive.
Without any need for further consideration, Gao Yuan responded to Li Jingang. As a result, the lead vehicle, where Li Jingang was, would determine the direction and then take the eastern route. Gao Yuan was content to let go of the reins.
After placing the walkie-talkie in the bag behind the driver’s seat, Gao Yuan sighed deeply and said, "We’ve only traveled one-tenth of the way! Damn it!"
Song Qian also spoke up helplessly, "We just have to endure it slowly. Thankfully, we have cars with air conditioning. I don’t even want to think about it if we didn’t have vehicles. Hey, what’s that!"
Song Qian exclaimed just as Xinghe, who had been lying down, suddenly sat up. She then stretched out her hand, crying out excitedly, "Meat! Meat!"
Gao Yuan quickly moved closer to Xinghe’s side and there, he saw several camels slowly running past the right side of the convoy. freewёbnoνel.com
Gao Yuan was briefly stunned, then couldn’t help but lick his lips.
Xinghe turned her head, pointing at the camels and staring at Gao Yuan, she said loudly, "Meat! I want that meat!"
After a moment’s thought, Gao Yuan said, "That’s a camel, not just meat. It’s a single-humped camel from the Sahara Desert..."
Xinghe declared with resolve, "So... can camels be eaten? Are they tasty? How do you cook them?"
By the time Xinghe got to her questions, Gao Yuan had essentially been defeated, and he relented.
Then, the walkie-talkie sounded again, and Li Jingang spoke in a low voice, "Captain, the Russians and... the can openers are asking if we can go for it. How about it, shall we hunt down a camel for a meal?"
Gao Yuan exhaled deeply and said, "Stop the vehicles! If humans are going to be the ones who protect animals in the future, then what’s the need for courtesy now? Stop the vehicles, tonight we eat meat!"
