The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife-Chapter 465 - 467. Strange Disease
Cui Zeyu’s expression was constantly changing, "Aling, let me think about this."
Duan Ling had his head lowered, his voice deep, "I know everyone thinks I’m a scumbag, even I think I’m a jerk, but Zeyu, I really want a chance to make it up to them, the mother and son." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Hearing this, Cui Zeyu sighed, "Ah, Aling, it’s not that I don’t want to help you, but this matter still depends on Pei Yinong’s attitude. If she still loved you, there might be a chance, but now she has fallen in love with someone else. Do you think you still have a chance?"
Duan Ling was silent, and after a long while, he spoke softly, "I will make her fall in love with me again."
"You should rest well first. You drank so much last night; even an iron man couldn’t handle it," Cui Zeyu said before leaving the room. His wife was making hangover soup for Duan Ling. "You take it to him."
"What should I do about Aling’s situation?" Cui Zeyu asked his wife.
"If you ask for my opinion, I would advise you not to get involved. Zeyu, emotions are ultimately a matter between two people. Outsiders meddling too much will only complicate things further. Moreover, from a woman’s perspective, I really dislike Duan Ling’s approach, even find it repulsive. But since he’s your brother, I won’t judge too much."
Cui Zeyu was not upset by his wife’s words, "Hmm, I understand, let me think about it more." Saying this, he picked up the hangover soup and took it to Duan Ling, while his wife silently sighed watching her husband’s back.
The next day, Pei Yinong was not surprised to see who appeared in her office, "Mr. Cui, are you here today to mediate again?"
Cui Zeyu smiled warmly, "Miss Pei, you are intelligent. I haven’t even spoken yet, and you already understand."
"If that’s the case, then I won’t be offering tea to Mr. Cui. You can leave now," Pei Yinong said indifferently.
Cui Zeyu was momentarily taken aback, "Miss Pei, I just got here and you’re already asking me to leave? Isn’t that inappropriate?"
"Mr. Cui, to be frank, I’m not interested in whatever you’re going to say next. If you speak, I might say something unpleasant, and that would affect our relations. So it’s better if you don’t speak at all."
Cui Zeyu stared intently at Pei Yinong, "Miss Pei, have you made up your mind to not give Duan Ling a chance?"
"Mr. Cui, I thought my stance was already clear."
"Even for the sake of the child?"
"It’s precisely for the sake of the child that I cannot be with that man. Since you’ve come here today, you must know what has happened. Let me ask you, if you were in my place, could you endure it?" Pei Yinong’s gaze turned slightly cold, and her tone became even colder.
Cui Zeyu pursed his lips, "Yes, what Duan Ling said to a five-year-old child was a bit too much, but what he said was also the truth. Even among siblings from the same parents, the love they receive from their parents isn’t necessarily the same, let alone Haohao and Jiang Chenxi who aren’t even related by blood? And, Miss Pei, as far as I know, Jiang Chenxi’s parents don’t want you to marry Jiang Chenxi. Can you guarantee that they will agree to your relationship after you’re together?"
"That’s our business and has nothing to do with you."
"Alright, let’s take a step back. Even if they agree to you being with Jiang Chenxi, what about Haohao? Could they treat Haohao as their own grandson? Haohao is a sensitive child, he will notice the difference, isn’t that a kind of harm to him?"
Pei Yinong fell silent.
"Miss Pei, I must say, you are a good mother. You’ve raised Haohao on your own and have done so well; he’s sensible and considerate, truly a good child. Given your conditions, surely many have pursued you over the years, but you have remained unmarried. I think most of the reason is because of Haohao, isn’t it?"
Pei Yinong continued to remain silent, her gaze distant.
"I didn’t come today to persuade you to get back together with Duan Ling. I know the person you love now is Jiang Chenxi. I came here today just to talk to Miss Pei about the Duan Ling I knew."
"I don’t want to listen."
"Miss Pei, please hear me out. Actually, before coming here, I asked my wife if I should come. My wife advised me not to, saying that love is a matter between two people and it’s not good for outsiders to interfere too much, but I still came."
"You have a good wife, but your wife might not necessarily have a good husband," Pei Yinong retorted coldly.
Cui Zeyu didn’t take the sarcasm to heart and simply smiled lightly, continuing, "I knew Duan Ling a long time ago. When I met him, he didn’t know you yet. In my memory, he was a sunny, confident, understanding young man, kind to everyone around him. I also attended his wedding to Gu Jiamin. At that time, I thought Gu Jiamin was the girlfriend he had loved for many years. I felt pity at heart, but later I found out that wasn’t the case."
"You might not know, although he married Gu Jiamin, they always slept separately."
"That’s because that woman was ill," Pei Yinong said coldly.
"That’s one of the reasons, but not the main one," Cui Zeyu continued. "I remember Duan Ling telling me at the time of his marriage that Gu Jiamin had only six months left. He wanted to accompany her through the last days. But later, after treatment, Gu Jiamin’s condition was controlled, and she lived a few more years, and Duan Ling stayed with her for those years. During those years, it’s better to say they were friends rather than husband and wife. After Gu Jiamin passed away, Duan Ling didn’t take off that ring just to avoid trouble."
"He once thought about coming back to you, but he felt he couldn’t face you, ashamed, and also thought you might have already found your own happiness, perhaps even married and had children."
The part about having children was true, but happiness was not necessarily so.
"I have already found the happiness I wanted. If he really cared about my well-being, he wouldn’t come to disturb me," Pei Yinong said coldly.
"Miss Pei, I’m not trying to make excuses for Duan Ling, but think about the reality. You and Duan Ling have a child together. This is an objective reality, and it means that you are bound to him for life. Alright, even if you marry Jiang Chenxi and his parents accept you, can you guarantee that Haohao is truly happy?"
"Haohao really likes Chenxi. His relationship with Chenxi is deeper than with Duan Ling," Pei Yinong stated a fact.
Cui Zeyu was momentarily speechless, internally wailing. Pei Yinong was truly a difficult woman to persuade. After all he had said, she was still unmoved, which was incredibly frustrating for Cui Zeyu.
"Mr. Cui, I understand your point. No matter what reasons Duan Ling had for leaving me and however many difficulties there were, the fact that he left me for another woman remains. Although I never regretted my initial choice, if I were given another chance, I would rather have never met him in this lifetime. Whether or not I can marry Chenxi in the future, I will not choose to be with him. That is my stance, and you can clearly tell him that." The tone of Pei Yinong was calm and composed.
Cui Zeyu silently sighed in his heart; it seemed there was really no hope for Duan Ling and Pei Yinong, "Then, Miss Pei, if Duan Ling wants to see Haohao in the future, I hope you won’t prevent them from meeting. Is that alright? Of course, I can guarantee that Duan Ling will definitely not say anything inappropriate to Haohao in the future."
"For the time being, I don’t want them to meet again," Pei Yinong stated.
Cui Zeyu stared at Pei Yinong sternly, slightly displeased, "Miss Pei, aren’t you being a bit too harsh? Haohao is, after all, Duan Ling’s own flesh and blood, and Duan Ling has the right to visitation. If you insist on not letting Duan Ling see Haohao, we’ll have to take legal action to uphold his rights."
Pei Yinong smiled faintly, spreading her hands, "As you wish, I’ll be waiting."
If it really came down to it, the Pei Family’s background was not something anyone could just manipulate; she was not afraid.
"Since that’s the case, there’s nothing more to say, Miss Pei. I’ll take my leave now," Cui Zeyu stood up, no longer intending to continue the conversation, as it was pointless.
"Take care, you’re not being seen off."
Cui Zeyu came out, his expression immediately changed, a look of dejection on his face. He pulled out his phone, which had been in his pocket, "Aling, you heard what Pei Yinong said too, there’s simply no room for negotiation in this matter. Maybe we should just let it go."
The call had been going on for a while, and the phone was getting hot. There was silence on the other end from Duan Ling.
"Aling, are you listening?" Cui Zeyu asked.
"Yeah, I’m listening." Duan Ling finally spoke, his voice unable to hide his disappointment, "Zeyu, thank you anyway."
"Brother, this is all I can do for you."
"Thank you."
Cui Zeyu hung up the phone and sat in his car, not moving for a long time. In fact, everything he had said to Pei Yinong today, especially the parts about Duan Ling’s past, he had only learned from Duan Ling last night.
Duan Ling was a person who kept his mouth shut tightly and wouldn’t talk about his private matters. Cui Zeyu wouldn’t have known about his affair with Gu Jiamin if Duan Ling hadn’t mentioned it himself.
That night, when Cui Zeyu returned home, he found out that Duan Ling had left and gone back to D country. He tried to call him, but his phone was off. He sighed, "How did things end up like this?" he complained to his wife.
His wife glanced at him, "You shouldn’t have gotten involved in the first place. With the way Duan Ling acted so ruthlessly before, if it were me, I wouldn’t forgive him either. I wouldn’t even let him know about the child. At least Pei Yinong is willing to let him see the child. I think that makes her quite magnanimous."
"Do you really think he’s scummy?"
His wife looked at him dispassionately, "Isn’t he? Or do you think what your friend did was right? Zeyu, you know me, I’m not someone who likes to talk about others behind their backs, but since you’re asking, let me ask you. If Duan Ling supposedly loves Pei Yinong so much, why did he leave her for another woman and disappear for so many years? Don’t say it was because the woman was sick and he felt sorry for her. Pity isn’t love. Just ask yourself, if it was you, would you leave me and Bai Cheng because a woman who has loved you for years fell ill and wanted you to accompany her through the last phase of her life?"
"Of course not, I have no feelings for her," Cui Zeyu replied without hesitation.
"Exactly, which means, at the bottom of it all, Duan Ling did have feelings for Gu Jiamin; otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone to such lengths." His wife concluded.
"Are you saying Duan Ling was playing both sides all those years ago?"
"Isn’t he?" his wife replied coolly.
Well, strictly speaking, that really was the case.
Thinking this way, Cui Zeyu suddenly felt that Duan Ling wasn’t worthy of sympathy anymore. How did this happen?
"I actually think Pei Yinong is quite foolish. If it were me, I would have definitely terminated the pregnancy. I wouldn’t have given birth at all. Don’t look at me like that; I’m serious."
"Wow, I’ve just realized how ruthless you can be. We are talking about a living creature here."
His wife scoffed coldly, "Ha, I’m ruthless because you don’t know the suffering of being a woman. This society claims to be gender-equal, but from ancient times to now, there has never been true equality. The moral restraints on women are far greater than those on men. Men have affairs and produce illegitimate children, maybe initially they face criticism, but it soon fades away. But what if a woman has an affair? She is tarnished for life, never able to cleanse her name, especially if it’s a case of having a child out of wedlock. Just look at Pei Yinong. What kind of reputation has she had in Beijing over these years? What do people say about her behind her back? Don’t you understand why she left Beijing to work elsewhere?"
Cui Zeyu was silent. He knew all of this, of course. Initially, he hadn’t known about the relationship between Duan Ling and Pei Yinong and had simply watched it all as an outsider. Even then, he had thought Pei Yinong was an immoral woman who had gotten pregnant by another man and given birth to a child with an unknown father.
"That’s why I say you men really aren’t anything good. You commit the mistakes and just walk away, leaving us women to bear the consequences." His wife grew more indignant on behalf of Pei Yinong, thinking her such a fool for ruining her own reputation like this, "What good man would want to marry her now? Yes, she met Jiang Chenxi, but would his family agree?"
Women, once they make a mistake, might never be able to cleanse it away for the rest of their lives.
"Honey, I am not that kind of person, you can’t condemn everyone with the same judgment," Cui Zeyu pleaded aggrievedly.
His wife scoffed coldly, "Ha, if you have the guts, then go ahead and try. If you dare to wrong me, I dare to make you wear a green hat."
Cui Zeyu’s face turned pale, yet he begged for mercy continuously, "I was wrong, I swear I’ll be loyal to you for the rest of my life. I won’t even glance at another woman."
"Just eat your food; all you ever do is talk nonsense," his wife glared at him.
Cui Zeyu chuckled, "If I didn’t talk nonsense, how could I have tricked you into marrying me?"
His wife glared at him again, but Cui Zeyu merely laughed without saying a word.

Shen Qinglan had been feeling unwell for several days. She initially thought it was just a common cold, but it persisted intermittently and she also had recurring high fevers. The doctor had changed the prescription twice, but to little effect. Even hospital checks revealed no other issues, which worried all the elders.
"Doctor Li, please check her thoroughly again; what exactly is the problem, why can’t it be detected?" Old Sir Fu was frantically worried, "If her fever continues like this, it could really damage her health."
Shen Qinglan, however, smiled, "Grandpa, it’s not as serious as you think. I’m fine."
"You say you’re fine? Look at what state you’ve become," Old Sir Fu said, worriedly. "If it’s necessary, let’s have you admitted to the hospital. I’ll arrange for specialists to consult for you. I refuse to believe that we can’t find a diagnosis in such a big city as Beijing." Old Sir Fu was genuinely anxious, as Shen Qinglan’s illness had come on strangely.
Doctor Li looked troubled, "Old Sir, I have thoroughly checked Young Mistress and it seems to be just a common cold."
"So why does this ’common cold’ keep recurring without getting better?"
Doctor Li couldn’t answer either. It baffled him too—it was only a minor cold, but it just wouldn’t go away. Had he made a wrong diagnosis? Or had Shen Qinglan contracted some new type of influenza virus?
"Grandpa, don’t worry; I’m okay. Besides feeling weak all over, I don’t have any other symptoms, right?" Shen Qinglan was surprisingly indifferent.
Old Sir Fu wasn’t comforted at all, and he turned to Doctor Li, "Doctor Li, we are going to admit her, today."
"Grandpa, it’s really not necessary."
"Qinglan, I listened to you the other day; now you need to listen to me. Let’s go to the hospital and get this sorted out," Old Sir Fu spoke decisively.
Seeing Old Sir Fu’s firm stance, Shen Qinglan had no choice but to agree obediently, and Old Sir Shen, knowing that Shen Qinglan was to be admitted, immediately called a doctor he knew.
After arriving at the hospital, Shen Qinglan was taken for examinations, but just like before, all the tests revealed nothing out of the ordinary.
"Could it be some new virus that we haven’t detected yet?" A specialist raised the same suspicion as Doctor Li, and so, after just completing the tests, Shen Qinglan was subjected to various examinations again.
Still, they came up empty-handed. Shen Qinglan was already weak from her illness and the ordeal left her even more depleted, with her face, previously flushed from the fever, turning pale.
Qinglan smiled bitterly in her heart. Besides the few times she was seriously injured, this was truly the first time she felt weak. She wouldn’t be so unlucky as to die from a mere cold, would she?
"Spit, spit, spit, what are you talking about, Qinglan? Mom won’t allow you to talk nonsense," Yun Rong panicked when she realized Qinglan had accidentally spoken her thoughts aloud.
"Mom, don’t cry, I’m fine," Qinglan reassured Yun Rong when she saw her crying.
Yun Rong wiped her face, "Mom didn’t cry, Mom is just worried about you, Qinglan. How could you suddenly become like this?" She felt guilty. When Qinglan first fell ill, she thought it was just a common cold and didn’t take it seriously. Now, seeing Qinglan lying on the hospital bed, she regretted it deeply.
"Mom, it’s just a stubborn cold. It will be better in a few days. Don’t worry so much," Qinglan comforted her.
"How can I not worry? Can a common cold really be like this?" Yun Rong was not reassured by Qinglan’s words.
"Mom, please check on Anan for me. He’s been staying at my brother’s place all this time, and I don’t know if he’s adapted well," Qinglan said, trying to divert Yun Rong’s attention to Anan.
Speaking of Anan, Qinglan truly missed her son. She thought it would only be a few days, but it ended up dragging on for more than ten days due to his recurring high fever. Qinglan didn’t dare to bring her son back home.
"You don’t need to worry about Anan, your brother will take good care of him," Yun Rong responded. Her daughter was sick, and although she adored Anan, her own daughter, whom she carried for ten months, was naturally more important to her.
"Mom, I’m a bit worried about Anan. Can you go and check on him please?" Qinglan spoke softly, her voice weak. Faced with Qinglan like this, Yun Rong couldn’t possibly refuse and immediately agreed, "Okay, Mom promises you. I’ll go see Anan later, but you must also promise Mom to cooperate with the doctor’s treatment."
"Mm, Mom, I’m tired. I’m going to sleep for a bit," Qinglan said.
"Alright, you sleep. Mom will leave after you fall asleep," Yun Rong tidied up the blanket corners for Qinglan, just like when she was a child.
Qinglan was truly exhausted and soon drifted into a deep sleep.
Yun Rong touched Qinglan’s still slightly warm forehead, tears dripping down uncontrollably. She quickly raised her hand to wipe away the tears, worried she might wake Qinglan.
The entire family, except for Shen Qian and Fu Hengyi, who hadn’t returned from the army, knew about Qinglan’s hospitalization. Her unexplainable high fever and weakness baffled all the specialists.
Shen Junyu had entrusted Anan to the care of Wen Xiyao, and he himself was constantly running to the hospital. Qinglan, seeing Junyu pacing back and forth, closed her eyes, "Brother, stop pacing, you’re making me dizzy."
Junyu immediately stopped and sat by the bed, "Alright, alright, I won’t pace anymore. Just tell me if you feel uncomfortable anywhere."
"Brother, how is Anan?" Qinglan worried about her son.
"Anan is fine, Xiyao and Aunt Liu are taking care of him. It’s you, Lanlan, just tell Hengyi now."
"Don’t say it, Brother. So many specialists are consulting for me, I believe we will find the cause soon. My illness will be cured soon, let’s not add to one more person worrying about me," Qinglan pleaded.
Junyu felt like he was going to be infuriated by his sister, "You’re like this and still worrying about whether he’d be anxious or not, Lanlan, when will you think more for yourself?"
Qinglan slightly curled her lips, though it seemed particularly laborious, "Brother."
"Fine, fine, I won’t talk anymore. Just rest, and I’ll see if those experts have figured anything out yet. It’s been so long and they still haven’t come up with anything. I wonder if they’re really trying their best."
Speaking of the experts, Shen Junyu felt furious. Shen Qinglan had been hospitalized for two days now, and they had drawn tube after tube of her blood, yet they hadn’t reached any conclusions. Shen Junyu was nearly driven mad by their incompetence.
Shen Qinglan lay in bed, feeling as if all her strength had been drained from her, her whole person feeling groggy. By the twentieth day, which was the fifth day of her hospitalization, she suddenly began to run a high fever that couldn’t be reduced. Chu Yunrong, anxious, sat at her bedside wiping away tears.
"Dean Chen, have you reached a conclusion? What exactly is wrong with my granddaughter?" Even the usually mild-tempered Old Sir Shen was getting anxious. If the fever continued like this, a perfectly healthy person would really be ruined.
Dean Chen looked troubled, "Old Sir, our experts are still researching. We are waiting for the last blood test result to come back. We suspect Miss Shen might have contracted a rare virus with symptoms similar to a common cold."
"Are you sure?" asked Old Sir Shen sternly.
Dean Chen shook his head, "We are not sure, that’s why we need the last blood test report to confirm our suspicions. If it really is a new type of virus, Miss Shen’s condition might be quite problematic."
Old Sir Shen’s face looked very grim. After a long while, he finally spoke, "I’m asking you, Dean Chen, and all the experts to do your utmost to save my granddaughter."
"Of course."
**
In her groggy state, Shen Qinglan felt a familiar presence. She opened her eyes and saw Fu Hengyi. She blinked and whispered, "Fu Hengyi, I think I see you. I must be delirious from the fever."
She closed her eyes, intending to continue sleeping, when suddenly a hand appeared, gently stroking her face, "Silly girl, I’m back."
Shen Qinglan’s eyes snapped open and she stared blankly at Fu Hengyi for a long while, speechless. Fu Hengyi smiled, his eyes filled with heartache, "Are you lost in thought?"
Shen Qinglan’s voice was hoarse as she spoke, "Fu Hengyi, how did you come back?"
Fu Hengyi continued, softening the moment, "I came back because I missed you." Actually, he had been trying to call Shen Qinglan for the past two days without getting through. When he called home, Aunt Zhao was hesitating in her speech, which made Fu Hengyi suspicious. He was supposed to return home the next day but rushed back immediately that night, only to find out upon arriving home that Shen Qinglan had been ill for so long, and then he immediately hurried to the hospital.
Seeing Shen Qinglan, Fu Hengyi almost burst into tears. Before he left, Shen Qinglan was still that graceful and serene woman. Just a month apart, his wife lying on the hospital bed had become terribly thin, her face pale, her lips covered in dead skin, her eye sockets sunken, and even in sleep, her brows furrowed tightly.
Shen Qinglan tried to sit up, but Fu Hengyi held her back, "Tell me what you need."
"I want to sit up. Lying down for so long is exhausting."
Fu Hengyi helped her up to lean against his chest. He was still in his military uniform, not having had the chance to change clothes. "Why didn’t you tell me you were sick?" His voice was gentle, careful not to startle Shen Qinglan.
Shen Qinglan lightly curled her lips, "I didn’t want you to worry, and it’s just a minor cold. The doctor said I would recover very quickly."
Fu Hengyi held her tightly, "Qinglan, I’ve already asked the doctor." He had spoken to the attending doctor while Shen Qinglan was asleep and learned that she was suspected of being infected with an unknown virus, which made his heart plummet.
Shen Qinglan was silent for a while before she took Fu Hengyi’s hand, "Fu Hengyi, I missed you."
Fu Hengyi sighed softly, "We’ll settle this score after you recover." Even in such a state, she was still trying to change the subject.
Shen Qinglan struggled to stay awake, but her mind grew increasingly groggy, and gradually she closed her eyes, "Hengyi, I’m a bit tired, I want to sleep a bit more."
"Okay, sleep. I’ll be right here watching over you, I won’t go anywhere," Hengyi said tenderly, squeezing together with Shen Qinglan on the hospital bed, listening to her breathing through the night without sleep.
The next morning early, Hengyi went to Dean Chen’s office, "Dean Chen, have the results of the last blood sample come out?"
"They have come out."
"What exactly is my wife suffering from?"
Dean Chen hemmed and hawed, and Hengyi frowned, "Please tell me the truth."
"Commander Fu, we haven’t found any issues in the last blood sample," Dean Chen said.
Hengyi’s eyes changed unpredictably, Dean Chen felt uneasy inside, having conducted one test after another, almost exhausting all possible tests, but still no results had emerged, and expressing this made them feel ashamed themselves.
"Is there no other option?" Hengyi asked gravely.
Dean Chen lowered his head, his face full of shame, "Commander Fu, I am very sorry." The condition had reached such a state today that even they could no longer claim that Shen Qinglan was just suffering from a common cold; even a blind man could see that Shen Qinglan’s health issue was very unusual.
Seeing that Dean Chen truly had no other alternatives, Hengyi started making phone calls to request other specialists to come for a consultation.
"Mrs. Fu, could you recall on your own if, during this time, you have come into contact with any strange objects or captured any creatures?" asked the specialist who Hengyi had called in.
Shen Qinglan leaned in Hengyi’s embrace, her lips devoid of any color of blood, yet her face was flushed from fever, "No." She had mostly stayed at home during this period and hadn’t gone anywhere.
"Think about it again, maybe further back? We suspect you might have been infected by a very rare virus, the incubation periods differ for different viruses. Think about whether you’ve come in contact with anything unusual in the past six months?"
Shen Qinglan still shook her head. "Doctor, really, there’s nothing."
The specialist frowned, as it would be difficult if this was the case. Could it be a virus that originated within her? But that seemed unlikely. The specialist was completely baffled.
However, Hengyi had recalled something and whispered a few words into Shen Qinglan’s ear, causing her to frown. Could it be possible?
"Mrs. Fu, did you remember something?" the specialist noticed the change in Shen Qinglan’s expression and asked.
"A few months ago, I was bitten by a snake in the wild, but I had checked at the time, and that snake was not venomous."
"Do you still remember what that snake looked like?"
Shen Qinglan described to the specialist what the snake she encountered looked like when she had been escaping through the jungle to save Ya Xi. The specialist, after listening, frowned, "Indeed, this type of snake is non-venomous and shouldn’t have affected your health according to usual circumstances, but nothing is absolute. I’ll start by researching in this direction."
There are millions of viruses in this world, although previously Shen Qinglan had undergone many tests, without a clear direction, even tests may not reveal which virus it was.
The specialist took another blood sample from Shen Qinglan, "Mrs. Fu, since we don’t yet have a clear diagnosis, we dare not administer medication recklessly. We can only start by treating the fever, and if you experience any other discomfort you must inform us immediately."
Qinglan nodded and, after the expert left, she looked at Fu Hengyi and asked softly, "Fu Hengyi, do you think I can really not get through this?"
Fu Hengyi frowned, "Don’t talk nonsense. With today’s advanced medical technology, you’ll definitely be fine."
"Fu Hengyi, I miss Anan." It had been almost twenty days since she last saw her son.
"I’ll go and bring him here," Fu Hengyi said.
Qinglan shook her head, "Better not, my illness hasn’t been identified yet, who knows what unknown things might be lurking, I’m already like this, I don’t want to put Anan at risk."
"Okay, then I’ll have Jun Yu send you some pictures of Anan, or maybe a video."
"No video, I must look terrifying right now, I don’t want to scare Anan," Qinglan refused.
"Okay, then I’ll have Jun Yu send some pictures of Anan over," Fu Hengyi said, and then he called Shen Junyu. Shen Junyu was at home contacting other experts, ready to spare no expense to cure Qinglan’s illness.
Shen Junyu straight away sent a video over. In the video, Anan was bawling, looking for his mommy. Er Pang was following him around, howling too, his face covered in tears, clearly very upset.
Qinglan held her phone, her eyes glistening, "Fu Hengyi, I miss Anan."
Fu Hengyi hugged her tight, "Yes, I know. How about I go check on him for you after a while?"
"Don’t wait; just go now, tell Anan I miss him a lot too," Qinglan urged Fu Hengyi.
"I’ll wait for you to fall asleep tonight before going," Fu Hengyi said softly.
"Just go now, I’m fine here, there are so many doctors here," Qinglan’s voice was filled with weakness and vulnerability, and Fu Hengyi couldn’t refuse. He had no choice but to stand up, "Okay, I’ll go now."
Qinglan leaned against the head of the bed, holding her phone, listening to Anan repeatedly calling for his mommy. She thought she wasn’t a good mother; from the time Anan was born until now, she actually hadn’t spent much time with him, often leaving him alone to go out.
If she really couldn’t conquer this illness, what would become of her son? He was still so small; would he be sad if he lost his mommy?
When Fu Hengyi arrived at Shen Junyu’s house, Wen Xiyao had already calmed Anan down, but Anan’s mood was low. For the first two days, he was quite happy, staying at his uncle’s house, playing with Er Pang, but a week later, he began feeling anxious, wanting to see Qinglan. Shen Junyu would use Qinglan’s pictures to soothe him, but this method wasn’t very effective. These past two days, even seeing Qinglan’s pictures, Anan still wanted his mommy.
The Shen family and the Fu family were already in disarray because of Qinglan’s illness. Shen Junyu couldn’t impose on them to look after Anan; it had to be Wen Xiyao, while he himself was making efforts to contact top doctors nationwide, sparing no expense to have them come and treat Qinglan.
Upon seeing his daddy, Anan’s emotions completely broke down, and he started sobbing while hugging Fu Hengyi. Fu Hengyi gently soothed his son, "Don’t cry, daddy is here. I’ll take you to see mommy now, be good, no more crying."
Once Anan had quieted down, Fu Hengyi looked towards Shen Junyu, "How is it going?
"I’ve called every renowned doctor I know, but they aren’t specialists in this area, I’m not fully confident."
"Have you asked Doctor Eden? He cured Hengyi’s severe leg injury before, perhaps he might have a solution?" Wen Xiyao suddenly spoke.
