The Ugly Duckling Of The Tiger Tribe-Chapter 136: Beast A killed Beast B
I looked at the crowd. They’d better be keeping close watch because I’m going to show them stuff that their primal brain couldn’t hope to comprehend.
"You all better keep your ears open. I’m going to prove that my husband isn’t as cold-blooded as you think." I said and then forced myself to look down at the bodies.
The first one lay face-up, chest caved in, blood dark and still. I crouched carefully, steeling myself against the heat of fear and revulsion.
Solin crouched at the other side, her fingers hovered over the wound on the first male’s body—We’ll call him Beast A, and the other guy will be Beast B—and she examined it.
Beast A lay on his back, eyes widened as if taken unaware, and a dark, fatal hole punctured his chest. The wound was clean, precise, made in a single, deliberate strike
It was made by hand. And I could assume whose hand did it.
I forced a breath through my shaking chest and then looked at Damar’s hand.
The blood still clung to his hand, dark and thick in the creases of his knuckles.
There was no other sign of struggle on Damar—no scratches, no bruises, no indication he had fought. The evidence was obvious: he delivered one swift strike, and Beast A didn’t stand a chance.
So, he indeed killed one of them. That’s where the yes belongs.
Beside me, Solin crouched near the second body, Beast B. His neck was twisted grotesquely, bruised and battered, his arms and torso scarred from a desperate struggle.
It didn’t look like Damar did this, because if it had been Damar, he would have died in one strike and all that struggle wouldn’t have happened.
Not only that, but there was no way he would’ve struggled this much and not leave a single scratch on Damar. I mean, I know Damar is capable, but it doesn’t look like Damar did any rough or violent movements like in a fight. If not, the ground would’ve been more roughed up than it was.
Someone else killed Beast B.
So, I’ll assume Beast B died first and then Beast A...
I scanned the surrounding area. Trees bore deep scratches, gouged bark where Beast A’s body must have slammed into them during the fight.
Under Beast A’s claws, I noticed streaks of blood and dried flesh, not from Damar but from... my eyes flickered to Beast B, having the corner of his chest scratched by claws.
These two had struggled a lot... against each other, but Beast A got the upper hand and then, just like that, twisted Beast B’s neck.
But it happened after Beast B’s body had been thrown to the tree, because the distance from Beast B’s body to the tree confirmed that they had struggled a bit after he was flung to the tree.
And on the spot Beast B died, Beast A fell as well.
Which meant Damar had dealt a blow after Beast A had killed Beast B.
Solin tilted her head, eyes sharp.
The murmurs from the crowd swelled again, louder this time.
"What is she doing? Trying to save him after killing one of them?"
"Do you really think this will excuse him?"
Veyra’s voice cut sharply through the tension, a sneer in every word, "Arinya, you can try all you want, but that snake beastman killed that male. Everyone saw it. Don’t waste your breath."
My hands curled into fists. Heat surged from my chest to my head. My heart pounded like a war drum.
I turned slowly toward the crowd, and my voice dropped cold and white, silencing them immediately.
"Shut up!"
The words landed hard. Fear rippled down their spines, and even Veyra paused, surprised at the intensity behind my tone.
I returned my attention to the bodies.
"See these scratches?" Solin pointed to Beast B’s side and the tree. "He fought with someone. He struggled a lot, and the bruises are similar to the ones on Beast A," she explained, and then looked at Damar. "So, it’s safe to assume that Beast A and Beast B were fighting. It was a serious fight, not just a friendly one. And as a result of that, Beast A killed Beast B."
I’m sure her voice is loud enough for them to all hear.
"And then when all that was done, it looks like Damar finished Beast A off. Seeing there was no struggle against Damar, it looked like he was struck unaware. Or maybe, he was just too weak to fight back after his fight with Beast B."
"That’s plausible."
So, we have where the yes and no belong. He killed one beast folk, but wasn’t responsible for killing the other one.
Everything made sense now but then why...? Why did Damar intervene? He didn’t need to. He could’ve walked past and pretended not to see.
I couldn’t think of any reason why Damar would do that.
He’s not one to care for justice either, so...
I exhaled slowly, focusing on the subtle details.
I looked up at Damar, his eyes calm but alert, waiting for me to see what he wanted me to understand.
"Damar," I whispered, steadying my voice, "tell me... what happened here? What did you see?"
He didn’t flinch, didn’t shift, just let the tension hang between us for a moment. Then, finally, he spoke, voice low and steady:
"It’s just as you said. Beast B killed Beast A." He said and everyone began to murmur.
"Then, why did you... Intervene?" I asked, my heart pounding as I wondered what his answer was going to be.
"It’s because of what I heard." He said and I frowned.
"What... did you hear?" I asked, gulping and he raised his gaze, looking towards Veyra.
That alone was suspicious.
Why would he look at Veyra? Was he pointing out to something?
"What do you think you’re looking at, you evil creature?" Veyra immediately went on the defensive.
"What’s going on now?"
It sparked yet another drama and then I turned back to Damar.
"Damar, what did you hear?" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Damar took a moment and then he opened his mouth to speak, his eyes growing dark and his face contorting with rage as he recalled the exact words he had heard.
"Since I killed him, Veyra will definitely set a moment for me to spend the night with Arinya. I’m going to have my fun with her while her mates are accused of killing our tribesman. Those were the words he said, Arinya."
As he said those words, repulse filled me and my face contorted.
I immediately turned to Veyra, anger seething through me.
This witch!!!
This bitch!!!
Could she stoop any lower than she already has?
