Chapter 825: Chapter 825: You Can Barely Get Up Now, Wait Until You Have Strength to Leave

An unfamiliar place, dim surroundings, and silent beyond a trace of sound.

Delphine opened her eyes, trying to see where she was. Just the movement of her eyelids caused her eyes to burn painfully; she didn’t know how long she had cried last night. The man who used to care for her seemed to have become a different person.

The door was pushed open, and the man turned on a soft light, making the room a bit brighter.

Ignatius Leclair approached silently, seeing she was awake, he reached out, bending down to check her injuries. Her skin was so delicate and pale that even with ointment applied, the sight was still shocking.

Ignatius hooked up the slipped strap of her nightgown, Delphine’s body trembled, wanting to push his hand away, but her hand fell weakly. In fact, her whole body felt limp with not a whisper of strength, a kind of weakness emanating from her very bones. She doubted she could even make it to the door.

The man stared fixedly at her small, colorless face, his phoenix eyes growing dim. He held her in his arms, wrapping a hot egg in fine gauze, applying it warmly around her eyes.

She had cried so bitterly, her eyes were swollen like two walnuts.

Delphine could not avoid it, so she simply closed her eyes to avoid looking at him. There really was nothing more to say between them.

Ignatius carefully continued to apply the warm compress to her eyes, returning to his usual reticent and taciturn demeanor. After finishing the heating process, he took a light green ointment from the bedside table, wanting to take off her nightgown to apply medicine to her wounds.

"Go away." She waved her hand, knocking the ointment aside, and defensively shrank to the other side, her pale lips and swollen eyes making her eyes even larger, dark and clear, full of tears, eliciting an urge to crush them, tuck them into one’s chest, and merge into one.

The man gracefully bent down, picked up the ointment from the floor, and said in a low, hoarse voice, "Without applying the medicine, it will hurt."

Delphine let out a cold laugh. A wolf in sheep’s clothing, pretending at a time like this.

"I want to go back." She pressed her hands down, trying to sit up, but fell back feebly into the blanket.

The man’s eyes flickered with a hint of darkness, and he said in a low voice, "It’s hard for you to get up now, wait until you have strength before you go."

Delphine did not think too much, she lay in the soft, feather-like blanket, not only was her whole body devoid of strength, but even her eyelids felt heavy as sleepiness swept over her.

Ignatius saw that she had struggled for a moment and had tired herself to sleep, so he gently lifted her out of the blanket, his long, strong fingers untying the fine silk robe’s straps. Using the pads of his fingers, he dabbed the light green ointment, softly and carefully applying it bit by bit, his gaze deep and intense as ink.

After everything, he leaned in to kiss her somewhat pale, thin lips, kissing them until they turned rosy red before pulling back, tucking her in, and leaving.

Ignatius exited the room, instructing the servants to take good care of her, then glanced at the returning Arthur White, signaling him to enter the study. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"Young Master Howard was called back to the Imperial City by the old lady, the young master and young miss are at the Leclair residence, Mrs. Li has already gone to take care of them." Arthur White followed Ignatius Leclair’s stride, reporting methodically.

Major General Leclair sent the eldest Howard son packing back home, and sent the two children to the Leclair residence for the old master to care for, evidently intending to take a period to wash his hands off things and enjoy a private world with Miss Delphine.

But just thinking about the way Major General Leclair had held Miss Delphine when he brought her to this hidden estate made Arthur White’s scalp tingle involuntarily, was Major General Leclair’s condition worsening?
