The Ultimate Chance-Chapter 93
Gabriel must have realized what she was doing because it took a while before he responded to her statement.
"How did you know he was interested in school?" He finally asked.
"He brought over a picture of me on campus and showed his interest in the library. Damon and I are taking him to a library today."
"That’s awesome. Would you like me to join you?" He offered.
"Yeah. I’m sure Angel would love you to." She was ready to end the call, only for him to call her out for changing the topic a moment ago.
"Vivi, I have never expected you to trust me after what I kept a secret from you. I know it’s going to take you ages. It could even take years."
"And that’s okay?" She wondered aloud. Since when was he sensible?
"I would never force you to feel or do anything you don’t. Take your time with it, okay?" He assured her.
"Thank you."
"No. Thank you for not cutting me off without giving me a chance. Heaven knew I was certain that was what was coming for me." He chuckled. "Mina’s here. Do you want her to join us to the library?"
"Of course. She is one of Angel’s closest friends and he would love her to come."
Just like that, the entire family took Angel to the library. He couldn’t understand why it was such a big deal for him to read books—something he already did on his own sometimes sometimes—but it was nice to have his friends and family around so he didn’t complain.
Damon and Avery had chosen the city library that had a humongous kids section, and they were right to think he would adore it. As soon as he saw kids his age reading fairy tales and filling coloring books, he let go of his mother’s hand and pointed over at them.
"You can go and find a book to read or someone to play with. I’ll go get your snacks." She let him go and he ran, skipping several kids until he found a little girl sitting on her own on a bench. He tapped her shoulder and smiled.
"Do you want to sit with me?" She asked, to which he nodded. "Okay. You can sit if you don’t make any noise." She moved aside to create space for him.
Avery was emotional to see her son making a new friend and so was Damon, but Gabriel chuckled.
"My nephew has good taste in girls."
"Are you out of your mind? My son is five!" Avery growled and wanted to step on his toes vengefully.
The bastard didn’t stop. "You do realize he will not be five forever, right? In only a decade, he will be fifteen and charming the heck out of teenage girls."
They all burst into laughter, except Avery who didn’t think it was funny.
"Stop it. No mother wants their child to grow so fast." Mabella warned Gabriel before he could get the beating he was asking for. "We all want our kids to remain young forever so we get to hold them for much longer, but we also want them to grow up. It’s an entire dilemma on its own."
"You can say that again." Avery admitted.
Angel read with his new friend and it soon turned into a game. A few other kids joined in and it wasn’t long before they were all brought back to Avery to be introduced to her. Despite not saying a word the entire time, his new friends didn’t seem to mind and would wait for him to communicate in his own way. One boy in particular, understood him nearly as much as his family did. This was exactly why she had brought Mabella, whom she asked after this discovery,
"Do you think we should take Angel to a school for special kids or to a regular school?"
Mabella sipped on her coffee as she studied Angel for a while longer. "A regular school is fine, as long as you inform the teachers of his situation beforehand."
As if to prove the point she was yet to say, Angel ran over to them and held Avery’s knee. "Mommy, I’m hungry."
It almost took her a whole minute to recover from the pleasant surprise. "Of course, baby. Let’s get you something to eat."
...
While they ate their lasagna, Angel’s choice, she brought up the subject. "Do you want to go to school?"
’What’s a school?’ was written all over his face when he blinked and cocked his head to the side. He wa so cute that she couldn’t help pulling him closer and kissing his cheek. Seeing his confusion from not being told what a school was despite having asked, she chuckled and explained, "It’s a place where you get to learn many new things. You will also make many friends."
She was yet to complete her explanation when he nodded excitedly.
It was expected that he would love the idea of making new friends especially after seeing him play with so happily earlier.
Damon’s smile reflected her own as he asked, "When do you want to go? If you want, we can start making arrangements for you to be enrolled as soon as possible."
Angel once again nodded and Avery could barely believe it. Her son had always been so opposed to meeting new people that he had rejected tutors. Ever since he met Damon and Mabella, however, he had been opening up more freely.
She could chalk it up to Mabella being a good psychologist who understood him but she knew that was not all. Damon’s presence also had a lot to do with the new positive changes.
She didn’t realize she was staring at him until Gabriel said something and Mina, Damon and Mabella burst into laughter.
"I heard that." She lied to make him elaborate what he had just said.
"No you didn’t. You were too engrossed in staring at your Damon to hear a word." He called her out, making her cheeks flush in embarrassment.
"Are you crazy? There’s a child at the table." She scolded him in a whisper. Luckily, said child was overjoyed after being told he could go to school, so he was munching on his food and didn’t seem to hear anything.
She caught sight of the little girl from before waving from the opposite table and used it as a chance to change the topic. "Angel, it’s your friend."
He looked up and waved back before going back to his food.
Mabella laughed. "If you keep ignoring your friends, they will not want to play with you anymore."
As if on cue, the little girl came over from her family’s table and looked up at Avery. "Angel’s mommy, can Angel come to my birthday party this weekend?" She asked, using her green eyes to plead with her.
"If Angel wants to come, he can come." She agreed, making the girl joyously skip over to Angel to ask him. When he nodded, she gave him a friendship bracelet that he had to wear to the party.
The kids were so cute, she thought, until Angel burst into tears when his friend and her family left.
Damon picked him up to wipe his tears. "It’s okay to miss her buddy. But it won’t be long before you see her again. Didn’t you see her mommy give us their address? This means as long as her parents allow it, you can visit her when you miss her."
Angel probably knew all of this because he didn’t react to his father’s words. He was just upset as he missed his friend.
"Or maybe we can ask about her school and take him there if it’s good enough." Avery suggested.
"Monarch Academy. I saw it on her bookmark earlier." Mina spoke up, clearing her throat when everyone looked at her like she was a stalker. "I swear, I wasn’t stalking. I just have a way of picking up random information that often turns out to be useful." She shrugged.
"It’s one of the things I like about you." Avery agrees and did a search about the school. Needless to say, the kids would be thrilled to learn that they were in the same school.
"This calls for a celebration. Dinner at my place this evening?" She proposed.
When no one said no to it, she happily looked up what to cook for a celebratory dinner. Unaware of the uninvited guests she would have to entertain, she parted ways with the others to meet up with Chloé.
...
"That took you long enough." Chloé smiled when she finally arrived. After coming to an agreement about her being an ambassador for the new phone model, Chloé had her photo shoot today and Avery had promised to check on her.
"My son made a friend." She bragged, and then looked Chloé up and down. "Don’t you look lovely?"
"Everyone will be charmed by me." She joked with a wink. They both laughed as Avery proceeded to check on the pictures that had just been taken. Chloé was naturally a star and she didn’t even have to try hard. Although the pictures were yet to be edited, they were the epitome of perfection.
"There’s no doubt about that." She led the latter out of the studio as she told her about the dinner this evening.
"Really? Everyone’s coming?" Chloé was excited.
"Yeah..." Avery had a feeling they were not thinking along the same wavelength.
"I can’t wait to see Mabella again." She sighed, making Avery’s eyes go wide.
That was it. This evening’s dinner was going to be entertaining.
